NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS (NSCDC)
KEBBI STATE COMMAND
PRESS RELEASE
26TH APRIL, 2026
NSCDC KEBBI URGES PUBLIC TO SUPPORT PERSONNEL IN PROTECTING TELECOM INFRASTRUCTURE
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kebbi State Command, acknowledges public concerns regarding poor telecommunications services and planned protests in some parts of the country.
The Command wishes to clarify that many network disruptions are often caused by vandalism, theft of telecom equipment, and fibre cuts resulting from uncoordinated road construction activities, and not solely the responsibility of service providers.
The Command sees this period as an opportunity to educate the public and encourage collective responsibility in safeguarding Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
Key Points
Many service outages are caused by third-party damage, particularly unauthorized excavation activities.
Vandalism and theft at telecom sites often lead to network failure in affected communities.
Denial of access to engineers delays repairs and prolongs service interruptions.
Government is already taking steps to address service quality concerns.
Telecom infrastructure remains essential to banking, healthcare, education, and national security.
Actions Taken by the Command
Ongoing public sensitization through community engagement and media platforms.
Collaboration with relevant Ministries, Local Government Authorities, and contractors to ensure compliance with regulations.
Mediation with host communities to allow access for maintenance and repairs.
Increased patrols around critical telecom installations across the state.
Arrest and prosecution of offenders in line with CNII regulations.
Commandant’s Remark
The State Commandant urges residents to support security personnel in protecting telecom facilities, stressing that safeguarding national infrastructure is key to improving service delivery and ensuring uninterrupted communication services.
Conclusion
Members of the public are advised to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities around telecom facilities to security agencies. Protecting telecom infrastructure is a shared responsibility that benefits everyone.
