*NDP CANDIDATE DR. AUSTINE OYAREKWA FELIX-ADERI URGES GOV. MONDAY OKPEBHOLO TO ACT URGENTLY OVER RISING KIDNAPPING AND INSECURITY IN AKOKO-EDO*

Akoko-Edo, Edo State Dr. Austine Oyarekwa Felix-Aderi, the National Democratic Party candidate for Edo State House of Assembly, Akoko-Edo Constituency 2, has raised alarm over the escalating wave of kidnapping and violent attacks across Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. He is calling on the Edo State Government to intervene immediately to restore peace and protect lives and property.

In a statement issued today, 12th June,2026 as part of his democracy day message,Dr. Felix-Aderi described the security situation as critical and unsustainable for the people of Akoko-Edo.

“Over the past months, kidnapping has become a daily occurrence in our communities. Farmers can no longer access their farms without fear of abduction, and many victims remain in captivity for days without rescue. This has crippled agricultural activities, threatened food security, and left our people in constant fear,” he stated.

Dr. Felix-Aderi noted that criminal elements have increasingly identified Akoko-Edo’s forests and terrain as a base of operation due to the sophisticated weapons at their disposal and the limited capacity of current security arrangements.

*Key Demands to the Edo State Government*

The NDP candidate respectfully urges His Excellency, *Sen. Monday Okpebholo*, Governor of Edo State, to:

1. *Reinforce Joint Security Operations. Strengthen the combined team of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups and hunters currently deployed in Akoko-Edo with additional personnel and logistics.
2. Upgrade Equipment and Firepower Provide superior weaponry, mobility, and communication tools to enable security forces to effectively confront armed kidnappers who are better equipped.
3. *Enhance Intelligence and Surveillance. Deploy advanced intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance to identify, track, and dislodge criminal camps within and around Akoko-Edo forests.
4. *Establish Rapid Response Protocols. Ensure that reported cases of kidnapping trigger immediate and coordinated rescue operations.

Akoko-Edo is not asking for special favour. We are demanding the constitutional duty of government to secure lives and property. Our people deserve to farm, trade, and live without fear,” Dr. Felix-Aderi said.

He expressed confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s demonstrated commitment to security across Edo State and called for the same level of urgency and resources to be directed to Akoko-Edo without delay.

Dr. Felix-Aderi also called on traditional rulers, youth leaders, civil society, and all well-meaning citizens of Akoko-Edo to speak with one voice and support lawful efforts to reclaim peace in the area.

Fellow sons and daughters of Akoko-Edo,

I am Chief Dr Thomas Attah, and I speak to you today as one of you. I know the frustration. I know what it feels like to watch our roads wear down, our young people leave for opportunities elsewhere, and our communities wait too long for the development we deserve.

But here’s the truth I want you to hold onto: *No matter how things are today, tomorrow can still be better.*

Akoko-Edo is not forgotten. We are not finished. We have land that can feed us, minds that can build industries, and a culture that has stood strong for generations.

What we need now is leadership that listens first, plans properly, and delivers without excuses.
