😜 Mr. ladies’ man 😎
__________

Adam hurried with washing his face as he heard the ringing sound of his phone from the room. He glanced at his reflection in the mirror before he wiped his face with a towel and hurried out.

He bent over and picked up the phone from the coffee table. It had already stopped ringing. He arched his brow at the caller.

“Good God, Alexa,” he murmured.

Plopping down on the bed donned in only sweat pants, he contemplated whether to call her back.

When he dialed her number it didn’t ring twice before she answered.

“Something urgent?” He asked because Alexa never calls.

“I’m considering Gregory’s offer?” She let the words out in a rush.

“Which is?” He raised a brow.

“If there’s anything mom would ever want is for us to make a tiny bit of peace with him, and seeing that this kind of peace will make Jane suffer, oh I’m so accepting what he’s offering.”

Adam took a moment to ponder her words before speaking. “Is this why you called me? Eight in the morning?” He rolled his eyes. “Listen, I don’t care, okay. I don’t give a f**k. You’re an adult, I can’t control your freaking life but don’t think I’ll get involved in this madness.

“Bad news, I already did,” she announced and Adam paused. “I gave him your address and he’s on his way, to see.”

Adams’ fist tightened, knuckles white.

“Alexa,” he growled.

“You have to speak to him, Jane needs to be miserable. She has to be miserable, I’ll make sure of that,” Alexa's voice was laced with determination.

“You’re such a……” Adam couldn’t find the right words.

“Owen is threatening the hell out of Gregory, and I like the fear I saw in his eyes yesterday,” Alexa chuckled.

“Owen, is in California?” Adam arched his brow.

“Yes, he came back with Avery…..” Alexa let out a sigh before adding. “They’re getting married.”

Adam expected this, he saw it coming. But his brain and his heart never work together. His heart was thundering, palpating. He wanted to shrug and shove off the topic but his lips couldn’t move to say the word ‘okay.’

His chest was hurting.

“Are you okay?” Alexa's voice that had a trace of mockery drew him out of his trance.

“Why won’t I be?” He reached for the glass and poured in water., gulping it down at once like it could cool off his burning chest.

“I don’t know,” she sneered.

“Alexa, I just hope you know what you’re getting yourself into. And be careful,” Adam successfully changed the topic. “What Dad is offering is a lot, but you and I know you don’t need it. There’s nothing on earth that I won’t provide for you.”

“Adam i know, but this is more than just for money.”

“It’s for what?”

“Mom! For revenge,” Alexa spat.

“Owen is kinda….different now. Declan believes he killed Zed, I don’t know what length he can go to sustain the papers that’s……

“This doesn’t sound like the Adam I know. Where’s my brother and what have you done with him?”

“He’s grown, okay! He grew up!” Adam half yelled.

“I refuse to believe that,” Alexa scoffed. “And believe me I’m extra careful, I’m not doing this alone, I’m doing this with Declan,” she added.

“I knew,” Adam bobbed his head. “I knew he was the mastermind behind this s**t!”

“Whatever bro, goodbye,” Alexa hung up, leaving Adam in his thoughts.

“Merry Christmas,” Alexa’s text popped in seconds after she hung up. She couldn’t say it to him directly. Such a grumpy girl.

His life has changed a lot through the years, and sometimes he doesn’t even know what he’s living for.

It’s Christmas and everyone is with family but he wouldn’t dare return to LA, and that wasn’t because he was busy, but because he was scared to face his old life.

*

Jane sprinted into action immediately after Owen and Avery announced their engagement. Although the wedding was scheduled to be held in February, she was already making a huge noise about the event. The whole of California needed to anticipate, they surely had never seen anything like it.

She planned to make it better than Paxton’s and with Jessica’s influence made the occasion even more special.

“Son,” she called as she strolled into the dining room where he was having dinner. “Has Avery decided on the color of the day or should we do it for her?”

“No I think you should let her decide that,” he chewed slowly.

“Well she should hasten up then,” she took a seat next to him, smiling brightly. “Finally,” she muttered.

“What?” He raised a confused brow.

“I’m so excited, I almost gave up on this union,” she reached for his hands resting on the table, covering them with hers. “From the day she was born, when I first saw her, I knew she was meant for my son, for you,” she informed and Owen released a throaty laugh.

“That’s funny,” he shook his head as he laughed.

“Look, it came to pass anyway,” she sighed. “Get ready, the guests will soon start arriving.”

“I thought you said no Christmas party this year?” He half yelled.

“Just some friends,” she shrugged and Owen watched her in disbelief.

“Where’s dad?” He asked.

“Paris,” Jane tried to hide her discomfort but Owen didn’t miss it.

“He went to see Adam?” Owen scoffed. “He really is pulling this through?”

“Yes,” Jane muttered, her eyes downcast.

*

Adam sat on the couch, watching his father move around his sitting room, his shoes making soft thud sounds at each step he took. He hated how he looked just like this man.

“Great place,” he smiled and Adam just ignored him.

“You have ten minutes!” He grouched.

“Man of the match huh?” Gregory’s eyes caught his awards hanging on the other end of his sitting room. “How has the profession been?”

“Great,” Adam’s demeanor was ice cold.

“I’m proud of you son.”

“Don’t call me that.”

“Alexa must have told you already,” he finally decided to sit.

“Why the hell are you doing this?” Adam grimaced.

“Because it’s the least I can do.”

“Do we look hungry to you?” He scolded.

“No, but these properties will make your life easier and I know Nicole would….

“Don’t dare say her name!” Adam flared, and Gregory shrugged, not surprised by his reaction.

“You can punch me if you want but I’m doing this for her. I wronged her and you all, I don’t seek forgiveness but don’t deprive me of the help I’m offering.”

“Well I’m loudly depriving you, stay away from my sister and me,” Adam fumed.

“That was all Jane ever wanted, I can’t grant her that. I can’t give her happiness at last.”

“Then donate your stuff to a trust or whatever,” Adam rolled his eyes.

“When I have breathing children.”

“I believe you speak about Paxton and Owen.”

“Alexa is interested, and everyone knows she’s more difficult than you are. Just let me do this, for Nicole.”

“F**k!” Adam raked his fingers through his hair, rising to his feet. “Please get out,” he ordered as he began walking away from the sitting room.

“They made me do it. Jane and my parents, they made me do that to Nicole. Left to me, I would let her live comfortably but they wanted her dead and I couldn’t do much, I was young.”

“Shut your freaking mouth! You greedy bastard! You never cared about my mother all you wanted was your children! Now she’s dead and you have your kids. She lost, you won! You all won,” tears began coursing down Adam’s face.

He hasn’t healed from the pain, he only managed to survive thus far because he never talks about his mother. Never!

“I accept it, I know how you see things! At the end of the day, I wasn’t any different from Jane. But think of it? What would I stand to gain by hurting Nicole? I’m not trying to pin this on Jane but she killed the surrogate mother of Paxton and Owen and she…..

“I DON'T CARE!” Adam yelled so loudly that one would fear the building might shake. “I don’t want to know,” his voice reduced to a whisper, his eyes blood red from crying. “She’s dead, she’s gone. Y’all are happy, just get out. Leave me the f**k alone and never return.”

Gregory stood to his feet watching his son with concern. “Did you try seeing a therapist?”

“Get out!” Adam yelled, ready to punch Gregory if he stayed any longer.

“I’m sorry,” Gregory apologized, giving Adam one last smile before turning on his heel and barreling out.

Adam could see the pain and regret in his eyes but he didn’t care.

*

Adam woke up at three am after crying himself to sleep while drinking so many bottles. He cried and drank from the minute Gregory left and right now his head is banging.

He brushed past the bottles lying recklessly on the floor and headed for the shower. He had a good bath and took a tablet to help with his banging head.

Falling back on the bed by almost 4am, he couldn’t bring himself to sleep anymore. He took out his phone and for the first time in years, he broke his promise to himself. He was presently scrolling through Avery’s Instagram.

His heart was pounding in his ears as he kept scrolling. Her last post was a week ago. The post carried so many pictures of her in a Chinese restaurant. Adam's smile kept getting brighter at every slide. Avery was a work of art.

His heart twitched when he came across a slide. It was a selfie, she held up the phone while Owen kissed her cheek.

He tossed the phone unable to bear the sight. Although it was obvious, she was his fiancée and she was in a restaurant. Did he expect her to go to dinner alone? But the pain always hits hard, he’s never ready for it.

He shut his eyes trying to get her off his thoughts when his loud ringing tone disturbed the quiet morning. Who could be calling at this hour?

He frowned reaching for his phone. Somewhere in his stupid heart, he wished it could be Avery. It was Declan, who else could it be? Bro was a workaholic, he worked at any time.

“What's this about?” Adam grouched.

“Where’s your Dad?”

“Are you okay?” Adam frowned at the fact that Declan was referring to Gregory as his Dad.

“Where’s he?” Declan half yelled.

“How would I know, he left my house hours ago. What?”

“There’s a report, his Jet crashed, I guess he’s in it,” Declan spoke in one breath.

Did Adam hate Gregory? Yes. But the news wounded his heart even more.

“How’s he?” He panted.

“Debby did you hear something?”

Adam was losing patience as he listened to Declan speak to his girlfriend and co-worker.

“Declan! Did you hear anything?” He yelled impatiently.

“Dead, Adam, dead! His is dead!” From Declan’s voice, one could tell he was already in tears.

Adam froze with the phone against his ear.

💏CHAPTER 77&78🍆

An original story written by:
ANITA JERRY 🪄

😜 Mr. ladies’ man 😎
__________

Avery got a hotel room and locked herself in there for days. She wasn’t taking any calls. Her phone kept buzzing, her mom, Jane, Owen, Phoebe, and Declan. Everyone kept calling, she had to turn it off.

Her eyes were puffy, her hair was messy, she hadn't showered in days, and she was miserable. She had come to love Owen so much that it hurt. And what hurts the most is that she had so much faith in Owen.

When it happened with Adam, it didn’t hurt this much because she didn’t have as much trust in him as she did in Owen.

She thought Owen loved her; she thought he adored her so much.

The pang in her heart was unbearable, she felt her heart was about to drop to the ground. The pain was great because it was with Yvonne. Same Yvonne who has been giving her s**t for months. She felt like her life was annihilated.

After going ghost for three days she decided to turn on her phone, and the tons of notifications gave her a headache that she was tempted to turn the phone back off.

She sniffed and ignored all others and replied only to Declan.

“Hey..”

Immediately her text was sent, his call came in, as expected.

“Gosh, woman! Where in the world are you?” He yelled, and she answered immediately.

“I’m fine,” her voice was low.

“Oh my God! Have you been eating? Avery! What the hell.”

“Declan relax,” she forced a chuckle.

“No, you can’t be joking around with your health all because of Owen. C’mon, there were signs, I told you, Owen is different now. Even I, won’t forgive just like that, if you did that to me. He’s still mad at you, obviously.”

“I didn’t know, I thought he…he. Declan it was years ago,” she sniffed the tears that resumed running down her cheeks.

“Ave you should have known better. I know it hurts but get yourself together, stop the tears.”

“I can’t Declan, I’m trying trust me.”

“You need to try harder, get yourself together, and head back to work.”

“I can’t,” Avery squealed.

Declan exhaled deeply, running out of words.

“Avery, you can start by trying to eat something, and answer calls. It’s been almost a week, and this is crazy. I never knew you loved Owen this much, I thought you were just……..lonely.”

“No, I do love him. A lot!”

“You still love him?” Declan's questions didn’t get a response. “Fine, Phoebe is going crazy, call her and your mom too.”

“Yeah, I will.”

“And Ave,” he called before she could hang up. “Be fine.”

“Yes, I will.”

Immediately Declan’s call ended Phoebe’s call came in and she exhaled before answering.

“Oh good God, babes, I was almost on my way to Boston,” she cried.

“I’m fine,” Avery forced a smile.

“Oh my God, I don’t believe Owen did that! Jesus!”

“I can’t either,” Avery said, slipping her fingers and messing her hair even more.

“I’m so sorry girl, this is really bad.”

Avery could just smile at Phoebe’s words. “So where are you at now?”

“A hotel,” Avery muttered.

“Where’s it at?”

Avery paused and frowned. “Are you asking because you want to inform Owen?”

“No, hell no!” Phoebe half yelled.

Phoebe did a poor job of convincing her. “Phoebe?”

“I’m sorry,” she gave up. “Paxton made me ask you that,” she confessed.

“It’s alright, I need to shower,” Avery said, hanging up before she could say more.

Owen called so many times that day but she hadn't mustered the courage to speak to him just yet.

The next day she decided to answer his call but she didn’t dare to take her mother’s call or reply to her texts. She had no interest in what she had to say.

“Hello,” she placed the phone against her ear.

He was silent, she could hear his breath, but he said nothing. When she was about to hang up his voice came in.

“I thought I was going to die,” his voice hit her straight in the heart, now it was her turn to stay silent. “Punish me any other way but please, not like this…. Baby you…..

“You can’t call me that,” she forced her tiny voice to sound harsh.

“I know you hate me, and I hate myself even more. Just tell me anything, just tell me what you want I…..

“Owen, you had Yvonne bent over in your office, I don’t want anything from you,” Her rage didn’t soften.

“Forgive me, please,” that was all he could say.

“I need to get ready for work or have I lost my job along with my boyfriend?”

The words pierced Avery’s heart more than they did to Owen.

“You haven’t lost anything, you….

She hung up before he could say anything more. Was she ready to face him? No! But she had to move on, didn’t she?

*

Owen had been in the office for an hour now, anticipating Avery. He didn’t plan to make her uncomfortable by approaching her and apologizing, he just wanted to see her.

There was a knock on the door and he leaned back in the chair. “Come in,” his voice was grumpy.

“Sir,” her voice, her sight, irritated him to death.

“What?” He frowned.

“There are files that are supposed to be attended to by Miss Clark, can I hand them over……

“Get out!” He snapped.

“C’mon Owen, this isn’t the time to mix up business with personal stuff,” she rolled her eyes.

Owen had a deadpan expression, he exhaled getting his rage together. “Come here,” he cooed.

Yvonne didn’t expect that, but she flipped her hair and approached him anyway.

When she got to him, he ordered her to lean over l, gesturing with his fingers and she did. Suddenly he gripped her throat! Strangling her.

“Owen,” she struggled for air, slapping his hands off.

“From today I don’t want to see you anywhere around these premises. You’re fired!” He released her so forcefully that she almost fell to the ground.

“What the…..” she staggered, coughing and gagging for air. “You can’t fire me!”

“Say that again?” He growled.

*

“Belly,” Phoebe answered. “Watsup.”

“Yeah, how’s Avery? She didn’t answer my calls.”

“Nah, she’s good now. She has returned to work,” Phoebe waved dismissively.

“Oh thank goodness,” Belly exhaled. “Dating Owen was a wrong move, I hope she isn’t going to get back with him.”

“You don’t want them back?”

“No, I don’t see any chemistry there, but at the end of the day is her choice to make,” Belly blurted. “By the way, how's our little prince doing?”

“How do you know it's a prince just yet, it’s a princess,” Phoebe corrected.

“It has to be a prince. Your pregnancy was big news to me, I had thought you didn’t want a baby,” Belly stated the obvious.

“I’ve got bigger news,” Phoebe scooted on the couch.

“Hit me.”

“Owen is about to propose to Avery, I don't know what her response will be,” Phoebe squealed. “I’m nervous.”

Belly was quiet for a while, before she found her voice. “The same Owen who f**ked his ex?”

“Yeah, romantic right?”

“No, Phoebe! That’s psychotic! What’s your problem?” Belly was infuriated.

“I know it’s sudden and awkward but there’s this way Owen does things that just leaves me in awe,”

“Yes, like f**king Yvonne.”

“Hey, chill.”

“Girl I know you have always been team Owen, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t see the wrong in this. I don’t even think dating him is advisable! And you’re talking about marriage!” Belly voiced.

“Owen was wrong, but Avery hasn’t been any better. Just imagine if it were reversed. Avery caught him and he has been apologizing for days, but when she was caught she felt no remorse she went ahead to block him. Let’s agree that Avery did him dirty.”

“So you’re saying she deserves this?”

“No, I’m saying they’re a perfect fit!” Phoebe mouthed

“That’s stupid!” Belly blurted.

“You need to relax,” Phoebe rolled her eyes.

“And you think Avery will say yes?”

“We don’t know Belly, we don’t. There’s no harm in trying.”

*

Avery had her eyes focused on her job, ignoring the peering eyes of the staff that might have heard about her misfortune.

She ignored everyone and only spoke when necessary. She was returning to work after a week but no one asked why, they obviously knew which made it more embarrassing.

It appeared as if the reason for their constant fight was now obvious. Yvonne wasn’t at her desk, but Avery didn’t care, she thought maybe she had taken a day off.

It was a good thing that she wasn’t present, the smug grin on her face would have killed Avery.

After work was done, she took a cab home. Owen was only present in the morning, he left early at noon for the hospital like he always does.

He didn’t speak to her, he respected her warning to him. But he kept gazing at her whenever he walked past and Avery even saw him wink. She tried to stop her heart but it flustered anyway.

The cab arrived at her destination, Owen’s house, because she needed to grab some stuff she would be needing before heading back to the hotel.

Declan suggested she move out so he was currently searching for an apartment for her.

“Hey.”

The voice made her flinch. Her heart jumped when she saw him leaning against the wall, hands in the pockets of his sweat pants.

“I thought….you were at the hospital,” she stammered.

“No, I was home,” he tore away from the wall and approached her, his eyes holding hers. “How long should I wait? How long will it take for you to forgive me?” He whispered.

“Owen,” Avery exhaled. “I don’t think you should be asking me that.” She panted. “Owen Yvonne! Did you ever love?”

“Don’t do that, don’t question my feelings for you, don’t.”

“Well I have every reason to,” she tried to hold back her tears but it wasn’t working.

“What do you want me to do? Please Avery talk to me,” he tried to grab her hand but she moved back.

“Nothing Owen, just stay away from me,” she exhaled. “I don’t think I want to be your girlfriend anymore,” she added, headed for the stairs.

“I don’t want you to be my girlfriend either,” he yelled from behind and she halted on her track. “And I don’t want to be your boyfriend anymore.”

Avery snapped at him and her frown deepened when she found him on his knees. Before her brain could process it all he added.

“I want you to be my wife Avery Clark,” he slipped the little box from his pocket and Avery struggled to keep her foot steady. “And I, your husband,” he opened the box, revealing the diamond ring.

Avery took steps back, her brain going blank.

😜 Mr. ladies’ man 😎
__________

Avery gave a glance at the mirror before sauntering up to Owens' room, a broad smile plastered on her face. She hasn't felt so pretty her whole life, being Owens’ girlfriend gave her a unique glow.

“Hey,” she knocked on the door before pushing it open.

“Babe,’ came his sweet baritone.

“Going somewhere?” she stared at the flight ticket lying on the well-arranged bed.

“Yeah,’ he forced a smile, struggling with his necktie.

“Where?,” Avery stepped closer, helping him with the tie.

“Paris,’ he stared down as her fingers moved on his grey tie.

Avery stopped and looked up at him with her brows pinched. “Paris! Why?”

“The conference, you forgot already?” he chuckled, moving his arms around her tiny waist.

“I never knew it was in Paris, you didn't mention.”

“Why, missing me already,” he tickled her and her soft laughter filled the room.

“I left my wrist watch somewhere…..here,” she pushed him away, going to check the drawer.

Avery grimaced as she pulled out the drawer. “You have a gun?” she snapped at him.

Owen didn't say a word, he just shrugged.

“Why?” She moved away from the drawer and approached him.

“Babe chill, it's no big of a deal. It's from the government, for protection, not like I use it,” he rolled his eyes and she cocked her head, giving him the ‘really’ look.

“Stop that,’ he pulled her into his arms, as they both chuckled.

“Stuff like that reminds me of my mum,” she confessed as he laughed louder.

“I know my love, I know,”

*

Lately, Avery has been doing her best to ignore Yvonne, although Yvonne has made it almost impossible. She was always in Avery's business, trying her best to p**s her off. Avery wasn't dumb, Yvonne wasn't only jealous of her because of what happened in the past, she was obviously still into Owen, that was the case. In the past, she and Owen were already over before he asked her to be his girlfriend. The issue is not the past, it's the present. Avery knew she wanted her man.

“Can I get one?” Mark, a colleague, said to Avery, who was beside the coffee machine.

“Yeah, sure,” Avery smiled at him.

Avery walked towards her desk holding two coffee mugs in both her hands. Suddenly, Yvonne bumped into her, intentionally, spilling the cold coffee on her shirt and all over the floor.

The staff present ohhed and ahhed at the scene.

“I didn't see you, I'll get someone to clean that up.” She spared the messy floor a glance, about to walk past.

“Yvonne,” Avery called her attention before she could leave.

“I don't appreciate this, look at my dress, you couldn't even apologize. What the hell is your problem?” Abery`s tiny voice was laced with rage. She was done being patient.

“You want to fight?” Yvonne raised a brow, pleased that she was getting under her skin.

Avery glared for a while before taking a few steps forward, grabbing a half-empty coffee mug sitting on someone`s desk, and spilling the entire contents on her.

Gasps erupted in the hall. Everyone watched both ladies with piqued interest. It was an anticipated fight.

“Guys what's this?” Mark chipped in, knowing how unprofessional this was.

“Really?” Yvonne cocked her head in disbelief. “This is how you want to play? Cool,” she walked away and Avery headed to her desk, satisfied with her action. She had nothing to fear, she would explain the incident to Owen and he would understand. Yvonne was a bitch.

Avery wanted to ignore her buzzing phone, but her mom didn't call regularly, so she answered.

“Mom,” her voice was calm as she took her spot at her desk. She only hoped Jessica had something good to say.

"Phoebe is pregnant,” she announced and Avery gasped.

“Wow, I didn't expect her to….. Oh my god, this is great news,” Avery beamed, and was about to hang up so she could call Phoebe but her mom added.

“Why I'm telling you this is because you're not getting younger.”

“What? Mom, I'm 23,’ Avery grimaced.

“What`s Owen saying?” Jessica shunned the information.

“Mom, I'm sorry but my day is not going so well. I can't have the conversation, I need to call Phoebe,” she hung up with a frown.

The relationship was barely a month old, and she was already talking about marriage. Crazy.

*

Adam glared into the phone. “I'm warning you man, don't get my sister on a nine-month journey,”

“And if I do?” Spencer teased.

“Youre dead.”

“You grumpy lonely man,” Spencer laughed at his misery. “Still haven't found a French girlfriend? Is it so difficult?”

“I don't do girlfriends.”

“Oh, you no longer have to deceive women into thinking you love them before getting into their pants? That's an upgrade”

“Fool.”

“How are you preparing for the seasons?”

“Doing my best was up with Georgia and…….” The knock on the door interrupted him. “Come in”

His assistant walked in.

“Yeah watsup?,” Adam lifted a brow.

“A man came in and he is requesting to buy The Summer Night series.”

“All of them?,” Adam scowled.

“Yes.” He nodded.

“What?,” Adam muttered, confused.

“Is there a problem?” Spencer asked.

“Some want to buy an entire album,” Adam shared.

“Isn't that supposed to be great news?” Spencer's confusion was palpable

“These paintings are all the same, that's why it's called an album. Twenty pieces of the same picture,” Adam rose to his height.

“Oh, that's crazy. Maybe he plans on reselling it. Many people are crazy about your originals, I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happening.”

“Yeah I know but this one is different.”

“What do you mean different?”

“It's Avery,” Adam was too scared to say that aloud, so whispered.

“You painted her?” Spencer gasped. “And someone wants to buy all of her? Wait, is it Avery? Maybe the buyer is Avery. She might be too upset to come to you herself”

“I need to find out,” Adam ended the FaceTime and walked out, his strides impatient.

Arriving at the gallery he frowned at the person he saw.

“Its been a while,” the buyer smirked.

“Owen,” Adam spat, disappointed.

“Hi,” Owen grinned. “So are you selling? Your team has kept me for a while now,” he shrugged with his hands buried in his pocket.

Adam kept his gaze on him for a moment, then he swallowed thickly, struggling to ask the question. “Did she ask you to buy….

“No,” Owen interrupted. “She knows nothing about it.”

Adam took a few steps back, irritated by the sight of him. “You can buy, but not all,”

“I want all or nothing.”

“Then have nothing” Adam leveled his gaze.

“What are you so bitter about? The fact that I'm buying all the portraits of my girl or the fact that she doesn't know about this?”

“Don`t you have more important issues to worry about. I saw the news about your parents.”

Owen scoffed.. “It's illegal to go around painting people without their consent, you know?”

“And you think I don't have her consent?’

Adam's words made Owen speechless, he just stared at him with a smirk.

“Why are you here?” Adam dropped his shoulders with a sigh.

“To buy a portrait of my girl.”

“Your girl? Is she really yours?,” Adam shuffled steps closer to him. “Because if she's really yours, you won't travel across the seas just to prove that. What? Do you want confirmation? Are you scared that history would repeat itself? You think that highly of me?”

Owen's hands were clenched, his knuckles white, as he struggled to maintain a straight face as he stared at Adam.

“By the way, does your girl know? That you killed Zed?” Adam continued.

“That is a solid accusation. Any proof?”

Adam tilted his head with arched brows. “Did you really do it?”

*

“Is she really yours?”

Those words played in Owens' head as he slammed into her from behind.

He grabbed a handful of her hair, f**king her hard while she held the desk with both hands, watching her scream like a slut.

“Oh f**k Owen,” she cried.

“She`s mine, all mine,” he growled, thrusting harder.

“You`re back!” The door flew open.

“Ave,” Owen hurriedly pulled out, panting, eyes wide.

Avery's eyes darted from Owen who was sticking his dick back in his pants to Yvonne who remained in the position she was being f**ked just to spite her.

All of a sudden, Avery lost her breath. She was unable to breathe.

💏CHAPTER 74🍆

An original story written by:
ANITA JERRY 🪄

😜 Mr. ladies’ man 😎
__________

Avery writhed on the bed and squeezed her eyes before slowly opening them.

She wasn’t in her room; she was sure of that. The scent made it easy for her to tell the person’s room she was in.

Her sleepy eyes met his dark ones, which were watching her as if she were the only thing on earth.

Her heart skipped a beat as she tore her eyes away from his gaze. Ashamed of her morning look and her messy hair.

“Morning,” she muttered trying to fix her hair the best way he could.

“Morning,” his words dripped smoothly like honey into her ears. “How did you sleep?” He asked as she sat up on the bed.

“Fine,” that was the only thing Abery could say.

She couldn’t believe it, she fell from her throne of pride. She was stupid and now it was obvious he was just using her because he knew the effect he had on her.

“Would have made you breakfast but I can’t cook to save my dear life,” he sighed.

This was what Avery couldn’t fathom. He was good at confusing the hell out of her. What exactly did he want from her?

“What’s the time?” She ignored him, trying to climb out of bed.

“Who cares,” he gripped her wrist before she could leave the bed.

“Owen, I have to get to work.”

“And I’m your boss,” his tone was condescending.

“It’s barely two weeks, I don’t want to start skipping days and making the rumors true.”

“What rumors?” He grimaced.

“That we’re….. that you favor me and all that nonsense stuff,” she stammered.

“Are they lies?” He drew closer.

“Owen stop!” She squealed and he chuckled.

“Don’t go today, please,” he said, circling his thumb around her hand in his grip.

Avery's brain urged her to ask the almighty question. This was the time.

“And what would I be doing?” She asked instead of ‘What are we doing?’

“Just let me be the host, will you?” He winked.

“Really?” Avery couldn’t help but smile. “Can you give me an idea of what you’re ‘hosting’?”

“I will, on one condition.”

“I’m listening,” she turned to face him.

“Shower with me,” he whispered and Avery lost her composure, her heart palpitated and her cheeks flushed.

“No,” that came out weaker than she wanted it to.

“Why no?” He continued whispering, moving closer, burying his head in her neck, taking in her scent.

“Owen.”

He could hear the heavy sound of her pounding heart. The fact that he had such an effect on her made his dick twitch.

“Do you love me?” The question left Avery’s mouth before she could stop it.

She’s done trying to keep her freaking pride, she would have this conversation with him. She would have it with him.

“For someone so smart as you,” he planted soft kisses on her neck. “That’s a dumb question to ask.”

He scooped her up and rose to his feet.

“Owen!” She chuckled, taken aback by his actions.

“Let’s shower baby, I won’t be naughty,” he continued kissing her neck as he made his way to the bathroom.

“You won’t?” Avery moved back and stared at him incredulously.

“I won’t make any promises,” he chuckled.

After their time in the shower, of course, they didn’t just shower. Owen drove her to a restaurant. He was hosting as he promised.

They had good food and after that he offered to take her to the cinema. A lot changed about him, but the fact that he was a gentle man remained the same.

“What are we watching?” Avery let him lead her into the cinema, his hand holding hers.

“Movie,” he muttered.

“I know it’s a movie, which movie?” She chuckled.

“Patience baby, you’ll find out,” he led her in, holding her hand.

“You rented the entire place?” She grinned at the empty hall.

“Mhm-mhm,” he led her to sit and sat right next to her. “Ready?” He whispered, pressing his lips on her cheek.

“Yes,” she clapped her hands in excitement, keeping the popcorn aside.

“You’re so pretty,” he lounged back on the seat.

She beamed at him and looked ahead as the movie was just about to begin.

“I don’t like horror,” she pointed out.

“Maybe this is a horror you might like,” he shrugged and her eyes widened staring at the screen with anticipation.

There was a little thing at the beginning before the words came out in bold capital letters.

WILL YOU BE MY GIRLFRIEND?

It dawned on Avery. There was no movie.

Avery froze in her seat, she wasn’t expecting this. She hasn't felt so loved in her entire life.

Her eyes watered as she turned to him, but he wasn’t looking at her. He was gazing forward, with a straight face.

“I was scared,” he began. “I’m still scared, so think carefully before giving me a response.”

“Scared of what?” Avery’s smile wiped off.

“Adam,” he curtly replied. “And before you go on and tell me how you’ve moved on, I just need you to know that….” He exhaled. “You hurt me, real bad. I was broken, I lost myself, I cried.”

“Owen I…..

“The fact that I can’t even have the conversation is because I’m not over the pain, I can’t ever get over it. Even as I speak my chest hurts so bad,” a tear escaped Avery’s eyes.

She was a fool. She was sure of that. Dumping a man like Owen for someone like Adam, what was she thinking? She could only blame it on her age back then. She was eighteen and ignorant. Carried away by his looks and popularity. A naive fool.

“I’m so…..

“I don’t need you to say that, there’s nothing to be sorry about. I know you’re not sorry. If he didn’t dump you know I still wouldn’t have had a chance to say this.”

“That’s a lie!”

“You wiped me out of your life like I was never there,” he continued. “You blocked me. I kept thinking of what I did. Where did I go wrong? I was confused. I hated Adam, I still hate him; but you, I don’t Avery I can’t, I just can’t think clearly when it comes to you. I can’t get you out of my system. It was hell even if we dated for many weeks and didn’t even have s*x. This time,” he stopped to gaze at her.

“I love you so much,” he held her face and she leaned closer, crying. “But I won’t let it pass, I won’t let it happen this time. I won’t easily back down this time. If you say yes, I will never let you go, for anything dead or alive, so I want you to…..

“Yes!” Avery didn’t put his words into proper consideration. “Adam was a stupid college fling made to be my greatest teenage mistake, what are humans without mistakes? But you know you have always been the one, there was not a time I stopped loving, Owen Smith. I will be your girlfriend or anything else you want me to be. I’m yours.”

“You’re mine” He breathed on her face, inching closer. “You’re mine!” He said more firmly this time, capturing her lips in a possessive kiss, claiming her, all of her.

*

Phoebe strolled to the door at the sound of the doorbell. Her brows pinched together. “Declan?”

“Is Debby here?” He didn’t bother to greet her.

“No,” Phoebe threatened to close the door on his face but he forced his way in, brushing past her.

“Hey!” Phoebe yelled.

“Don’t do that to my wife like that,” Paxton warned from where he was sitting.

“Shut your mouth,” Declan snapped at him looking around. “Where’s she?”

“Careful man, you’re my house,” Paxton added and Declan raised a brow.

“So good to hear a threat from a child like you,” he scoffed. “You and your wife, who's older?” He lifted a brow.

“See why Debby left,” Paxton scoffed. “Phoebe has never left, it’s been three years,” he bragged and scoffed.

“Good for you, now where’s Debby?”

“Asleep,” Phoebe barked. “Let her rest.”

“Why is she being difficult,” he plopped onto the chair.

“Because you’re dick,” Phoebe pointed, taking the spot next to Paxton.

“Thanks for the information,” Declan leaned into the chair.

“How’s Alexa?” Paxton asked.

“In Georgia, with Spencer, for the weekend,” Declan exhaled.

“We heard about the transfers my Dad is doing, Owen isn’t having it,” Paxton chuckled.

“The earlier he has it the better for him. He should stick to Boston, he can’t have it all,” Declan was taking Gregory’s side as expected.

“But he’s handing Paxton and Owen just a little, it’s unfair,” Phoebe hissed.

“I don’t even know what the meaning of all this is, not like he’s dying,” Paxton grouched.

“He’s doing it to spite your mum and maybe appease Nicole, I guess,” Phoebe blurted.

“Gregory had always liked Adam and Alexa more than you and your brother, don’t act like you don’t know,” Declan blunted.

“Not like I care,” Paxton rolled his eyes.

“That’s aside,” Phoebe clapped her hands. “The latest couple in town is…..?”

“Owen and Avery?” Paxton beamed and Phoebe jumped.

“Yes babe, that was brilliant,” Phoebe jumped on him as they giggled loudly.

“Wait? Owen asked Avery out again? I didn’t see that happening, I thought they were just going to fling,” Declan didn’t look happy to hear this news.

“Fling?” Phoebe furrowed. “He is a responsible man, unlike…..

“Adam,” Paxton completed and they laughed.

“Hahaha funny,” Declan didn’t look amused. “This is beginning to seem more like an obsession than love.”

“What’s your problem?” Phoebe frowned.

“You don’t want them together?” Paxton shared Phoebe’s displeased expression.

“Not like I don’t, but….” He scratched the back of his neck. “Zed died, he was shot.”

“Well his death was long overdue,” Phoebe already heard the news.

“Not that, Jessica didn’t kill him, I’m sure of it.”

“You think Owen did?” Paxton queried.

“So what’s the big case if he did?” Phoebe challenged.

“The problem is that he’s denying it, he’s lying to Avery,” Declan half yelled. “I don’t know if y’all are blind to it but I don’t think Owen is the same, something is off with him.”

“Hey chill man,” Paxton chuckled nervously. “My brother is fine, he just grew up and learned to love the hard way. You don't know how much he suffered after what your brother and Avery did to him.”

“That’s the point!” Declan snapped his fingers. “Did he actually forgive Avery? Enough to ask her out again?”

“Unlike Adam, his love is unconditional, it doesn't change or fluster!” Phoebe voiced and Declan lifted his hand in surrender.

“I wish Owen had asked me out instead,” Debby emerged from the stairs, lighting up the atmosphere. “I’m tired of this asshole.”

She squealed and they all laughed.

“Please let’s go home,” Declan chuckled.

*

Gregory put the newspaper down at the chiming sound of his phone. His forehead creased on seeing the caller.

“Owen?” His voice wasn’t so friendly.

“Dad,” came his baritone.

“Anything you need?”

Owen was used to his aloof nature so he didn’t care.

“What’s this rubbish going on?” His voice sounded a little disrespectful. Gregory didn’t respond. “If you want a divorce, please do so. What’s with the drama?”

“Drama? You have the wrong person if you want to talk about drama.”

“You want to disrespect my mother, you want to make her suffer?”

“You don’t want to know the number of people your mother has made to suffer,” Gregory sneered.

“Listen Dad, I’ve been ignoring how much of a s**tty father you’ve been to Paxton and me. Disregarding us and chasing after children who hate you to death. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t let you disrespect my mother. So sit back and think carefully about your decision. I’m not Adam, I won’t just punch you in the face, goodnight.”

The call disconnected before Gregory could even say a word. He couldn’t even speak, he was dumbstruck. He looked to confirm if this was actually Owen.

“How dare he,” Gregory growled.
