PRESS RELEASE
Kebbi SUBEB, UBEC Hold Training on Revised Basic Education Curriculum
The Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop for teachers and education managers on the Revised Basic Education Curriculum.
The 2day training, will hold on 6th–7th May 2026 at Atiku Bagudu Science Model Primary School, brought together key stakeholders in the basic education sector, including headteachers, principals, and education administrators from across the state.
Speaking at the formal flag-off, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Professor Sulaiman Khalid, emphasized the urgent need for all education stakeholders to embrace the revised curriculum, describing it as a critical tool for equipping learners with relevant 21st-century skills.
He noted that the introduction of modern subjects such as computer education across all levels reflects the evolving nature of education and the need to align learning with global realities. According to him, the new curriculum encapsulates essential knowledge and competencies required for national development.
Professor Khalid stressed that the era of the old curriculum has come to an end, adding that all teaching, learning, and assessments—including Common Entrance and Junior Secondary School examinations—must now strictly align with the revised framework.
He cautioned that teaching outdated or irrelevant content would amount to a disservice to both the education system and the economy, urging teachers to fully commit to the implementation process.
The Executive Chairman also highlighted the importance of inclusivity, calling for the involvement of private schools in the training process. He noted that private institutions account for a significant percentage of pupils within the basic education sector and must not be left behind in adopting the new curriculum.
Professor Khalid further underscored the importance of the cascade training model, explaining that participants have a responsibility to transfer the knowledge acquired to other teachers within their respective schools. He revealed that thousands of copies of the revised curriculum have been procured to support effective implementation.
Commending the facilitators, he expressed appreciation to Dr. Osman Muhammad for accepting to lead the training despite short notice and for dedicating time to guide participants through the new curriculum.
He reaffirmed Kebbi State’s strong performance in the education sector, stating that the state remains among the top achievers nationally, owing to the commitment and quality of its teachers. He added that recent recognition of a Kebbi teacher as the best in the North-West region further validates the state’s educational progress.
Also speaking, Board Member V, Dr. Usman Na’Allah Bunza, commended the Executive Chairman for his continuous efforts in improving basic education in the state. He equally praised the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, for appointing Professor Khalid, describing the decision as a right and impactful choice.
He urged participants to take the training seriously and ensure proper implementation of the revised curriculum for the overall benefit of pupils and the education system.
Earlier, the Director of Academic Services, Alhaji Faruku Salihu Koko, explained that the training was designed to equip teachers and education managers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively deliver the revised curriculum. He emphasized that the programme focuses on highlighting key changes, improving teaching methodologies, and ensuring uniformity in curriculum delivery across schools.
In his remarks, the Director of Quality Assurance, Birnin Kebbi LGEA, appreciated the Kebbi State Government and SUBEB leadership for organizing the training. He described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it would significantly enhance teaching standards and learning outcomes across the state.
Participants expressed commitment to applying the knowledge gained and cascading it to other teachers in their respective schools, in line with the Board’s implementation strategy.
The training marks another milestone in Kebbi State’s efforts to strengthen its basic education system and maintain its position among the leading states in educational development in Nigeria.
