You don't need a soothsayer to tell you why NDC had to issue that press statement. Senator Seriake Dickson has been a member of the House of Representatives, I think for two terms, then a two-term governor of Bayelsa State, and is currently a senator.
He is a dyed-in-the-wool politician, unlike the Labour people, none of whom had ever held any top political office before Obi and his foot soldiers joined them. Prof. Utomi, who should know better, is just an egghead; politically, he's as naive as anybody. That is why it was easy for the Obidients to enter the Labour Party, but the Labour Party did not enter them.
It is the reason they acted anyhow and ran a parallel body against the party. They operated a different bank account, warehoused funds outside the party's official bank account, ran the account without the knowledge of the Labour Party Treasurer and the NEC of the party, and even had separate signatories to the account, in which Aisha Yesufu was the "akapo."
They were in Labour, but Labour was not in them. Yet, they are the people who want to teach us about inclusion, doing things by the rules, and acting according to the constitution of a party.
Dickson opened his eyes very well. Before they could bring their "bolekaja" way of operating outside constituted authority, he quickly read them the riot act with that press statement. In short, he was saying, "Don't bring your 'wonran woran' here; this is not the Labour Party."
Okay, let's dissect the main gist of the press statement:
1. The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy.
2. The programs, policies, and appointments (except personal staff) of all governments elected on the platform of the party must be made in consultation with the party structure. (No one-man show here.)
3. All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure. (No Obidient or Kwankwasiyya; this is NDC.)
4. The NEC also approved the development of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. (You can't do anyhow here; this is a political party, not an aluta platform.)
5. The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded. (Ouch! You can't be jumping up and down like a toad here. Either you are here or you are out.)
6. To enforce strict accountability among its officers and candidates, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business. The party further directed that all funds raised by candidates and contributions made to campaign accounts be fully disclosed through designated party channels. Monies sourced by candidates at all levels, and contributions made by candidates to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate levels. (No parallel bank accounts, "akapo," and signatories to accounts outside the party structure.)
7. At all times, and for all candidates and aspirants, total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest. (No one-man show.)
Walahi, I come dey like Dickson. Dem say him be former policeman. No wonder... na real Askari be the guy. E no send their mama.
I don laugh tire...and your time to abuse me start..........now!
