Press Release:

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 250 vulnerable elderly indigents of Kebbi State with N200,000 cash through her Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, aimed at promoting the well-being of elderly citizens and ensuring they live with dignity and joy.

The scheme, themed ‘Finding joy in old age’, is in its third edition and is designed to support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens from the age of 65 and above, including veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

Held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was represented by the First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajia Zainab Nasare Nasir, who was further represented by the wife of the Speaker, Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hajia Uwani Ankwa.

Hajia Zainab Nasare Nasir said since the inception of the current administration in 2023, the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative’ has made it a tradition to celebrate senior citizens every December, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to nation-building.

She said, “This social investment programme embodies the ongoing effort to ensure that elderly citizens live with dignity and joy, in a nation that genuinely cares for its own. This is in addition to free medical outreach and provision of assorted food items.”

She advised the beneficiaries to do all that is possible to find joy in old age, urging people to find purpose in community, compassion, and care.

“I encourage you to continue playing your part by staying healthy and active. Nurture both your body and mind through regular exercise and meaningful engagement,” she said.

She extended her heartfelt appreciation to all State Coordinators of RHI and partners for their support of the scheme.

“As the year draws to a close, I wish each of you a peaceful and joyous holiday season, and I pray that 2026 will bring renewed hope and greater accomplishments for us all and our beloved nation,” she said.

Gov. Idris Assents to 2026 Kebbi Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment.

Press release

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, titled “Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment”, thereby bringing it into law.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, following the formal presentation of the approved budget by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Muhammad Usman Zuru.

The 2026 Appropriation Bill was submitted for assent with a total sum of ₦642,930,818,157.99k, comprising recurrent and capital expenditures for the 2026 fiscal year.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, described the 2026 Appropriation Bill as another historic milestone achieved through effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.

Rt. Hon. Zuru explained that the bill was meticulously scrutinised, debated, and passed by the House in line with constitutional provisions and global legislative best practices, before being transmitted to the Governor for assent.

He noted that the 2026 budget clearly reflects Governor Idris’ vision for sustainable growth, infrastructure development, human capital advancement, and the overall prosperity of the people of Kebbi State. He added that the synergy between both arms of government has positioned the state as a model of fiscal discipline and responsible governance.

The Speaker further disclosed that within two years of the Governor’s administration, the 10th Assembly has passed 60 bills, all of which have received gubernatorial assent, an unprecedented achievement that demonstrates the Governor’s respect for democratic institutions and commitment to reforms.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering support for the administration’s development agenda.

In his response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed profound appreciation to the Speaker, principal officers, and members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly for their diligence, patriotism, and people-centred approach to legislation.

The Governor described the Assembly as “the true House of the people”, noting that its careful scrutiny of executive proposals has strengthened governance and ensured that laws and policies align with the aspirations of the people of Kebbi state.

He emphasised that his administration has enjoyed a harmonious relationship with the legislature, devoid of conflict, stressing that governance is about partnership, rather than rivalry, and that both arms of government exist to serve the collective interest of the people.

Governor Idris also underscored the importance of revenue generation, stating that successful implementation of the 2026 budget depends on improving Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to complement federal allocations, which he noted are insufficient to meet the growing developmental needs of the state.

He assured that the budget prioritises people-oriented projects, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and improved service delivery, adding that flexibility would be applied where necessary to maximise public benefit.

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the people of Kebbi State and expressed optimism that cooperation among the executive, legislature, and judiciary would be even stronger in 2026, paving the way for accelerated development and sustainable peace.
