Exercise CAMP HIGHLAND: Cadets Embark on Leadership and Adventure Training
As part of the comprehensive training program for Exercise CAMP HIGHLAND, Army Cadets from the 71 Regular Course and Direct Short Service Course 28 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are currently undergoing a week-long leadership and adventure training package at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Mountain School, Shere Hills, Lamingo, Plateau State.
Themed "Instilling Leadership Skills and Survival Strategies for Effective Performance of Duty," the training aims to equip cadets with additional leadership skills, self-survival strategies, and essential qualities such as self-discipline, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance. This will enable them to render selfless service to the nation upon commissioning into the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
The cadets are engaging in a range of challenging activities, including:
- Rock Scrambling and Abseiling of the Gog and Magog rocks
- Parachute Jump
- Assault Course
- Rafting
- Mapping exercises (1 and 2)
- Team Building exercises
Senior officers from NDA, including Brigadier General OA Awolo (Director of Military Training), Colonel MS Jaafar (Chief Instructor of the Army Wing), and Lieutenant Colonel AM Gidado (Acting Chief Instructor of the Basic Officer Training Wing), attended the event. Instructors from both NDA and the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center are providing guidance and mentorship throughout the training.
This comprehensive training package is designed to consolidate leadership skills acquired in military training and instill national core values towards nation building, as the cadets prepare to perform their constitutional responsibilities as members of the AFN. Exercise CAMP HIGHLAND is expected to have a profound impact on the cadets' development, equipping them with the mindset required to excel in their duties and lead their troops effectively.
