We Must Work 24/7 to Create a Livable Environment for Ndị Anambra — Dr. Clem Aguiyi Charges Staff
By Kennedy Aniedozie
The newly inaugurated Commissioner for Environment in Anambra State, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has charged staff of the Ministry to rededicate themselves towards building a cleaner, safer, and more livable environment for Ndi Anambra.
Dr. Aguiyi gave the charge as he officially assumed duties at the Ministry of Environment, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, stressing that workers must embrace a new work ethic in line with the vision of the Solution Government led by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The Commissioner was received by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Tochukwu Obodogha, alongside Directors and Heads of Departments, who conducted him round the office complex.
Addressing staff during an interactive session, Dr. Aguiyi said the Ministry must operate with a renewed sense of commitment and urgency to achieve the environmental transformation agenda of the state government.
“We must work 24/7 to create a livable environment for Ndi Anambra. Our attitude to work must change if we truly want to move with the mantra of the Solution Government. It will no longer be business as usual,” he stated.
He noted that although the state government has embarked on massive road infrastructure development across the state, environmental decay and unhealthy human activities such as indiscriminate er****on of shanties and unauthorized mechanic workshops in city centres continue to undermine the state’s development efforts.
According to him, proactive enforcement measures would be introduced to reclaim and beautify urban areas across the state.
The Commissioner further described erosion as an existential threat to the state, assuring that strategic measures contained in his blueprint would be deployed to tackle erosion and flooding challenges.
“There will be massive sensitization of the people at the grassroots level, while all stakeholders must be involved in the drive to save our state from erosion and flooding. We must take ownership of our environment and become environmentally friendly,” he added.
Dr. Aguiyi also encouraged staff to come up with innovative ideas and practical solutions capable of moving the Ministry forward and actualizing the vision of making Anambra State the “African Dubai-Taiwan.”
“Our goal is to make our people take ownership of their environment,” he emphasized.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tochukwu Obodogha, appreciated the Commissioner for his commitment and assured him of the staff’s full cooperation in achieving the vision of a cleaner and livable Anambra State.
He described Anambra as “a destination point and not a junction.”
The interactive session featured a question-and-answer segment involving senior civil servants, drivers, cleaners, and other members of staff of the Ministry.
