ADPY Commends Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for Strategic Moves to End Banditry in Kwara

The Adewole Dynamic Progressive Youth (ADPY) has commended the bold and strategic initiatives of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq aimed at ending banditry and other criminal activities across the length and breadth of Kwara State, particularly in the North and South Senatorial Districts.

In a statement issued today, the group lauded the governor’s proactive engagement with critical stakeholders at all levels, describing it as “a top-notch and fruitful approach” that has already begun to yield positive results — notably with the recent deployment of a full brigade by the Nigerian Army Headquarters, complete with heavy equipment, to flush out criminal elements from the state.

The group recalled that during Governor AbdulRazaq’s recent visit to Jos alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he seized the opportunity to discuss the pressing security challenges facing Kwara State. “That strategic discussion is now bearing tangible results,” the group noted.

“Despite the criticism from some opposition elements who mischievously accused the governor of being unpatriotic for attending events with the President in Jos, it is now evident that the governor was leveraging the occasion to advance the state’s security interests. The positive outcome — the deployment of heavily equipped troops to Kwara — speaks volumes,” the statement added.

Beyond this, ADPY also praised the governor for approving the recruitment of an additional 2,600 forest guards, complementing the 700 already deployed, to further strengthen the state’s security architecture.

The group appealed to well-meaning Kwarans to report any suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing that “security is everyone’s business.”

ADPY also issued a stern warning against purveyors of fake news, especially on security-related matters, stressing that “fake news destroys faster than banditry itself.”

In conclusion, the Adewole Dynamic Progressive Youth reaffirmed its unalloyed support for the administration of Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and commended his unwavering commitment to restoring peace, protecting lives, and promoting prosperity across Kwara State.

Gov Abdulrazaq inspects 49km road, says Kwarans fully behind President Tinubu for second term

▪︎ commends BUA's quality construction of Eiyenkorin-Offa-Odo Otin road

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Saturday inspected the 49-kilometre Eiyenkorin–Afon– Ojoku–Offa–Odo-Otin road project under construction, commending the pace and quality of work done.

The concrete road is one of the four major roads being funded in Kwara under the federal tax credit scheme at the instance of the BUA conglomerate.

The Governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the continuous ex*****on of the tax credit projects and for his many other supports for the state.

“We are inspecting the ongoing federal and state road projects. This is Ilorin/Offa new road, and you can see how solid it is. We have to thank President Bola Tinubu for this road project. It is a major achievement as you can see,” he told reporters after inspecting the road project.

“The project will shorten travel time between Ilorin, Offa and adjoining communities. When the road is completed, the travel time to Offa from Ilorin will be 30 minutes. This is a good investment and another product of the Renewed Hope Agenda. It shows that the policies are working. There is more money for infrastructure, and people can see that even within the state. We do appreciate the President."

The Governor was accompanied on the tour by the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah, and Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof Shehu Raheem Adaramaja.

He received short briefings from site engineer, Abdulsalam Onaolapo, who said they are working round the clock to deliver the project on schedule.

“Who will say 'no to President Tinubu' after seeing all these investments done at the state and elsewhere?,” the Governor asked, adding that the people of Kwara State are fully behind the President to have another term post 2027 for his developmental agenda to run full circle.

He said the reforms are working and the effects are steadily trickling down through infrastructure spending, social protection programmes, and continuous efforts to strengthen security.

AbdulRazaq hailed the handling contractor, BUA Group, for the good job on the road projects in the state.

“The quality of job being done by BUA is first class. They are also working at Bode Sadu–Kaiama–
Kosubosu road project. We’ve been there as well. The quality of work there is also good. As you can see, this is the rainy season and the construction work is still ongoing. I say well done to BUA,” he said.

The Governor also inspected the ongoing renovation of the Primary Healthcare Centre in Okesho, Asa local government of the state.

He had earlier
paid condolence visits to the families of Daudu Ballah, Alhaji Abdulkadir Kawu Yahya , who died last Friday.

He also attended the Fidau prayer for the former Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Suleiman Bayero.

*Kwara Gov approves multisectoral palliatives to cushion fuel subsidy removal*

• Okays 100% CONMESS for doctors, allowances for nurses

• Workers get monthly cash support, cash backing for promotions, staggered working days

• Eight years after, AbdulRazaq restores steps for SUBEB workers

• Govt to distribute food palliatives; extends free transport for students

• Govt committee to interface with marketers to curb extortions

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a slew of multibillion naira palliatives to neutralise the effects of recent removal of fuel subsidy, cutting across different sectors and demographies of the state.

On top of the palliatives is a cash support of N10,000 for every public sector worker in the state, which will begin this month (July) and last until a new minimum wage is introduced to enable workers cope with the economic shocks created by the subsidy removal, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye told a news briefing on Monday morning.

In deference to the new advisory of the National Economic Council for states to design their own independent responses to the development, the Governor has directed the leadership of the civil service to continue a staggered work schedule — not exceeding three days a week — to reduce transportation expenses for workers, he said.

Kwara had earlier introduced a three-day work schedule for its civil servants, but suspended it in deference to an earlier advisory of the NEC for states to await a more holistic response to the development.

The staggered work plan will not cover 'essential workers', the governor's spokesman clarified.

“The Governor has similarly approved the payment, from this month, July, of new hazard and skipping allowances, and 100% CONMESS for consultants and medical doctors under the government's payroll. He also approved a new regime of allowances for nurses working for the state government. The whole essence is to check attrition rate in the health sector, and attract and retain medics and specialists to provide improved, qualitative healthcare services for the people of the state,” he added.

“The Governor has also endorsed immediate cash-backing of 2019 and 2020 promotion for Teaching Service Commission workers. The administration had earlier cash-backed arrears of promotion for TESCOM for years 2015-2018.

"In the same vein, he has approved cash-backing for 2021 promotion exercise of teaching and non-teaching staff of SUBEB and restoration of steps to all of them. This is a policy response to the yearnings of SUBEB workers since 2016 when SUBEB workers no longer had steps.

“The Governor also approved the extension of free bus rides for students of tertiary institutions in the state, while modalities for occasional distribution of food to poor and most vulnerable households are to be activated in the next few days.

"This shall be nonpartisan, and would be coordinated by a government team to be supported by respected stakeholders who would get inputs from traditional rulers, religious bodies, market leaders, trade unionists, and community based organisations to generate the lists of beneficiaries and disburse accordingly.

"The whole idea of these interventions, which gulp billions of naira of public funds, is to show empathy and deploy as much resources as the state can afford to support the people at this special time.

"The Governor has also approved for the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to activate a N500m worth of conditional support for petty traders and MSMEs in the state.

"The state government will receive fertilisers and grains from the Federal Government and pay for same. It is not free. Modalities for the handling of these will be made available later. This is to boost farming outputs and food security in the state.

“The government, meanwhile, will be setting up a committee to interface with marketers on the need to curb extortionist tendencies as seen in arbitrary fixing of prices of food stuffs. This practice imposes hardship on everyone. The government will be willing to collaborate with the patriotic market leaders on how to tackle this challenge.

“Finally, the Governor identifies with the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong commitments to sustainable economic reforms and well-being of the Nigerian people, believing that the current discomforts are just like the pains that precede the joyful birth of a child.”

*Gov AbdulRazaq attends May Day celebration, lauds workers' struggle for prosperous Kwara*

• Labour leaders hail AbdulRazaq's commitment to welfare, state's growth

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday said the administration will continue to prioritise the welfare of workers and protect the interest of labour unions in the state, acknowledging their support before and during the last general elections.

Speaking at the May Day Celebration in Ilorin, the Governor congratulated the Nigerian workers and labour leaders on the celebration of May Day, a day AbdulRazaq said is "grounded in the progressive and noble values of the global workforce, including in Nigeria".

"Great workers, this administration is your own and it will always be your own. We owe our recent election victory to God Almighty, to you the great workers and to all of the people of our state who stood for the collective aspirations to place Kwara on a path of steady, inclusive growth and collective prosperity that we represent," he said.

"I thank you very much. I reassure you that we will not drop the ball. We will continue to prioritise your welfare while also creating an environment for collective growth."

The Governor attended the event alongside Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi; Head of Service Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole; cabinet members; and Commissioner of Police Paul Odama; Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies Issa Aremu (mni).

Several serving and former labour leaders also attended the celebration.

AbdulRazaq pledged to maximise the gains of the last four years through implementation of various programmes and policies, saying the workers would always be needed for the success of such steps.

"Our agenda is to consolidate on the successes of the last four years through continuous infrastructural renewal, easing of the business climate, expansion of our economic base through support for macro and microeconomic activities, especially small and medium scale enterprises, general industrial growth, growing internal revenue, improving the regime of transparency and accountability, agricultural development, combating environmental and climate crisis such as flooding, and strengthening rule of law, peace and security in the state. We cannot do this without the support of workers," he said.

"I acknowledge the fact that trade unions are important pillars of any democratic society. You are always key to the wider struggles for universal human rights and welfare of your members. Kwara State is known for industrial harmony and we will do our best to keep it that way within the resources available to us. Let us keep being friends and allies in our collective drive for a better Kwara.

"I am similarly appealing to the Labour unions across Nigeria to work for a seamless transition of government following the recent election cycle from which different political parties have been pronounced winners of different offices. I am not just asking you to support our government in Kwara; I am especially enjoining you to give your full support to the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu."

State NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, for his part, commended the Governor for giving the welfare of workers and pensioners a top priority, including prompt payment of workers' salaries and their promotion as and when due.

He saluted the entire workforce for working tirelessly in creating the wealth of the state, acknowledging the important roles the labour movement is playing to strengthen the local economy.

Olayinka requested the government to urgently address pending issues concerning workers' welfare across different subsectors of the economy.

State TUC Chairman, Comrade Joseph Tunde, acknowledged AbdulRazaq's giant strides in infrastructure development
and workers' welfare, and tasked the Governor to do more in the new dispensation.

Eid Road: Kwara govt shuts one lane at Irewolede to construct cross-culvert

• Lists alternative routes for motorists

• Orders contractor on Adeta Primary School back to site, threatens blacklist

Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transportation has temporarily closed a section of the Irewolede road as the state government begins construction of adequate channels to accommodate flood water in the axis.

“The temporary closure is to protect workers from the traffic as well as shield motorists from the potential hazards of a construction site. We call for patience and understanding of members of the public," Commissioner for Works and Transport Hon. Suleiman Rotimi Iliasu said in a statement on Saturday.

“While work begins on this road, we plead with road users to use the Customs Road, Stadium Road, Asa-Dam Road, Coca-Cola Road, and Taiwo Road.

"Once again, we appeal to residents and road users to be patient. We regret the inconveniences this work may cause. It is for the safety of the general public and smoother road travel within the axis."

The government has also ordered the contractor handling the Adeta Primary School Road back to the site to fix sections of the road that have failed.

The Ministry said the contractor has seven days to return to the site or risk being blacklisted, especially that officials had earlier raised red flags about the quality of his job.

"The retention period has not lapsed, and the contractor has not been fully paid for the job as part of the standard measures to protect public interest," the Commissioner added.

Iliasu said the Ministry has also taken note of complaints on some other roads recently affected by flooding, although he urged members of the public to avoid blocking drainages.

"A culture of dumping wastes into drainages is an unfortunate thing that damages our roads. No matter how good a road is, it needs a free flow of water for durability. This is often a problem because people are fond of messing up our drainages in spite of the daily advocacy, but we will not be tired," he added.
