The Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture (BBYA) programme is redefining agribusiness for Ekiti’s young people. Designed to tackle youth unemployment and strengthen food security, the initiative equips participants with practical farming skills, access to cleared land, mechanised tools, training, and reliable market linkages.

With over 5,000 youths engaged across 13 clusters, BBYA has already delivered remarkable results. Participants have collectively earned millions from their harvests, proof that agriculture in Ekiti is not just a livelihood, but a thriving economic opportunity.

To support their success, the state government has built modern Renewed Hope Farm Dormitories across five farm clusters, complete with solar power, boreholes, and security, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for young farmers.

As the programme expands to include solar-powered modular irrigation systems, Ekiti is paving the way for year-round farming and greater productivity.

Ekiti’s youth are not just returning to the farms, they’re building a stronger, more prosperous future.

Ekiti State is set to host agricultural stakeholders from across the South-West for the Lowland Rainforest Agro-Ecological Zone Workshop, a strategic gathering aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s food systems.

Convened under the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit (PFSFU) as part of the Sustainable Agricultural Value-Chains for Growth (AGROW) Programme, the workshop will bring together experts, value-chain players, and development partners to review and validate interventions that will drive food security, enhance rural livelihoods, and boost agricultural competitiveness.

With representatives from Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, and Ekiti States, this one-day workshop underscores a shared commitment to sustaining growth and strengthening value chains across Nigeria’s agro-ecological zones.

EBOPS COHORT 3 : PRODUCTION COMMENCES WITH 25,000 BROILERS

Just one week after the successful onboarding of our 3rd EBOPS (Ekiti Broiler Production Scheme) cohort, participants commenced the raising of 25,000 broilers to table size this morning at the designated production facilities in Erinfun (11,000), Ilupeju (10,000) and Technical College, Ado Ekiti (4,000). This determined group of young agripreneurs has demonstrated exceptional commitment and is strategically positioned to surpass all benchmarks established by previous cohorts. Their early momentum and dedication signal a promising production cycle ahead.

With the production timeline extending through the end of December, these young farmers have embraced the challenge of working through the holiday season to ensure optimal results. Their sacrifice and work ethic exemplify the impact of the EBOPS initiative in creating sustainable livelihoods and building a new generation of commercial poultry farmers in Ekiti State. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security remains committed to providing support, training, and resources to ensure the success of this cohort. The remaining centers will be activated in January 2026.

Ekiti State continues to strengthen food security through strategic investments in its Cluster Farm System. By organising farmers into well-coordinated clusters, the state is boosting productivity, ensuring better land utilisation, and expanding access to modern agricultural support services.

From the 206-hectare Eporo Farm Cluster, which focuses on maize and cassava, to the Ikere Cluster, which specialises in yams and melons, and the Aramoko-Erio Cluster, which cultivates horticultural crops, Ekiti is creating a structured ecosystem that enables farmers to thrive, increase yields, and contribute to a more sustainable agricultural economy.

Youths participating in the Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture (BBYA) initiative, in collaboration with YSJ Ltd Ado Farm Cluster, have begun threshing their maize harvest.

BBYA is a government-supported program designed to empower young people with practical agricultural skills, create employment opportunities, and strengthen local food systems. By engaging youths directly in farming activities, the program not only addresses youth unemployment but also contributes to national food security and economic growth.

Through a partnership with YSJ Ltd, Ilu Eye Agro Trading and Aggregation Company will purchase maize, rice, garri, and soybean oil produced by the participating youths, ensuring market access and a sustainable income for young farmers.

As post-harvest activities progress across other clusters, we will continue to showcase the transformative impact of government-led initiatives in modernising agriculture, supporting local economies, and inspiring the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.

We celebrate the remarkable work being done at Promise Point, a woman-led cassava innovation hub that is transforming the agricultural landscape and empowering smallholder farmers across our state.

Promise Point has introduced a groundbreaking technology that analyses cassava seeds within and outside the local government, ensuring farmers receive high-quality, high-yield varieties. This innovation is helping smallholder farmers increase productivity and gain real economic value from their efforts.

Although Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of cassava, only about 10% of this output is processed, contributing to a supply gap of over 500,000 metric tonnes. Promise Point is playing a crucial role in bridging this gap by supporting farmers, strengthening the cassava value chain, and boosting local economic growth.

From their advanced seed-analysis laboratory to a fully automated steam boiler room and a state-of-the-art triple-nozzle separator, their operations reflect a commitment to quality, efficiency, and innovation.

We applaud Promise Point for its dedication to empowering farmers, advancing food security, and setting a new standard for cassava processing in Nigeria. Their work is a shining example of how technology and innovation can drive sustainable development and economic empowerment for our people.

The Ekiti State Broilers Production Scheme (EBOPS) is a youth empowerment initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, designed to train and support young people interested in poultry production.

Here is the recruitment process for the 3rd cohort, which has commenced with screening, examinations, and onboarding of successful applicants.

About 250 youths will be onboarded and allocated into 9 clusters:

1. Erinfun
2. Ikole
3. Ilupeju
4. Ido
5. Technical college
6. Ode
7. Efon
8. Ikere
9. Igede

Contracts have been awarded for the construction of 20,000 pen capacity in each senatorial district of Ado, Ikole and Emure Ekiti.

Our target is to have more than 100,000 birds per cycle as of 2026, and by then, the Poultry Processing Plant will have been completed.

Commercial Livestock Development and Trade between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Morocco

The Minister of Livestock Development, Mr Idi Mukhtar Maiha, alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ekiti State, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Morocco, Alhaji Adamu Salihu Zanuwa, participated in a high-level bilateral meeting in Rabat with the Moroccan Minister of Agriculture.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in livestock production, enhancing the livestock value chain, and expanding trade opportunities between both nations. These engagements align with the broader objectives of the South–South Development Initiatives, which promote knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships among developing countries.

These efforts are further backed by the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), which is driving reforms aimed at improving resilience, market integration, and value addition across Nigeria’s livestock sector.
