Having our Disability bill passed as law on Wednesday 31st August, 2022 is a thing of great joy, it took us a trip down memory lane by the time Hon. Chidi Topaz Olujie came out to contest for the House of Assembly; one of his aims was to ensure the passage of the Abia State Disability Bill in the Abia State House of Assembly due to his undying love for his People and the Disability community at large.
It happened sometime in 2019 that both Hon Paul Taribo and Hon Chidi met together and they both spent good time discussing on the way forward. Among the discussion, hon chidi appealed to him with a special request to ensure the passage of the Abia State Disability Bill into law.
As a matter of necessity and urgency, (Hon. Taribo) promised to do that one request and asked Hon. Chidi to compile & submit the bill stating areas of utmost attention. After submitting the bill (sample) to him. He (Hon Taribo) sponsored the bill to fulfill his promise.
During Hon. Chidi's 2020 birthday celebration doubles as the 2020 Ukwa East Youth Empowerment project sponsored by Hon. Chidi, Hon Taribo was present during the celebration and presented a file containing a copy of the Abia State Disability Bill as a gift for his (Hon Chidi) birthday, which has scaled through 2nd reading in the Abia State House of Assembly (see photos).
Disability Bill has been one of the main talk of the Disability community for years as they struggled to see their demands on the passage of Disability bill is made into law. In recent times, different set of individuals with Disabilities, disabled organisations, and other advocacy agencies including our Abia State First Lady have been urging the House of Assembly to pass it into law.
Fast forward, Today was the greatest news when the bill got passed into law. Hon Taribo, as usual, reached Hon. Chidi recently to inform him of this great feat.
This calls for a great celebration for Abians and Nigerians generally.
