FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, EKITI COMMAND RECEIVES NEMA ON COURTESY VISIT

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ekiti State, today paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ekiti State Command at its Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.

Leading the NEMA delegation was Mr Olanrewaju Kazeem Akinade, the Head of Operations, NEMA Ekiti State. He was received by the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, DCF Olatunji Olumide James, alongside his management team.

In his welcome address, the State Controller, DCF Olatunji, expressed delight at the visit and commended NEMA for its proactive role in disaster risk reduction in the state. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) to inter-agency collaboration, noting that fire prevention and emergency response are critical component of overall disaster management.

He further stated that FFS is a key stakeholder in the emergency management chain and open to closer synergy with NEMA in the areas of training, public enlightenment, joint simulations and rapid response to incidents across Ekiti State.

Speaking during the visit, the NEMA Head of Operations, Mr Olanrewaju Kazeem Akinade, said the purpose of the visit was to familiarize, strengthen the existing synergy between both agencies and collaboration in terms of capacity building, emergency management and data sharing.

He lauded the professionalism of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), and called for regular joint sensitization programmes in the state.

FFS EKITI COMMAND JOINS ICCES FOR EKITI GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION DUTY

The Officers and men of the Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, joined other members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), to provide security and safety coverage during the 2026 Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election held across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

As part of ICCES, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), deployed firefighting equipment, personnel, operational vehicles, and emergency response teams to strategic locations including collation centres, INEC offices, and high-risk polling units. The deployment was aimed at preventing fire incidents, managing emergencies, and ensuring the safety of electoral officials, voters, election materials, and critical infrastructure throughout the election period.

Speaking during the exercise, the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti Command, DCF O.J. Olatunji, stated that the Service’s participation underscores its mandate to protect lives and property during national assignments. He emphasized that fire prevention and rapid emergency response are vital components of a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), remains committed to supporting INEC and other security agencies under ICCES to guarantee a hitch-free election. Our personnel were on full alert before, during, and after voting to respond swiftly to any fire or rescue situation, the State Controller said.

The election was conducted peacefully across the state, with all security agencies working in synergy under the coordination of ICCES. The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ekiti State Command, continues to maintain standby operations to address any post-election emergency.

FFS EKITI COMMAND TASKS CORPS MEMBERS, NYSC OFFICIALS ON FIRE PREVENTION

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, under the able leadership of the State Controller, DCF O.J. Olatunji, has tasked Youth Corps Members including the NYSC officials in Ekiti on fire safety prevention mechanism.

Giving the fire safety lecture at the ongoing orientation course for "2026 Batch B stream I" Corps Members, at Ise-Orun/Emure Ekiti, ASFII Ochimana Titus charged the Corps Members to be safety conscious while serving their father's land.

The lecture, which underscores the meaning of fire, causes of fire, classes of fire and its extinguishing agents was done to enlightened the gathering on how they can respond to fire outbreaks at incipient stage. Efforts was made to educate the youth on the importance of safety, as nothing can be compared to a safer society.

ASF II Ochimana, further informed that the essence of the lecture is to make the youth aware and be more informed of some underlining principles that led credibility to the causes of fire and its consequences on fire incident victims.

He cautioned the Youth against careless handling of flammable materials in their various homes, noting that most cases of fire outbreaks were traced to act of negligence, while encouraging them to always be proactive in safety business.

The session included message on first aid firefighting equipments, principle of extinction, and what to do when they discovered fire outbreaks at their domain.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of Federal Fire Service, FFS, on timely response to emergency situations across the State.

While calling on the Youth Corps Members and other NYSC officials not to hesitate on reaching out to the Command whenever there's an emergency situations.

FFS EKITI COMMAND JOINS OTHER ICCES MEMBERS FOR COLLECTION OF ELECTION SENSITIVE MATERIALS AT CBN

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, joined other members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, during the collection of election sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, INEC Ekiti State.

The exercise, which took place at the CBN branch in Ado-Ekiti, is a critical phase ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the State. As part of ICCES, the Federal Fire Service, FFS, provided fire safety and emergency response cover to ensure the safety of personnel, materials and facilities throughout the collection process.

Speaking on the operation, the State Controller, Federal Fire Service DCF O.J. Olatunji, reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, to supporting INEC and other security agencies in safeguarding democratic processes. He noted that fire prevention and emergency preparedness remain integral to securing national assets and public safety during sensitive national assignments.

The collection exercise was peaceful and hitch-free, with all agencies working in synergy under the coordination of ICCES. The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti Command remains on alert and ready to respond to any emergency before, during, and after the election.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, EKITI STATE COMMAND PARTNERS SEMA ON FLOOD PREVENTION

In furtherance of its operational trajectory and the strategic approach in deepening inter-agency collaboration, delegations of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ekiti State Command, attended a one-day training/sensitization programme with the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on flood prevention.

The one-day awareness workshop was organized by the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Governor's office, Ado-Ekiti.

The workshop underscores the need to build an inclusive and effective operational trajectory to prepare the local emergency management committee in Ekiti State to be vigilant in achieving efficiency, professionalism amidst 2026 climate change, and to further strengthens its workable system by taking proactive measures towards mitigating against any form of flooding situations that may affect the state in a bid to safeguard lives and property and discharge responsibilities to protect public and private infrastructures.

Speaking on behalf of the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, DCF O.J. Olatunji, DSF Stephen Noah, described the workshop as a forensic alertness and a professional management effort in active preparedness for any flooding situations that may wreck havoc in the state.

DSF Noah, described the training as a call for disaster prevention with an early signal which he attributed to one of the major mandates of the service during emergency and rescue operations which remained its utmost commitment in servicing the nation as entrenched in the service's mission and vision blueprints in rendering humanitarian services across board, noting that the Service is ever ready in rendering assistance of creating increased awareness on flood risks and hitherto remedies.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment in strengthening collaboration with relevant emergency stakeholders in working round the clock to safeguard the state from floods through effective safety awareness and educating the residents to take cautious in their various domain to avert any form of unforseen flooding situations that may rampage their environments. While calling for continuous synergy among safety responders to achieve success in respect to ensure a more safer society and protecting the lives and property of the people.

Dr. Olumide Obe, a facilitator at the workshop, disclosed that training is burned out of the intent to equip members of the local emergency management agency with prerequisite knowledge and practical skills required on tackling the effects of flooding and taking mitigation steps on disaster incidents across the state.

FFS EKITI COMMAND ATTENDS OFFICIAL COMMISSIONING OF EFCC NEW DIRECTORATE

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ekiti State Command, honoured an invitation to witness the official commissioning of the new Directorate of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), located along Old Iyin Road, Bashiri, Ado- Ekiti. The event underscores inter-agency collaboration and support for national security institutions.

The Command was ably represented by DCF O.J. Olatunji, the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command. The delegation joined other sister agencies, dignitaries, and stakeholders at the ceremony.

Accordingly, the State Controller had earlier joined other security agencies in the state to receive the Vice President on arrival at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.

The newly built EFCC Directorate was officially commissioned by the Vice President Kashim Shettima (GCON) on behalf of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

In his remarks, the representative of FFS Ekiti Command reaffirmed the Service's commitment to synergy with EFCC in safeguarding lives, property, and national assets. He noted that fire safety remains critical to securing new government infrastructure.

The presence of FFS Ekiti Command was well received and further cements the Service's reputation as a key partner in national safety and security. The Command remains available for further collaboration with EFCC and other MDAs in Ekiti State.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE CONDUCTS COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY ASSESSMENT AT FCE ILAWE EKITI

In a proactive effort to enhance campus safety and protect lives and critical infrastructures, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Ekiti State Command, under the leadership of the State Controller, DCF O.J. Olatunji, paid an official visit to the Federal College of Education (FCE), Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The high-level delegation, comprising SF Amuda H.F. (Head IIE), DSF Akomolafe T.R., DSF Olokan T.O., AIF Daramola B.J., and FA II Adeyeba E.O., were warmly welcomed by the College’s principal management team, including the Acting Provost and College Librarian, Dr. Abdulmumin Isah, the Registrar, Dr. Khadijah Wuraola Garba, and the Bursar, Mrs Mofoluso Olutayo-David.

During the engagement, the FFS team outlined the purpose of their visit, emphasising a nationwide directive to carry out comprehensive fire safety inspections and risk assessments across institutions benefiting from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). The exercise, in line with the National Fire Safety Code (2013), aims to evaluate compliance with fire safety standards, assess the functionality of fire protection systems, and mitigate potential risks, especially in light of recent emergency incidents reported in academic environments.

Following the briefing session, the Acting Director of Works, Mr Olubodun Kayode, led the delegation on an extensive on-site inspection across the campus. Key facilities assessed included administrative buildings, lecture halls, laboratories, the College Library, ICT centres, student hostels, medical facilities, and generator houses.

This collaborative initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening fire safety culture within Nigeria’s educational sector. It also highlights the College’s dedication to ensuring a safe and secure environment conducive to learning, research, and institutional growth.
