We participated in the 2nd Annual Lecture organised by the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The event, themed “Credible Elections and National Security in Nigeria”, brought together leading voices in electoral governance, security, and public policy to examine the critical intersection between transparent elections and national stability — especially as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The lecture was expertly chaired by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, who emphasized that elections and security are not parallel tracks but “two sides of the same coin of national stability.”

The lead presentation was delivered by the erudite Barr. Mike Igini, former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, who provided deep insights into the challenges and imperatives of organizing free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.

Distinguished discussants included Professor Okey Ikechukwu Okey Ikechukwu , Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, Professor Olafunmilayo Paramalam, and other prominent scholars and practitioners who enriched the conversation with robust analysis and practical recommendations.

In my contribution I stressed the urgent need for enhanced risk management frameworks in the electoral process. I noted that several critical risks (some too sensitive for public discussion) must be proactively identified and mitigated well ahead of the 2027 elections to safeguard electoral integrity and national security.

Events like this reinforce the importance of intelligence-led approaches, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and proactive risk mitigation in building resilient democratic institutions. At Beacon, we remain committed to supporting organisations and institutions with actionable intelligence and enterprise risk management solutions across Nigeria and the Sahel.
