New Year Message
My dear compatriots,
As 2026 begins, I extend my warmest wishes to every Nigerian. We gather to reaffirm our collective spirit—tested but unbroken.
The past year held profound challenges: the anguish of mass abductions, the shadow of violence from groups like Boko Haram, and widespread economic pressure. I speak not to dwell on darkness, but to honor your resilience. Your strength is the bedrock of our recovery. Let 2026 be our year of consolidation and recovery.
Our unity is our greatest asset. We are one Nigeria. The security challenges we face are complex, rooted in criminality, not faith. We have declared a nationwide security emergency, are recruiting 20,000 additional police and guards, and through partnerships like our recent joint efforts, are steadfastly committed to restoring peace.
Our difficult reforms—removing the fuel subsidy and Tax Reform—were vital for long-term prosperity. They now fund transformative projects like the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and investments in healthcare, agriculture, and our digital future.
Yet, our most vital resource is you, our youth. You are central to our progress. Through initiatives like "One Youth, Two Skills," the NIYA GIGS platform, and a $220 million Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme, we are bridging the gap between learning and earning.
Today, I make a direct promise: my administration is committed to creating job opportunities. We mark our word: our goal is to enable 1 million jobs before the end of February 2026.
The Nigerian spirit shines globally through our artists, filmmakers, business leaders, and everyday heroes. Let us step into 2026 with hope, support one another, and work together to build the peaceful, prosperous Nigeria we know is possible.
I wish you a Hopeful and Prosperous New Year.
God bless you.
