Thanks To God, I Am Strengthened by Knowledge And Renewed for Service

Today, 15th December 2025, I am profoundly grateful to God for the successful external defence of my Ph.D at the prestigious University of Uyo.

This academic milestone represents years of discipline, sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth and excellence. Balancing the responsibilities of public service with the demands of advanced academic research was challenging, but it reinforced my belief that leadership must continually be strengthened by knowledge, learning, and vision.

I sincerely appreciate my supervisors, examiners, colleagues, family, and all who supported me throughout this journey as your encouragement and prayers played an invaluable role in this success.

This achievement is not an end, but a renewed call to serve better, lead with greater insight, and contribute more meaningfully to sustainable development and environmental Governance.

To God be the glory.

Environmental Renewal in Focus As I Present The 2026 Environment Ministry Budget to the Cross River State House of Assembly

On Wednesday, I had the honour of presenting the 2026 Budget Estimates of the Cross River State Ministry of Environment before the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA), a significant step in advancing our shared commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Cross River State.

In my presentation, I outlined our ministry’s strategic vision for the 2026 fiscal year, a vision fully aligned with the developmental priorities of the Governor Bassey Otu led administration.

The budget has been meticulously structured to strengthen environmental protection, bolster climate resilience, and upscale sanitation and public hygiene across both rural and urban communities.

The 2026 Budget Proposal is built on five pivotal pillars that will drive our environmental agenda:

1. Reforming Waste Management Systems

2. Scaling Up Sanitation and Public Hygiene Campaigns

3. Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

4. Environmental Restoration and Expansion of Green Initiatives

5. Strengthening Enforcement and Environmental Compliance

I also highlighted some of the ministry’s key achievements in the outgoing year, including improved waste evacuation operations and far reaching environmental awareness campaigns. These accomplishments form the foundation upon which the 2026 budget seeks to consolidate and expand.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, in his remarks, commended the clarity, depth and proactive nature of the budget presentation while he praised the renewed direction of the ministry and assured the House’s unwavering support toward ensuring the environmental sector gets the priority it rightfully deserves.

Other honourable members, in their separate contributions, reaffirmed the Legislature’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to advance policies that will guarantee a cleaner Cross River State.

This festive season offers us a precious moment to reflect on our collective journey, celebrate our unity, and renew our resolve toward building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Cross River State.

I heartily applaud His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the rebirth of our dear state.

As we embrace the beauty and excitement of the season, I urge all residents to remain steadfast in maintaining cleanliness, practicing proper waste disposal, and protecting our environment. The environment is our shared inheritance, and its preservation is our collective responsibility. so let us keep our streets clean, avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse as we continually support Government’s ongoing environmental reforms with renewed dedication.

This year’s Calabar Carnival, Africa’s biggest street party, once again showcases the unmatched creativity, cultural richness, and hospitality of our people, therefore as visitors throng our streets to enjoy the festivities, let us present a Cross River that is clean, welcoming, orderly, and environmentally responsible.

On behalf of the management and staff of the Cross River State Ministry of Environment, I pray this festive season brings you peace, joy, and the warmth of togetherness.

END OF YEAR THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS CAROL.

As we draw the curtain on another productive year, the Management and staff of the ministry of Environment gathered in a solemn and joyful atmosphere to hold our End of Year Thanksgiving and Christmas Carol Service, an occasion dedicated to appreciating the Almighty God for His unfailing mercy, preservation, and guidance over us throughout the year.

In my address, I expressed profound gratitude to God for keeping every member of staff in sound health and for granting us the strength and wisdom required to execute our duties effectively. The ministry has witnessed notable progress, and we owe our success to God’s grace and the collective commitment of our dedicated workforce.

I encouraged all staff to embrace thanksgiving as a daily lifestyle, reminding us that a grateful heart attracts continuous blessings. I also urged everyone to uphold scriptural principles, live in peace, extend love to others, and share generously as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our guest minister, Pastor Joseph Ogon, delivered a thought provoking sermon titled “Don’t Revenge.” He admonished us to cultivate the heart of Christ, embody forgiveness, and nurture love toward one another, values that are essential for personal growth, workplace harmony, and the advancement of our ministry.

The celebration featured soul lifting Christmas carols, Bible readings, testimonies, and special renditions that ushered us into the spirit of the Yuletide season.
Together, we offered prayers of thanksgiving and intercession for our beloved State and Nation, for peace, security, prosperity, and for the continued success of the administration of His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

We also prayed for God’s continued protection, wisdom, and favour upon the management and staff of the Ministry of Environment as we prepare to enter a new year with renewed purpose.

As part of our preparations for the 2025 Yuletide celebrations and the world famous Carnival Calabar, the Ministry of Environment has intensified sanitary enforcement measures across Cross River State to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for our people and the thousands of tourists expected to visit.

During the November statewide environmental sanitation exercise in Calabar, I emphasized the urgent need to upscale our efforts in view of the anticipated influx of visitors and fun seekers because It is our collective obligation to keep our state clean and uphold our reputation as one of the most hospitable and orderly tourism destinations in Nigeria.

While on inspection at the Eight Miles Flyover, I ordered the closure of roadside markets operating illegally along pedestrian walkways and major access routes because such activities obstruct movement, endanger lives, and constitute a serious environmental nuisance.

We must restore sanity to our public spaces.

Our visit to the Marian abattoir revealed an unacceptable sanitary condition, prompting immediate corrective actions which is why I issued strict warnings that anyone found violating environmental regulations will face enforcement penalties without exception.

Although this November exercise marks the final statewide sanitation activity for the year, our intervention efforts will continue including desilting of drainages, evacuation of waste, pruning of weak trees, and public health protection initiatives.

My sincere appreciation goes to the Environmental Task Force, ministry staff, NGOs, volunteers, security agencies, and every citizen who participated.

Several offenders have been arrested and prosecuted at the Mobile Courts, demonstrating our commitment to accountability.

As we approach the festive season, I strongly urge all residents, business owners, and community leaders to join hands with the Government in maintaining cleanliness in homes, markets, streets, and public spaces.
