OGONI WATER PROJECTS: A PATTERN OF FAILURE AND WASTE MUST END.

While the Honourable Minister of Environment prepares to visit Ogoni again to commission yet another borehole project running into billions of Naira, at the invitation of his partners, we are compelled to remind him of abandoned promises and his pass failures.

Five days after commissioning, the Ebubu Eleme and Gwara water projects collapsed and have remained unfixed till date.

Gwara Water Project: ₦1,799,151,565
Contractor: Surez Global Resources Limited
Ebubu Eleme Water Project: ₦1,074,669,221
Contractor: Duliz Dredging and Construction Ltd

The combined cost of the two failed boreholes is ₦2,873,820,786.

In the coming days, we shall release further details on these companies, how the contracts were awarded, and how the funds were disbursed.

In any environment where public accountability and the rights of citizens are respected, both the Honourable Minister and the Project Coordinator would have resigned by now over this monumental failure.

To plan another visit to Ogoni to commission another borehole, while previous multi-billion Naira projects lie in ruins, shows that looting has become the culture.

There is no problem. My team and I will be on ground to receive the Honourable Minister and to ask him to account for his “good works” in Ogoni land.

The people of Ogoni deserve clean, functional water, not billboards of abandoned projects.We have numerous abandoned water project across Ogoni communities fully paid for,but contractors didn't receive the full payment.
The day of accountability is drawing closer.

MY ENCOUNTER WITH MR. LASTOURS DE GABRIEL

Mr. Lastours de Gabriel showed deep interest in several issues relating to my identity and the passion that drives my work.

It is common knowledge that whenever I introduce myself, I begin from my roots — Luwa community, my native village, and the Ogoni Nation ,that will soon be a topic of global debate. There is always something unique about that introduction. I often see the curiosity it sparks in people who want to know more about my people and our story.

Beyond my personal business as an entrepreneur which I run to provide for my family and support those around me the center of my mission remains my people.

We are preparing to take our message to the global stage to let the world understand that things should not remain the way they are. Where there is a wrong, there must be a challenge.

God is a God of progress. Stagnation is never part of His agenda for any society and the people. Therefore, we must develop concepts and actions that align with His agenda and move our people forward.

My interactions with Mr. Gabriel Lastours throughout the event and meetings have further strengthened my resolve. We must move forward, and we must do so more aggressively.

PRESS STATEMENT
CALL FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT OVER THE OGONI CLEAN-UP

Before departing the country on Monday for an international engagement, I submitted an official letter to the office of the Honourable Minister of Environment in Abuja, demanding his immediate resignation.

This demand is based on more disturbing findings regarding the management of the Ogoni Clean-up project.

Our investigations have revealed, in addition to the existing court injunction on the fraudulent variation cost, the following concerns:

1. A 22 Billion Naira Contract awarded for the assessment and characterization of contaminated soil in Ogoni to a company that does not meet the required qualification and technical capacity.
2. 28 Billion Naira expended on water projects that remain non-functional, commissioned by the Minister.
3. Accumulated tax refunds deducted from contractors but not properly accounted for.
4. A National Assembly committee report in our possession indicating that over 341 Billion Naira is unaccounted for out of the 900 Billion Naira that was received for a clean-up.

It is now evident that the Ogoni Clean-up project has been grossly mismanaged, looted, and rendered ineffective, with little or no tangible impact on the lives of the Ogoni people.

The continued stay of the Honourable Minister of Environment in office is causing further damage to the credibility and objectives of the project.

As an organization, we are also engaging with UNEP officials to seek further clarification on other international reports relating to the clean-up.

The manner in which the Nigerian Government has continued to respond to Ogoni issues on all fronts is totally unacceptable.

We are hopeful that our findings will culminate in a comprehensive and inclusive report that will determine the next course of action ,one that guarantees total justice and freedom for the Ogoni people.

LUYEP BENEFICIARY DEMONSTRATES THE FRUITS OF EMPOWERMENT

One of the beneficiaries of the Luwa Youth Empowerment Programme, LUYEP, has today demonstrated the tangible results of commitment, hard work, and skill development.

I had the privilege of dedicating a brand-new motor vehicle purchased by the beneficiary for commercial purposes. This achievement is a clear testimony to what happens when a young person applies themselves to what they have learned.

I am deeply excited about this milestone and I pray that this same level of growth and success will be replicated in the lives of all LUYEP beneficiaries.

We look forward to more testimonies, including the dedication of landed properties and other achievements in the coming days.

CALL FOR URGENT ACTION TO ADDRESS INSECURITY IN BORI

I am deeply disappointed and disturbed by the growing level of insecurity in Bori.

I strongly condemn the killing of Letam Kinee, popularly known as Langa, in the city of Bori. At this stage, our conversations should be centered on how to develop Bori, transform its infrastructure, and improve the wellbeing of our people , not on violence and loss of lives.

The rising tide of hatred, hostility, and disregard for human life among us is a matter of serious concern. It threatens the peace, unity, and progress of Bori and the entire Ogoni nation.

I therefore urge all security agencies in Bori to work closely with community leaders and residents to prevent further breakdown of law and order. Those responsible for this ugly incident must be identified, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.

I further call on relevant authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that Bori is safe and secure for both indigenes and non-indigenes. Peace is the foundation for development, and we cannot afford to lose any more lives.

Official Statement

A few years ago, during the Mandela Washington Fellowship programme, I addressed the South African Ambassador to Nigeria, who was seated to my immediate left. The discussion centered on confidential reports we had received regarding the alleged torture and killing of Nigerian and other African nationals in secret.

During a sitting last year, following the registration of matters concerning the Ogoni people, I raised the report again regarding South Africa’s treatment of other Africans. At that time, only 52 leaders voted, and the majority opposed the report, accusing me of promoting hatred and disunity.

Today, the consequences are being felt across the continent because proactive steps were not taken earlier. Last month, the report was formally requested via email across the session, and this time, it received unanimous support.

The only Head of State to take direct action on the report was His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana. He acted on the findings and provided the necessary facilitation.

I am grateful to God. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has approved the report and acknowledged the need to place the matter on the agenda. The African Union is set to convene a public debate on xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants in South Africa.

Silence in the face of injustice and corruption ultimately allows everyone to be drawn into the consequences.

My sincere appreciation goes to President John Mahama.

We look forward to meeting with the President of South Africa and his delegation during the open session. The date will be announced in due course.

Today, July 17th, marks the specific day of the month when I was brought into this world by a higher power. My existence is not attributed to my own merit, but solely to God's mercy, grace, and unconditional love. May His name be glorified in every aspect. I am celebrating my birthday today.
