Yesterday, the Yobe State SDGs Office, led by the SDGs Project Coordinator Dr. Adamu Audu and his team, alongside a delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), embarked on a community engagement visit to Machina Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders, including the Local Government Executive, traditional leaders, members of the Emirate Council, community representatives, farmers, and herders, to discuss critical challenges affecting the communities, particularly border-related tensions, farmer–herder conflicts, competition over limited water resources, and the urgent need for sustainable water solutions.

The dialogue provided an important platform for stakeholders to share experiences, identify root causes of conflicts, and explore collaborative approaches that will promote peaceful coexistence, climate resilience, and sustainable management of natural resources.

The visit reflects the commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Mai Mala Buni, CON, Executive Governor of Yobe State, towards strengthening partnerships, promoting peacebuilding initiatives, addressing climate-related challenges, and improving the livelihoods of citizens across the State.

The collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) represents a significant step towards supporting evidence-based interventions, community resilience, and sustainable development efforts aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ LACHAWAMA Project and Yobe State SDGs Office Visit Mai-Sandari Integrated Camp to Strengthen Humanitarian and Development Collaboration

As part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development, strengthen community resilience, and enhance partnerships, the team from the German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ LACHAWAMA Project, in collaboration with the Yobe State SDGs Office, yesterday visited the Mai-Sandari Integrated Camp to gain firsthand understanding of the community’s needs, existing interventions, and opportunities for improved support and collaboration.

The visit provided an important platform for engagement with stakeholders and community members, allowing both organizations to assess priority areas, identify development gaps, and explore practical solutions that will contribute to improving the livelihoods and well-being of vulnerable populations.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Mai Mala Buni, CON, Executive Governor of Yobe State, towards strengthening partnerships with development partners and implementing impactful interventions that promote inclusive growth, humanitarian support, environmental sustainability, and long-term development across the State.

Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Development: German Agency for International Cooperation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ LACHAWAMA Project Visits Yobe State SDGs Office

Today, the Yobe State SDGs Office welcomed the team from the German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ LACHAWAMA Project for a technical meeting focused on strengthening partnership, collaboration, and coordination towards achieving sustainable development goals in Yobe State.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both teams to discuss areas of mutual interest, explore strategic collaboration opportunities, and identify practical approaches that will contribute to improving livelihoods, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and community development across the State.

As part of the visit, the German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ LACHAWAMA Project team also visited the Mai-Sandari Integrated Camp to gain firsthand understanding of the community context, ongoing interventions, and opportunities for enhanced support and collaboration.

Yobe State SDGs Office Hosts High-Level UNICEF Delegation to Advance Strategic Development Priorities

The Yobe State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office had the privilege of receiving a high-level delegation from UNICEF led by Dr. Marie Marcos, MD, MPH, Health Manager, Nutrition Assistance, alongside other senior UNICEF officials, in a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening development outcomes across Yobe State.

The meeting focused on identifying transformative SDG interventions that can be implemented in complementarity with UNICEF's support to the Yobe State Government under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN. Discussions centered on accelerating efforts to reduce maternal and newborn mortality, improve youth health and wellbeing, strengthen nutrition services, and enhance climate resilience across communities in the state.

The delegation commended the commitment of the Yobe State Government to improving the lives of its citizens through strategic investments in health, education, social protection, and sustainable development. Both parties explored opportunities for deeper collaboration to ensure that development interventions deliver lasting impact and contribute significantly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Yobe State.

A major highlight of the engagement was the discussion on preparations for the 1st Yobe State SDGs Summit 2026. The summit is envisioned as a landmark platform that will bring together government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, United Nations agencies, donor organizations, civil society organizations, academia, the private sector, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders to showcase achievements, share innovative solutions, mobilize partnerships, and accelerate progress towards sustainable development.

YOBE STATE AT THE FOREFRONT OF CLIMATE ACTION

In line with the commitment of the Yobe State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, the Yobe State SDGs Project Coordinator, Dr. Adamu Audu, RAS, ASAN, participated in the Conference of Youth on Environment and Climate Change organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Nigeria at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja.

The conference brought together policymakers, development practitioners, youth leaders, environmental advocates, and key stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions to environmental challenges and climate change while promoting sustainable development across Nigeria.

Dr. Adamu Audu's participation reflects the commitment of the Yobe State SDGs Office to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through strategic partnerships, youth engagement, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience initiatives.

Appointment

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON COMN has approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Goje, as acting Secretary to the state government with immediate effect.

Dr. Goje, until his appointment is the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Gov. Buni urged the new appointee to rededicate his efforts in the service of the state and the betterment of the people.
