Federal Fire Service Ondo State Command Holds In-house lectures on "Center Point Of The Inspectorate, Investigation and Enforcement."

The Federal Fire Service, Ondo State Command, held its weekly Monday in-house lecture today at the Command Headquarters, focusing on the critical synergy within Inspectorate, Investigation, and Enforcement (IIE).

The session opened with a comprehensive presentation by ASF II Ifatujosin, who led the introductory segment. He discussed the "Inspectorate" as the first line of defense, emphasizing that routine and unannounced inspections of schools, markets, and fuel stations serve as the essential baseline for fire prevention.

Wrapping up the technical session, the Head of Department, DSF Adegoke, underscored the "Center Point" of the three units. He noted that while inspection prevents and investigation proves liability after an incident, enforcement ensures that the law has "teeth." He maintained that an effective fire officer must balance all three components to ensure public safety and legal accountability.

In his closing remarks, the State Controller, ACF Oyedepo Moses commended the personnel for their impressive turnout. The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ondo State Command, under the leadership of State Controller ACF Oyedepo Moses, received a high-level officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.

The INEC officials, led by the newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke, was warmly received by the State Controller and his management team. The visit aimed to reinforce inter-agency cooperation and ensure a secure environment for upcoming electoral activities. The engagement focused on strengthening partnerships, with discussions centered on deepening the existing synergy between the Federal Fire Service and INEC to safeguard personnel, infrastructure, and sensitive materials.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE ONDO COMMAND STRENGTHENS TIES WITH CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA (CBN) TO BOLSTER FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION.

In a strategic move to enhance safety protocols and safeguard national assets, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ondo State Command, led by the State Controller, ACF Moses Oyedepo, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Akure Branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) today. The visit centered on fostering a robust partnership between the two institutions to ensure a fire-resilient environment within the banking sector and the state at large.

During the meeting, ACF Moses Oyedepo emphasized the importance of proactive collaboration. He formally proposed a partnership focusing on regular practical exercises to ensure staffs readiness during emergencies. Collaborative efforts in organizing lectures and sensitization programs to educate the community.

The Branch Controller of CBN, Mr Aina O.A in his response, commended the Federal Fire Service for its consistent and professional engagement with the bank. The Federal Fire Service, Ondo State Command, today joined the global community to observe International Firefighters’ Day. The event served as a profound tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of fire service personnel who risk their lives daily to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The day’s activities commenced with a spirited road walk involving the entire staff of the Command. This exercise underscored the importance of physical fitness and mental resilience in the firefighting profession. Following the walk, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held to honor the "Fallen Heroes"—firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty within Ondo State and across the world.

The Federal Fire Service joined other agencies and stakeholders at the swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch A, Stream II, of prospective corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ikare Akoko.

The exercise, which began at 9:00 a.m., brought together key government officials and dignitaries. The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, was represented by honorable commissioner for youth and Sports Development, Hon. Segun Henry Omoyofunmi alongside service chiefs and other stakeholders.

The State Controller ACF Oyedepo Moses, represented by DSF Okiemute Isaac, appreciated the management of the noble scheme for its excellent service to the nation toward building a more united Nigeria. He further admonished both corps members to adhere strictly to fire safety measures during their service year and throughout the orientation course, particularly prevention measures, as it is usually better than managing actual incidents. In addition, he advised everyone present to have the emergency line saved in their phones, as this will enhance communication in the event of an incident and also reduce response time because every second counts during an emergency, especially since the Federal Fire Service has stations located in the three senatorial districts of the state.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE ONDO STATE COMMAND STRENGTHENS OPERATIONAL READINESS THROUGH INTENSIVE IN-HOUSE LECTURE SERIES

In a bid to maintain peak tactical efficiency and ensure the highest standards of public safety, the State Command, through its Training and Development Unit, held its weekly Monday in-house lecture series today, April 27, 2026. The session, titled "The Core of All Firefighting Activities: Why Every Fireman Must Possess Operational Skills," served as a high-level refresher on the non-negotiable technical proficiencies required of modern first responders.

The training session featured key leadership and seasoned officers who underscored the reality that firefighting is a profession where theoretical knowledge must be seamlessly integrated with practical mastery—anchored on safety, speed, and the “no specialist” mandate.

The first speaker, ASF II Ajayi Yetunde, opened the lecture by highlighting five critical pillars of operational excellence. She emphasized that safety is the bedrock of the profession, noting that mastery of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), hose handling, and ladder work is essential for survival in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health environments.

“Fire doubles in size every 30 to 60 seconds,” ASF II Ajayi Yetunde stated, stressing that speed is the difference between a save and a tragedy. She challenged the notion of over-specialization, asserting that in the heat of operations, “there is no specialist; every officer must possess every skill.” She concluded by noting that teamwork and public trust rely entirely on the individual competence of every crew member, as unpredictable fire behavior may require any officer to step into any role at a moment’s notice.

Expanding on the technical requirements, the State Operations Commander and Head of Operations, SF Ajayi Somi Joshua, delivered an in-depth analysis of the physical and mental demands of the job. He clarified that the Fire Service is a calling for the dedicated, stating firmly, “The Fire Service is not for poverty alleviation; it is for service.”

SF Ajayi Somi Joshua detailed the complexities of tactical ventilation; the systematic removal of smoke to increase visibility and facilitate rescue; while warning against the dangers of improper airflow, which can lead to flashovers or backdrafts.

He also emphasized mental and physical fitness, stressing that even the best Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is ineffective if the firefighter is not physically fit and mentally alert. He further highlighted the importance of the ability to observe and analyze a building to determine the most appropriate extinguishing agent and to manage hazardous materials effectively.

In her closing remarks, Head of Watchroom, SF Awosika, representing the State Controller, lauded the facilitators and participating officers. She urged all personnel to adopt a mindset of “learning and re-learning,” emphasizing that the landscape of firefighting is constantly evolving. She encouraged officers to proactively equip themselves with new knowledge to remain the elite first responders the public deserves. FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE PARTICIPATES IN PUBLIC DESTRUCTION OF SEIZED DRUGS IN ONDO STATE

The Ondo State Command of the Federal Fire Service, led by the State Controller, ACF Oyedepo Moses, joined other security agencies and stakeholders at the public destruction of 83.35 tonnes of seized illicit drugs carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The exercise, which began at 10:00 a.m., brought together key government officials and dignitaries. The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, was represented by his Deputy, Olayide Adelami, alongside service chiefs and other stakeholders.

The event opened with brief introductions and a short awareness session on the dangers of drug abuse. Speakers highlighted how substance abuse continues to fuel crime and affect families and communities, stressing the need for collective action.

The NDLEA State Commander, CN Nanzing Salah Daniel, appreciated the support of the state government and partner agencies. He also commended the efforts of NDLEA officers, noting that the volume of drugs destroyed 83.35 tonnes is the largest ever recorded by the command, achieved within a short period through sustained operations.

The Deputy Governor, while addressing attendees, acknowledged the work of the NDLEA and reassured of the government’s continued support in the fight against drug-related crimes.

As part of the process, samples of the seized substances were tested at the venue and confirmed before destruction.

The exercise was then carried out under close supervision, with the Deputy Governor and heads of security agencies present.

The Federal Fire Service played a key role in ensuring the exercise was conducted safely, providing the necessary support to manage the process and prevent any hazards.

INAUGURATION OF FIRE OFFICERS’ WIVES ASSOCIATION (FOWA), ONDO STATE CHAPTER

The Federal Fire Service, Ondo State Command, has officially inaugurated the Fire Officers’ Wives Association (FOWA), Ondo State Chapter, in a ceremony attended by the State Controller, ACF Oyedepo Moses, members of the management team, and wives of officers within the command.

The initiative, championed by the National President; Mrs. Olumode Olufunke, wife of the Controller General, is aimed at fostering unity, support, and welfare among the families of fire service personnel in the state and across the federation.

The event began with the introduction of officers’ wives, followed by the rendition of the FOWA anthem.

In her opening address, the Chairperson of the association, Mrs. Oyedepo Kehinde, emphasized the importance of the platform as more than just a group, describing it as “a family built on shared purpose.”
She noted that FOWA is designed to promote mutual support, encourage the sharing of experiences, and strengthen bonds among members, while contributing positively to their homes and communities. She further highlighted that the association will serve as a foundation for growth, empowerment, and collective progress.

“Behind every dedicated fire officer is a strong and supportive partner,” she stated. "FOWA seeks to reinforce that support system, build unity among us, and create opportunities for development and mutual assistance.”

During the inauguration, the mandate of the association was clearly outlined, and newly elected executives were introduced. Meeting schedules and dress codes were also agreed upon to ensure structure and active participation.
