OBANLIKU MAKES HISTORY AS BLACK DIAMOND BAND OFFICIALLY SECURES CARNIVAL CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZE

The Black Diamond Band of Obanliku Local Government Area has officially received its prize after emerging overall winner of the 2025 Ogoja Carnival, a remarkable achievement that has further strengthened Obanliku’s position as one of Cross River State’s foremost promoters of culture and tourism.

Competing under the carnival theme, “Traces of Time,” the band captivated judges and spectators with a vibrant presentation that highlighted the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Obanliku people. The performance stood out for its creativity, artistic excellence, and compelling storytelling, earning widespread acclaim from cultural enthusiasts and carnival observers.

The victory has been widely celebrated across the local government area, with residents describing it as a proud moment for Obanliku and a reflection of the community’s commitment to preserving its cultural identity.

Speaking on the achievement, the Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Hon. Amb. Chief (Dr) Sunny Ayang, JP, popularly known as the “Home Man for the Home Job,” attributed the success to the collective efforts of the carnival contingent, cultural stakeholders, and the people of Obanliku.

According to him, the triumph emphasizes the local government’s commitment to cultural revival, tourism promotion, and youth engagement. He noted that culture remains a powerful vehicle for community development and economic growth.

Hon. Sunny Ayang also commended the team, led by Dr. Mrs. Christy Mike Ushie, for its dedication, discipline, and resilience throughout the competition. He described the award as a victory for every son and daughter of Obanliku and encouraged the contingent to sustain its winning spirit ahead of future cultural events.

“Our success at the Ogoja Carnival demonstrates what can be achieved through unity, hard work, and determination. We remain confident that Obanliku will continue to distinguish itself on larger cultural stages and showcase the richness of our heritage to the world,” he stated.

Stakeholders have linked the achievement to the administration’s renewed focus on cultural preservation and tourism development since assuming office. They believe these efforts have significantly increased Obanliku’s visibility on the cultural map of Cross River State.

With preparations expected to commence for upcoming editions of both the Ogoja and Calabar Carnivals, residents have expressed optimism that the Black Diamond Band will build on its latest success and continue to bring honour to the local government.

According to some Obanliku stakeholders, the victory is being celebrated not only as a win for the Black Diamond Band but also as a testament to the resilience, creativity, and enduring cultural pride of the people of Obanliku.
