*WORLD TEACHERS DAY: DR FAVOUR UGWUANYI LEADS JUBILANT TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS ON SPECIAL THANK YOU VISIT TO GOVT HOUSE*

All over the globe, the 5th day of October is celebrated yearly as the world's teachers day to mark the sacrifices of teachers in helping to build a better society.

It is an undisputed fact that the human mind works like a parachute. A parachute saves lives when it is opened. Education is the only key that opens the human mind to a vast world of possibilities.

Interestingly, education is a key in poverty reduction as people with higher education have higher opportunities to gain higher incomes

It is a sad reality that Illiteracy is not just a disease but a tool for creating dysfunctional society populated by men and women who are driven by myths not facts as such serve as cannon fodders for extremists.

Recall that Enugu State had broken the national record in WAEC exams in 2021 and also a new record for the overall best performing student in 2022. This is a feat that has never been achieved for decades.

As farmers attest to quality soil nutrients, improved seedlings, artificial irrigation and weed/pest control as responsible for bumper harvest, so do experts in education attribute quality of investment in teachers training and remuneration, conducive teaching and learning environment and quality instructional aids as requirements for achieving excellent academic records.

The teachers, Principals of government secondary schools and Heads of Departments of Post Primary School Management Board and Board Members, visited the government house on a thank you visit on 6th October, 2022. They were led by a seasoned teacher and experienced administrator of repute with many accolades and academic laurels , Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM,.
Dr. Favour started her career as a teacher and rose to the position of a permanent secretary and retired with honors as a senior citizen before her appointment as Chairman of PPSMB.

The special thank you visit to Government House , Enugu was to eulogize the achievements of the education friendly governor in education sector. Without embellishments, they presented detailed, verifiable facts as scorecard of the Governor and also Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi, the performing Chairman of PPSMB.

In an emotion laden speeches, the chairman of Enugu state chapter of Association of Nigeria Conference of Principals of Schools (ANCOPS), Mr Robert Okolie and the Head of Department of Central Registry,PPSMB , Mrs Joy Agbara made the following statements:

1. Thank you Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for prioritizing investment in public secondary schools through renovation and construction of over 260 schools, provision of modern instructional aids, laboratory equipment for science education, provision of ICT equipment for students, provision of e-library which made students ICT compliant and contributed to success in WAEC, NECO and JAMB.

2. Teacher performance enhancement by Conversion of over 1000 temporary teachers to permanent teachers.

3. Motivation of teachers through prompt and full payment of salaries and payments of years of promotion arrears inherited by your tenure, even as many states owe salaries across Nigeria.

3. Quality leadership training of teachers by
the revered NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF POLICY AND STRATEGIC STUDIES.

4. New partnership with Nigeria Security and Civil defense corps to provide security to teachers and students and valuable, sensitive equipment

The Chief Supervising Principal (CSP), Mr Christopher Ekwunife said the teachers have never had it this good in Enugu state since its creation. The coordinators, Teachers for Good Governance (TGG), Mrs Ify Dunu & Mrs Chinedu Eze, spoke authoritatively with joy saying, TGG has 9000 teachers and over 5,000 non teaching staff who have valid voters cards and have minimum of 1:5 persons influence ratio in the six educational zones. The teachers for good governance (TGG) said to the governor, " *WE WILL REWARD YOU WITH VOTES IN 2023 TO HELP IMPROVE EDUCATION POLICIES IN NIGERIA* *THROUGH THE* *SENATE".* They said we will also reward your party the PDP for restoring the dignity of teachers in Enugu through your many welfare packages. They said before the advent of Gov.Ugwuanyi, teachers were looked down on but now they are highly respected.

Dr. Mrs Favour Ugwuanyi, mni FCISM, the Chairman of PPSMB thanked the Governor immensely for her appointment as chairman and appointments of seasoned technocrats and education experts as board members of PPSMB

She also thanked the Governor for the enormous support given to PPSMB that led to the record breaking performance in 2021 and 2022. She promised the Governor that the target of PPSMB is to emerge as overall best in West Africa in WAEC results of 2023

She joyously paraded the Principals as best teachers in Nigeria and healthy men and women due to job satisfaction from remuneration and prompt salaries. She also thanked the Governor for approvals given for the SKILLFEST initiative which has graduated many teenagers on various skills in fashion and design, confectionery, metal works, furniture making, photography, ICT etc She also said that teacher absenteeism has been eliminated through regular supervision exercises .

Dr. Mrs Favour Ugwuanyi is set to roll out the SPECIAL GIFTED TEENS PROGRAM to help discover and reward the best brains in sciences and other subjects to promote teenage academic competition in Enugu to meet international standards.

The new secondary school parliament and schools debates will be held at the new, magnificent Governor Ugwuanyi conference hall, built by Dr
Mrs Favour Ugwuanyi.

His Lordship, Bishop Chinedu was at the event to say prayers of Thanksgiving for the sacrifices of teachers to Enugu.

MONITORING OF SCHOOLS

REPORT ANY TEACHER THAT FAILS TO TEACH : PPSMB CHAIRMAN TO STUDENTS.

The Executive Chairman of Post Primary Schools Management Board PPSMB, Enugu, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, continues her spot check and monitoring of Schools with Member 1, Hon. John Ugochukwu Eneze, Permanent Secretary of the Board, Engr. Remi Eze, Director of finance & Accounts, Mr Bona Odenigbo and other Directors from Schools Supervision Department.

Dr. Ugwuanyi, while addressing the teachers in the school, told them that the present board has come to re-write every wrong in the system. She said that the era when someone will be vice-principal for six to seven years, while a teacher that just turned level 16 in less than three months and be made a principal has gone. She therefore encouraged the teachers to sit-up in their respective classes as the 13th commandment of the Board must be obeyed.

Jubilant Principals and teachers of secondary schools in Enugu State, under the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), yesterday, converged on the Government House, Enugu, in their numbers to celebrate and appreciate Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the exceptional attention his administration has paid to their wellbeing and the education sector.

They stressed that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration has been regular in the payment of their salaries unlike some states in the country, and has carried out various sterling reforms in the education sector that have repositioned the sector and earned Enugu State laurels in the country and beyond.

The teachers said that they are delighted at the governor’s remarkable achievements in the education sector and other sectors across the state notwithstanding the state’s lean resources and the challenges bedeviling the country since he assumed office.

They, therefore, passed a vote of confidence in Gov. Ugwuanyi and assured him of their unalloyed support and votes at the poll to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Led by the new Chairman of the PPSMB, Dr. Mrs. Favour Ugwuanyi, the principals and teachers told the governor that they are solidly behind the choice of Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general election.

They assured him that they will also vote for Barr. Mbah, his running mate, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai and all other PDP candidates in the state.

Appreciating Gov. Ugwuanyi for reconstituting the PPSMB and bringing in intellectuals with proven track records, the principals and teachers disclosed that their positive impact is already being witnessed in the state’s education sector.

Speaking, the Chairman, Enugu State Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Schools (ANCOPS), Mr. Robert Okolie, maintained that the recent ranking of Enugu State as first among public secondary schools in Nigeria that presented candidates for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination in 2021 was as a result of Gov. Ugwuanyi administration’s investment in the education sector.

The ANCOPS chairman thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for his commitment to quality education and the teachers’ wellbeing, saying: “We wish you good luck. We are assuring you that all the candidates of the PDP are winners already. They should go and prepare for their electoral victory celebrations”.

Describing Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration as an “education-friendly administration,” the PPSMB Head of Department (HOD), Central Registry, Mrs. Joy Agbara, stated that the governor’s good works in the education sector are enormous, pointing out that they include conversion of 1,000 volunteer teachers to permanent staff, payment of inherited promotion arrears, recruitment of 1,000 teachers, renovation and construction of classroom blocks, provision of modern learning tools, such as computers, laboratory equipment as well as instructional materials, among others.

Speaking further, she said: “Your Excellency, we have never had it this good. That is part of the secret of what you are seeing today. If you look at our schools, there was a time that if you entered our schools, the environment was nothing to write home about but now the environment is friendly for teaching and learning. You have given it to Enugu State.

“Our students came out with good grades in JAMB and WAEC. Our students are ICT-compliant, among other achievements.

“We said we must come because there is nothing as urgent as showing gratitude. An act of ingratitude is worse than a traitor’s sword. His Excellency, we say thank you.”

Speaking in the same vein, the Coordinator, Teachers for Good Governance (TGG), Mrs. Ify Dunu, the Chief Supervising Principal (CSP), Mr. Christopher Ekwunife and Mrs. Chinedu Eze from PPSMB Headquarters, all applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration’s transformational policies in the education sector and commitment to the wellbeing of the principals and teachers, reassuring the governor of their support for his senatorial bid and that of Barr. Mbah, and other PDP candidates.

Endorsing their stance, the Chairman of the PPSMB, Dr. Mrs. Ugwuanyi, informed Gov. Ugwuanyi that the joy on the faces of the principals and teachers was borne out of their conviction that the governor has done so well for them.

She used the opportunity to express gratitude to the governor for sending her to National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Jos, for training and appointing her the Chairman of the PPSMB as well as giving her people of integrity and intellectual prowess to work with as members of the Board.

The Board Chairman equally commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for setting an unprecedented national record in training 55 Directors and Permanent Secretaries at NIPPS, stressing that no state in Nigeria has done so.

She pointed out that the landmark achievements the Board has recorded was because of the governor’s support and the opportunity he gave them to excel.

Reaffirming the teachers’ support for the governor’s senatorial bid and that of other PDP candidates, Mrs. Ugwuanyi stressed: “We will do it just as we have always done before. We want to start by going for a thanksgiving on your behalf in the six educational zones. It will be called ‘Teachers Thanksgiving’ on your behalf. After this thanksgiving, we will go back to our various schools and kick-off what we call School-to-School Voters Education.”

The State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, the PDP candidate for Nsukka West Constituency, Hon. Amos Amadi Agbo, former Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Hon. Ogbo Asogwa, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Religious Matters, Bishop Chinedu Nwoye, Permanent Secretary/Secretary of the PPSMB, Remigius Chibuzo Eze, and a Board Member, Ugochukwu John Eneze, were among the dignitaries that witnessed the event.

SOME NGOs SEEK PPSMB APPROVAL FOR PARTNERSHIP.

On 6th of October 2022, some representatives of NGOs within and outside Enugu State convereged at PPSMB Headquarters to discuss on partnering with the Board (PPSMB).

The Executive Chairman of Post Primary School Management Board, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, the Board Members 1&2, Hon. John Ugochukwu Eneze and Hon. Chukwuma Ephraim Okenwa respectively and the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Remi Eze were present during the meeting.

During her interaction with the NGOs, Dr. Ugwuanyi said that the purpose of the gathering is to familiarise themselves with the new Board members.

While speaking, she recalled how she attracted an NGO that registered more than five hundred indigent students for senior WAEC and encouraged them to emulate such kind of charitable work.

She appealed to some of them that are already partnering with the Board to avoid the use of PPSMB to defraud people. According to her, "any seed you sow on earth or on our students, you shall reap the fruit".

Furthermore, the Chairman reminded them that henceforth all sensitization programs will now hold at Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Conference Center, PPSMB Headquarters Enugu. She encouraged them to try as much as possible to always extend their sensitizational programs to Schools in rural areas.

Commending the Executive Chairman, a representative of the Women Information Network (WINET) praised the leadership of the Board for her kindness and appreciated God for the wisdom and ability to do the work. She pledged to do their best for the interest and future of the Students.

ON THE SPOT CHECK/MONITORING OF SCHOOLS

The Executive Chairman of Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB Enugu, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Engr. Remi Eze and Directors from other Departments paid an unscheduled visit to some schools in Enugu metropolis and it's environs for on the spot check of teachers as regards attendance to school and classes.

Among the schools visited were, Day Secondary School Independence layout Enugu, Government Secondary school GRA Enugu, National Grammar School Nike, Girls Secondary School Abakpa-Nike, Girls High School Uwani, City Girls Secondary School Enugu and New layout Secondary school Ogui Enugu.

The Chairman, a leader who understood the importance of monitoring and the impact it will create in Public Secondary Schools, moved round the classrooms in all the schools they visited to ensure the effectiveness of teaching and conducive environment for learning.

Dr. Ugwuanyi, addressing the teachers in all the Schools visited, stated that the purpose of the monitoring was to ensure that the training organized by the Board during Teachers Head Count is yielding good fruits. Moreover, she advised the tutorial Staff to be of good behaviour and always dress neatly to avoid abuse or pity.

THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF SKILL FEST ACQUISITION PROGRAM

AS YOU GO HOME, CONTINUE TO PRACTICE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNT : PPSMB CHAIRMAN TO STUDENTS.

As the saying goes; "that whatsoever has a beginning, must have an end", captures the situation yesterday as a good number of students gathered at the Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Conference center, PPSMB, Enugu for the closing ceremony of 2022 skill fest acquisition program. This was organized by PPSMB Enugu in partnership with CEDInitiative and Ugo Touch of Life Foundation (U-TOLF).

The program which was tagged "One Student, One Skill", was aimed at teaching the students different skills during the long vacation in order to keep their minds and hands busy.

In her opening remarks, the Chairman of PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, appreciated God for bringing the students to the end of the training and also to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his approval for the program.

She also thanked everyone that has contributed to the success of the program.

Dr. Ugwuanyi told the Students that the program which has ended today the 30th of September,2022, doesn't mean the end of learning, but that they are free to partner with the facilitators in order to be perfected in any of the skills.

In a big way, she applauded the efforts of the facilitators, In her words, "you are the reason why they are happy", She prayed that God will reward each and every one of them abundantly.

Dr. Ugwuanyi went round in company of Member 1, Hon. John Ugochukwu Eneze, Permanent Secretary of the Board, Engr. Remi Eze, Directors and Heads of Departments, to inspect the products produced by the students during the training.

Earlier in his speech, founder and Director of CEDInitiative, Engr. Donald Chukwanyi, expressed his gratitude to the Management and Staff of PPSMB. He told the audience that teachers were not part of the training, because this is the core job of most of the facilitators, which they use for a living.

The event featured, Intensive talk show on different skills learnt by the students, drama and presentations of prizes to outstanding students.

Member 1, Hon. John Ugochukwu Eneze in his closing remarks, prayed for God's continuous protection on the Students as they go back to their various schools for 2022/23 academic year.

AMAZON AWARD 2022🥳🥳🥳✨

The saying that when a good leader is in Authority the people rejoice aptly captures the situation today at Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, when the Executive Chairman, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni, FCISM was adjudged as the winner of the prestigious Amazon Award 2022.

Presenting the award to the Executive Chairman of PPSMB by Daniel Ukwu leadership Foundation in her office, a director in the foundation, Mr Okolo Norbert, described Dr. Ugwuanyi as a round peg in a round hole as far as administration in education is concerned.

He continued further to praise Dr. Ugwuanyi and her team for tackling indiscipline and truancy amongst teachers, which is today yielding positive results in teachers that are now very much busy with what they were recruited for.

All these equally translated to Enugu State being ranked the best state in Educational Performance with the students winning national honors and also in the released WAEC results that gave Enugu state first in South East and second in the whole of Nigeria.

In the same vain, the foundation also applauded the outstanding leadership and transformation agenda of Dr. Ugwuanyi in organizing Capacity Building Workshop for Principals of secondary schools in the state to acquire new leadership skills and current developments in the management of educational institutions. The Directors in the board were also part of the workshops aimed at improving their performance and management of their various Departments for overall excellent outputs.

The foundation mentioned other outstanding achievements of Dr Ugwuanyi and her management such as CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS IN THE SIX EDUCATIONAL ZONES, BUILDING OF A THREE THOUSAND CAPACITY CONFERENCE CENTER, STRICT IN TEACHERS MONITORING SYSTEM, REHABILITATION OF INFRASTRUCTURES, INITIATION of the SKILL FEST targeted at "one student, one skill" and improved welfare for the staff and teachers.

However, in her reaction, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi thanked the foundation for the award, and dedicated it to all those that have worked tirelessly for the upliftment of Education in Enugu State. She went further to express her gratitude to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the opportunity he gave to her to serve in that capacity.

According to Dr. Ugwuanyi in her closing remarks, she promised never to relent in her services to humanity.

*DO YOUR BEST AS A TEACHER AND GOD WILL CROWN YOUR EFFORTS WITH SUCCESS : PPSMB CHAIRMAN TO TEACHERS FROM AGBANI AND ENUGU ZONES*

Capacity Building Workshop /Head Count, which was organized by PPSMB Enugu in partnership with Enugu State government ended yesterday, 23rd September 2022 with Agbani and Enugu Zones.

The venue for the training, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Conference center, PPSMB Headquarters Enugu, was filled with teachers from the two education zones.

Addressing the participants during the training, the Executive Chairman of PPSMB, *Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM,* who was so excited at the huge turn out of teachers, told them that God has shown the board mercy by making our students stand out in the last WAEC results.
She told the teachers not to allow themselves to be intimidated, because they are educated, intelligent, Models and people that God use to raise leaders and bring other people to the good positions they are currently occupying.
Dr. Ugwuanyi equally used the opportunity to encourage the teachers to always do their best and God will definitely bless their efforts.

On teachers rationalization, Dr. Ugwuanyi told them that they have the right to apply for transfer, if they have spent more than seven years in a particular school and on the ground of proximity. In other words, she said that the exercise will help them make new friends, change environment and make a better productivity. Also, as the board prepares them for 2022/2023 academic season, she told the teachers as foot soldiers of the board in their various schools, that they should try as much as possible to live up to the Board's expectations; by being punctual to school, always clock in & out, be the whistle blowers of the board and in all, do the right things.

In this vain, the Member 1 of the Board, Hon. John Ugochukwu Eneze, thanked the teachers for turning out in their numbers. He told them the essence of the workshop, which is to get them fully prepared for the new academic session. Also, not to be harassed and intimidated when the schools resume on 26th September 2022. He also reminded them of the need to upgrade themselves in ICT.

The 21st Century Teacher, Modeling Parental Teaching and leadership And Conflict Management Skills In Enugu State Public Secondary schools, all these and more were the topics treated by Engr. Donald Chukwuanyi, Mr Chukwuemeka Samuel and Professor Sola Adeyanju mni, respectively.

The training came to end with a closing prayer for a successful 2022 /2023 academic year by the Member 1 of the Board, Hon. John Eneze.

*PPSMB CONCLUDES A FOUR DAY TEACHERS CAPACITY BUILDING CONFERENCE WITH HEAD COUNT*

The Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB headed by Dr. Mrs Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, as chairman has concluded a first of its kind, 4 day capacity building seminar for teachers .The seminar was organized in partnership with the revered NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF POLICY AND STRATEGIC STUDIES, NIPSS. NIPSS is at present the foremost leadership training and development institute in Nigeria

The 4 day seminar was organized to retool and equip the over 7,800 teachers in public secondary schools with requisite knowledge in 21st century teaching skills and performance enhancing tools, leadership and conflict management, and impact of new improved technology on education.

His Excellency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Executive Governor of Enugu state delegated His Lordship Bishop Chinedu Nwoye to deliver the goodwill message and congratulations to all the teachers in Enugu for their sustained feat in academic excellence with 2021 best performing state in WAEC and 2022 overall best performing students in Nigeria. Enugu state has set new records.

His Lordship Bishop Nwoye Chinedu also delivered a stern warning of Gov. Ugwuanyi on teacher absenteeism as such has negative effect on performance and will attract severe disciplinary action ranging from suspension to termination of appointment in line with the Enugu State Civil service rules.

The Chairman of PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi in her address also congratulated the teachers for the feat and told the excited teachers that negotiations are on going with the Governor thru the board to provide RURAL Allowance to motivate teachers in remote communities as such reduce their logistic challenges

The Chairman of PPSMB, Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi also gave a charge to teachers to gear up for awards soon as Enugu state aims to become the best performing state in both academics and moral excellence in West Africa

Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi had initiated a strict teacher performance monitoring system as proactive measure against teacher absenteeism. The chairman recently received approval of the governor to engage the Nigeria Security and Civil defense corps to provide armed security to all secondary schools in Enugu to protect students, teachers and ICT and laboratory equipment from criminals.

The sustained record breaking performance of Enugu State public secondary schools in Nigeria is a testament of the massive investment of Gov. Ugwuanyi in public education thru provision of infrastructure, improved teaching aids and motivation of teachers with prompt salaries and promotions

The outstanding performance of PPSMB in 2021 and 2022 is evident that women have capacity to lead and outperform their male counter parts in certain areas. Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi is a round peg in round hole having served as a teacher, grew through civil service cadre to a permanent secretary, attended many professional leadership trainings and obtained many academic qualifications before her appointment as chairman of PPSMB. The PPSMB board is also populated by a team of egg heads with vast experience in administration from various public , private circles

It is noteworthy to state that Public secondary schools in Enugu have highly qualified teachers, safe and good learning environments and excellent emphasis on holistic child development thru moral education and discipline.

Enugu state public secondary schools are grouped into 6 education zones. Udi zone produced the 2022 best performing student in Nigeria, a brilliant girl. Thanks to Dr.Favour Ugwuanyi mni FCISM, for her scholarship programs and free special WAEC registration packages for gifted children from rural poor communities. Dr FESTUS UZOR, IKEOHA AGBAJA and the chief of staff to Governor of Enugu state, sent his congratulations to the UDI education zone.
