Today, January 28, 2025, the Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Regulatory Agency (EK-WASRA) team paid a courtesy visit to the Regional Office of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in Ekiti State. The visit served as a strategic step towards fostering collaboration with critical stakeholders in the shared commitment to ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality water to the people of Ekiti State.
The delegation from EK-WASRA, led by its General Manager, Engr. Osalade Ayodele, emphasized the agency’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with regulatory and standards-setting bodies like SON to uphold global best practices in water quality management. The visit provided an avenue to exchange ideas and explore synergies aimed at achieving sustainable water supply systems that adhere to national and international standards.
During the meeting, the SON Ekiti State Head, Engr Sangosanya T.O. expressed appreciation for EK-WASRA’s proactive approach to stakeholder engagement. The head highlighted SON's role in setting and enforcing standards across industries and reiterated the organization's readiness to collaborate with EK-WASRA in ensuring that water suppliers in Ekiti State meet regulatory requirements.
Discussions during the visit revolved around joint initiatives such as capacity building for water providers, staff, routine monitoring, testing of water quality, accreditation of Laboratory and awareness campaigns to educate the public on the importance of clean and safe water. Both parties agreed on the need to strengthen enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance with water quality standards and promote accountability among service providers.
This visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership between EK-WASRA and SON, which is expected to significantly enhance water governance and improve access to safe drinking water across Ekiti State. The collaboration underscores a shared vision of safeguarding public health through the provision of clean and reliable water services.
As the visit concluded, both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address challenges in the water and sanitation sector, ensuring that every citizen of Ekiti State has access to safe water that meets the highest standards.
