Earlier on Tuesday, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, received a delegation of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) on a courtesy visit to his office, where he reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through strategic collaboration with private medical practitioners.

During the meeting, the Commissioner announced that the Ministry of Health would, by December 2026, prohibit the training and use of auxiliary nurses in all health facilities across the state. He explained that the Colleges of Health Technology at Ovrode and Ofuoma run accredited programmes that provide trainees with the requisite qualifications to practise legally, and urged aspiring healthcare professionals to enrol in recognised training institutions.

Responding to concerns raised by members of the Association over the issue of multiple taxation affecting private medical practitioners, Dr. Onojaeme constituted a committee to review the matter, engage relevant stakeholders, and recommend practical measures to harmonise tax obligations and eliminate the burden of multiple taxation.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to sustained collaboration with private healthcare providers and other critical stakeholders to strengthen the health sector, enhance service delivery, and ensure that residents of Delta State have access to safe, ethical, and quality healthcare services.

The Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP), formerly known as the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), is the umbrella body for medical and dental practitioners in private practice in Nigeria.

The courtesy visit formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration with the Ministry of Health and foster strategic partnerships aimed at improving healthcare service delivery across Delta State.
