Correctional Centre Unit of (MOJ, CRD), Visitation/ Section 12(4-6) Petty Offenders out of custody project Correctional centre on the 15th day of October 2021 .
Present at the centre are Mr Fred Aidenagbon, the MOJ Citizens Rights Unit head and Miss Tina Osazuwa a counsel in Citizens Rights Department of of Edo Ministry of Justice, Hadson Orako and Edwin Asibor of Securing the Creative Goldmine in Youths/ Edo state Yellow Ribbon Advocacy project coordinator

The core mandate of the department of CITIZENS RIGHTS DEPARTMENT of the Edo state Ministry of Justice is to ............
1.provide legal services for the underserved citizens of Edo State and ensure they get justice.
2.Provide out of court services and intervention for the under-served citizens such as aggrieved tenants, police harassment and domestic and marital issues.
3.Engage in correctional processes and decongestion of prisons.
4.Protection of the rights of Edo indigenes
5.Settle cases related to infringement of human right out of court.
The department is divided into 3 units because of its core mandate. They are viz:
A. Sexual and gender bases violence
B. Correctional center legal services
C. Public complaint.

I.Sexual and Gender based Violence:

this unit is saddled with the responsibility of:
- Engage in public sensitization and awareness creation programme.
- Provide timely and equitable access to justice
- Enforce laws that can protect women and girls from violence and punish perpetrators.
- Mediate on cases of Edo indigenes who cannot afford legal services.
- Ensure quality psychological support service and case management are offered to GBV Survivors
- Provide meaningful and direct support for GBV survivors .

II.Correctional centre legal service unit:

This unit is to among other things:
- Expedite cases of awaiting trial
- Provide access for legal counsel to the under-served indigenes of Edo State
- Collaborate with out services lawyers to provide pro bono services.
- Ensure the delivery of quarterly jail decongestion exercise in line with the Nigerian constitution.
- Embark on routine correctional centre visit and to make reports on releasable and pardonable inmates
- Promote activities to make sure prisons are minimally congested.

III.Public Complaint unit:

This unit is to provide the following services:
- Provide information and legal counsel to indigene on their basic fundamental right
- Stale court actions to mediate on case
- Settle cases amicably out of court
- Entertains from citizens complaint of injustice, corruption and unfair treatment.
- Refers cases of complaint appropertly
- Investigate complains and recommend steps towards discipline, mediation or litigation
