OUR POSITION
We, the organizers of Nka Nkot Mbok, are surprised to have seen a Public Service Announcement from the Office of the State Security Adviser, alleging that we are bent on holding the street procession despite security advice from his office. We want to assure the Security Adviser, the young people who were to take part in the procession, and the general public that this was a misunderstanding of our intentions.
On receipt of the first Public Service announcement from the Office of the State Security Adviser dated 24th January 2025, we released a letter on Saturday 25th January, immediately suspending the procession and PROPOSED a new date of Saturday 1st of February.
We then sent letters to the State Director DSS and the CRS Commissioner of Police seeking their permission and support to hold the procession on the new date. Furthermore, we wrote to the State Security Adviser informing him of our new proposed date, and further had a physical meeting in his office in a bid to resolve all the issues. We attach all acknowledged correspondences in this regard showing dates.
We are therefore very shocked to have seen this new public service announcement from his office without recourse to us.
Nka Nkot Mbok is a peaceful organization that seeks to promote the Efik culture. The procession is meant to promote peace, love, and harmony amongst our teeming youth.
Even though treated unjustly, we want to assure the general public that the procession will not be held until we have the full support and collaboration of the entire security network in Cross River State, as our intention is peaceful and our desire is to further our record of never having a security or safety incidence in over a decade of the procession being in existence.
We hope this provides assurance and more clarity on the issue, as we pray that posterity vindicates us all.
God bless the Efik, Efut and Qua Nations
God bless Cross River State.
