I join millions of proud Nigerians in celebrating the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their outstanding achievement of securing 3rd place at the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

This victory is a powerful testament to resilience, discipline, and the unwavering Nigerian spirit. After a challenging journey, the team rose with courage and determination to finish the tournament strongly, reminding Africa and the world of Nigeria’s rich football heritage and competitive strength.

Throughout the competition, the Super Eagles displayed unity, character, and belief, qualities that inspired hope and pride across the nation. Their performance in the third-place playoff was not just a win on the pitch, but a symbolic triumph for every Nigerian who believes in the green and white.

This podium finish shows that Nigerian football is firmly on the path of renewal. With sustained unity, continuity in team development, and support from all stakeholders, the Super Eagles are well positioned to soar even higher in future competitions.

I commend the players, technical crew, and the Nigeria Football Federation for their commitment and professionalism. I also appreciate the tournament organizers for hosting a competition that showcased African excellence, passion, and unity.

On behalf of the people of Edo State and Nigeria at large, I say congratulations to our Super Eagles.

The nation is proud. Nigeria stands tall once again. 🇳🇬🦅

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have once again reaffirmed the nation’s place as the true Giant of Africa through their inspiring performance at the AFCON tournament in Morocco. What they delivered went far beyond football, it was a statement of resilience, belief, and national pride.

Still hurting from the pain of missing the World Cup, the team refused to be defined by disappointment. Instead, they transformed adversity into motivation, displaying courage, unity, and determination from the first whistle to the final ball. Across Morocco’s major stadiums, from Rabat and Casablanca to Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir, Nigeria played with authority, leaving a powerful mark in every arena.

Although their journey ended with a narrow semi-final loss to the host nation, Morocco, the Super Eagles exited the tournament with heads held high after an outstanding and courageous campaign.

One of the tournament’s standout figures was Calvin Bassey, whose commanding defensive performances, fearless tackles, and relentless energy echoed the legacy of Nigerian greats. His display embodied the fighting spirit that defined the team’s run.

This AFCON outing has made it clear: with this core squad, sustained unity, and the same unwavering spirit, Nigeria is poised not only to dominate African football again but to set the pace for years ahead.

As the Chairman of the Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating this remarkable team and commending the tournament organizers for a competition that reflected African excellence, passion, and unity.

The smiles, joy, and renewed hope across the nation say it all; the Eagles have risen again.

Nigeria is proud.
Africa has been reminded: The Super Eagles are back. 🇳🇬🦅

Earlier today, alongside Mr. Speaker and my distinguished colleagues, I joined His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, at the Government House, Benin City, for the signing into law of the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦939 billion, tagged the “Budget of Hope and Growth,” following its passage by the House.

While assenting to the bill, His Excellency expressed confidence that the Budget of Hope and Growth would move our dear state to greater heights. He commended Mr. Speaker and members of the House for our diligence, proactiveness, and commitment to ensuring a people-oriented budget process.

Mr. Speaker also rightly commended the Governor for his remarkable developmental strides, noting that his practical and purposeful style of governance has continued to positively transform Edo State, with tangible benefits already being felt by the people.

The 2026 budget places strong emphasis on critical sectors of the economy, notably agriculture and infrastructure, which directly impact the daily lives of Edo people. Food security and quality infrastructure remain fundamental to the well-being, growth, and prosperity of our state.

We have already witnessed the impressive performance of the first budget of this administration, evidenced by legacy projects such as the ongoing construction of the first and second flyover bridges across the state. With this track record, we are confident that the 2026 Budget will deliver fully and effectively in line with the aspirations of Edo people.

I congratulate His Excellency, my colleagues, and indeed all Edo people on this significant milestone. Together, we move forward with hope, growth, and renewed commitment to the progress of our dear state.

Yesterday, as Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, I joined His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, alongside other senior government officials, to receive the management team of the Niger Delta Development Commission led by the Managing Director, Chief Dr Samuel Ogbuku, at Government House, Benin City. Their visit was to seek Edo State’s hosting of the next edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival scheduled for February 2026, with the theme “Beyond Oil: Harnessing Talents.”

His Excellency welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed Edo State’s readiness to host a successful and memorable festival. He made it clear that the NDDC has chosen the right state, and I share that conviction wholeheartedly.

As the House Committee on Sports, the Committee under my leadership, and by extension the entire State Assembly led by our Speaker, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku, will continue to give full support to every effort that promotes sports development in our state. We have the talent, the capacity and the spirit to excel in every sporting activity, and we look forward to giving other Niger Delta states strong competition at the festival.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival, whose maiden edition was held earlier this year with over three thousand athletes from the nine Niger Delta states, was created to strengthen regional unity through sports. Edo State is ready to take this vision to a greater height.
