The Lagos State Liaison Office Abuja received a team from the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) on 1st April, 2026, as part of the ongoing ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme sensitization programme for staff across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The initiative was designed to educate staff on the benefits of the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme and encourage wider participation among Lagos State employees. The Lagos State Government, in its commitment to ensuring that all members of its workforce have access to quality and affordable healthcare, has extended the scheme to its staff stationed in Abuja. To further enhance accessibility, LASHMA is now collaborating with the FCT Health Insurance Scheme to ensure that staff receive prompt and efficient healthcare services wherever they are located.

During the session, the Head of Medical Operations, Dr. Olugbenga Fadipe, and the Head of Customer Service, Mr. Lanre Green, provided practical insights into the operational framework of the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Plan. Their presentation focused on enrollee management, access to healthcare services, and the effective handling of enquiries and complaints. They also explained that the insurance plans are carefully structured to guarantee access to essential health services for all registered beneficiaries.

The team also addressed common issues encountered by MDAs and enrollees, including request processing, procedures for change of data, and frequently asked questions relating to enrollment, benefits packages, healthcare access, and provider selection.

Furthermore, enrollees on the scheme have the opportunity to access healthcare services through EKOTELEMED, which allows them to consult with medical professionals via audio or video calls from the comfort of their homes. Through the platform, enrollees can access highly trained and experienced medical doctors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in any of the four major Nigerian languages — English, Yoruba, Egun, and Igbo.

With EKOTELEMED, there is a guarantee of immediate, easy, accessible, and affordable healthcare for Lagos residents, as they can speak with medical personnel from wherever they are through the toll-free line 08000-EKOMED (08000356633).

The interactive engagement further provided staff with the opportunity to seek clarifications and gain a better understanding of how to fully benefit from the scheme. It was also noted that the FCT Health Insurance Scheme will provide further clarification on the benefits available to Lagos State staff stationed in Abuja.

The sensitization programme was well attended and had in attendance all members of staff of the Liaison Office, Abuja.

The Assistant Director of Administration and Human Resource, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Osunrinde, on behalf of the Director of Liaison, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, the Office of the Lagos State Head of Service led by Mr. Bode Agoro, and the LASHMA team, particularly the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, for the initiative and the opportunity extended to Lagos State Government staff in Abuja to benefit from the health insurance scheme.
