The International Agro Cargo Airport, Iperu, Ogun State, was officially unveiled yesterday by His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive toward economic diversification and infrastructure development.

I had the honour of witnessing this landmark occasion alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun - MFR, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor Ademola Adeleke, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Arospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside other distinguished personalities.

This strategic project is set to boost agro-exports, strengthen Nigeria’s aviation value chain, and unlock new opportunities for farmers, businesses, and investors. It stands as a testament to purposeful leadership and our collective commitment to building a more productive and globally competitive nation.

God bless Ogun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Today, We celebrate not just a President, but a leader whose strength, humility, and conviction continue to shape the direction of our nation.

Happy 74th Birthday to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

Mr. President, your message today reflects the heart of a man who truly understands that leadership is not about one person, but about the people, the sacrifices, and the shared belief in a better Nigeria. Your words on unity, resilience, and collective progress are both timely and deeply reassuring.

From where I sit in the sports sector, I see daily how your vision of Renewed Hope comes alive, in the discipline of our athletes, in their hunger to succeed, and in the unity that sports continues to foster across our diverse nation. Just like in governance, success in sports is never the effort of one man, but the strength of a committed team working towards a common goal.

As you reflect on the journey so far and the road ahead, we acknowledge the sacrifices made and the progress recorded. Indeed, the light at the end of the tunnel you spoke of is one we are all committed to reaching together.

On a personal note, I pray that God grants you continued strength, wisdom, and clarity to lead us through these defining times. The journey may be challenging, but I share in your firm belief that Nigeria will emerge stronger, more prosperous, and more united.

Happy Birthday once again, Mr. President. Nigeria is rooting for you.

Again, this is another proof that Nigeria truly has the most sports-loving President in President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is transforming Nigerian sports with reforms and putting the country's athletes first.

This is a clear departure from what it used to be in the past, where athletes were promised things by the Federal Government but had to wait years before they were reluctantly fulfilled. This is the Renewed Hope agenda Mr. President promised Nigerians, and we are all witnessing its results in sports every day.

Today, on Commonwealth Day, we celebrate what it means for Nigeria to be part of a global family, steadfast in its care for our people, united in friendship, and committed to progress and service.

The Commonwealth reminds us of the power of shared values, collaboration, and collective ambition. For Nigeria, it is an opportunity to showcase our resilience, talent, and the spirit of a nation determined to contribute, inspire, and lead.

As we mark this day, let us continue to work together, nurture our potential, and build a future where every Nigerian can shine on the global stage.

A true iroko has surely gone home. High Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde has been nothing short of a football legend and an enigma whose impact resonates across the global football ecosystem.

His patriotism and constructive contributions to the development of Nigerian football over five decades cannot be over emphasized and his legacies as a former National team coach, former CAF and FIFA Technical Instructor will continue to shape the sport in decades to come.

A true legend has truly gone home.

Rest on high Chief.

I am delighted by the successful conclusion of the National Open Boxing Trials held in Lagos, which marks an important step in Nigeria’s preparations for upcoming international competitions.

The trials, organized by the Nigeria Boxing Federation Nigeria Boxing Federation as part of National Boxing Week, brought together a strong pool of elite fighters from across the country, including athletes from the diaspora with Nigerian heritage who travelled from different parts of the world to compete for national selection.

A total of 147 boxers participated in the national trials, which also served as Commonwealth Games trials. I was particularly pleased to see fighters from the diaspora return home to compete. This aligns with our strategy at the National Sports Commission to provide opportunities for Nigerians in the diaspora to represent the country, as we work to ensure Nigeria is represented by the very best talents.

I also acknowledge the leadership of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose support and commitment have created an enabling environment for sports development in Nigeria. That momentum is now being reflected across our sports federations, and it strengthens our confidence that Nigeria will perform strongly at the Commonwealth Games.

I commend the leadership of the Nigeria Boxing Federation for organizing an excellent week of boxing. The quality of organization and the level of competition witnessed throughout the trials clearly demonstrate that Nigerian boxing is moving in the right direction.

One of the highlights of the finals was the thrilling 70kg bout between Patricia Mbata and Blessing Orakwe, which captured the true spirit of boxing. Mbata, who is based in the United Kingdom, faced Lagos-based Orakwe in a highly anticipated rematch after their previous encounter at the National Sports Festival. This time, Mbata delivered a determined performance to claim victory and secure the 70kg title.

The contest drew admiration from fans and officials alike and showcased the growing depth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s boxing talent pool.

At the National Sports Commission, we have refined our approach to sports administration with a stronger emphasis on athlete welfare, development, and support. When our athletes are properly supported and valued, they will always rise to represent the nation with excellence.

On this year’s International Women’s Day, I celebrate all Nigerian women who continue to raise the flag of Nigeria across the global sporting stage.

Across global competitions, Nigerian sportswomen have proven that talent, resilience, and dedication can transform dreams into remarkable achievements. Their victories go far beyond medals and trophies; they inspire millions of young girls to believe in their potential and pursue greatness in sport and in life.

To our young girls across Nigeria and beyond: the future of sport belongs to you. Step onto every field of play with confidence, train with purpose, and compete with the heart of a champion. With commitment, discipline, and opportunity, you can represent our nation with pride and stand tall among the best in the world.

As we mark this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing opportunities for women and girls in sport, strengthening development pathways, supporting emerging talent, and ensuring that Nigerian women continue to shine on regional and international stages.

I salute every Nigerian sportswoman and encourage the next generation to keep pushing boundaries and setting new records for the nation.

Our love and commitment to para sports cannot be undermined. Para athletes have brought immense pride to this country, winning medals at the Paralympics and Commonwealth Games and consistently placing Nigeria on the global podium.

As a Commission, we will continue to give equal focus, funding attention and equal developmental support to para sports alongside every other sporting discipline.

We are very excited that we have begun extending our elite athletes welfare programme to our young and exciting athletes, starting with some of our outstanding junior swimmers who excelled so well last year.

This initiative reflects the leadership example of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to duly reward and honour any athlete who does well for the country.

The likes of Aidan dumuije-Abili and Tofunmi ibidapo did well at various international competitions last year winning multiple medals for the country.

Mr President has continually shown us that when you do well for the country, irrespective of your field, a grateful nation will always say thank you.

Our grassroots drive is top on the commission's agenda and we have no doubt that the future of our Sports in terms of talent and competing with the right age is secured
