ASUWAHC Intensifies Water Reforms as Onitsha Zone Records Major Progress

The Anambra State Urban Water Assets Holding Corporation (ASUWAHC) is strengthening water infrastructure reforms across the state, with its third management meeting introducing key strategies while the Onitsha Zone reports major progress in restoring vital water facilities.

At the meeting, the Officer-in-Charge emphasized accountability through directives on inspections of major water schemes, weekly reports, customer database expansion, public awareness campaigns, and implementation of the Water Master Plan.

Zonal heads were directed to improve inspections, issue consumer notices, and strengthen customer relations, while departments were tasked with enhancing efficiency and regulatory compliance.

In Onitsha Zone, rehabilitation work has advanced across the Terminal Reservoir/Army Barracks, Crash Program Owelle Ebo, and G.R.A Package System.

Ovaman Pumps Limited has successfully repaired Boreholes 6 and 7, while Borehole 5 is close to reactivation, boosting water production capacity. Environmental sanitation challenges at the Crash Program site are also being addressed.

Power supply remains a challenge, as some boreholes still rely heavily on solar energy, increasing the need for sustainable electricity solutions.

Birsa Water Limited has resumed operations at the G.R.A Package System by reconnecting boreholes to the national grid, though power surge incidents and incomplete distribution networks continue to limit full performance.

Management has urged both vendors to improve efficiency, resolve power challenges, and ensure reliable water supply.

These reforms and rehabilitation efforts highlight ASUWAHC’s commitment to restoring urban water infrastructure, improving service delivery, and expanding sustainable water access across Anambra State.
