I find myself in the middle of an impromptu town hall meeting in Manchester, UK. I had attended a lunch to which Peter Obi was invited, expecting to enjoy a meal I had been looking forward to. Instead, lunch took a back seat as discussions about Nigeriaโ€™s challenges dominated the gathering.

Many of the questions reflected growing unease over the apparent confidence with which some public officials speak about the outcome of the 2027 elections, as though the results were already predetermined. Participants were keen to know how they could actively take responsibility for the fight against electoral manipulation and ensure that their votes count.

The resolve to resist electoral malpractice at all costs is unmistakable. It also raises a troubling concern: if those in power attempt to subvert the peopleโ€™s mandate in 2027, the resulting tension could escalate into a dangerous national crisis. The urgent task is to ensure that this determination translates into peaceful, lawful action to defend the peopleโ€™s democratic choice.

"Rebuilding Nigeria

Yesterday, Wednesday, 21 October, I arrived in London at 7 a.m. from Basel, Switzerland. It was one of my busiest days, filled with several engagements, including meetings with stakeholders in the UK.

I rounded off the day in the evening with a meeting organised by the COPDEM Chief and the NDC Director of Diaspora Affairs, bringing together other stakeholders in London.

All the meetings with British government officials and the Nigerian diaspora centred on our collective responsibility to rebuild Nigeria and free our country from the shackles of bad leadership, corruption, and the lack of accountability that continue to undermine our national development. These challenges have deprived millions of Nigerians of access to basic necessities, including quality healthcare, education, and decent employment.

Nigerians deserve a country where every life matters, where hard work is rewarded, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or connections.

We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. A country that works for everyone, not just a privileged few.

A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO"

โ€œIn the 2023 elections, Nigerian youths aged 18 to 34 reportedly accounted for 37 million registered voters. However, the figure has now dropped to 29 million. What happened to the missing 8 million? Where is the updated INEC votersโ€™ register?โ€

Former INEC Commissioner Festus Okoye raises these critical questions as INEC faces scrutiny over its failure to publish the new votersโ€™ register.

During the 2015 presidential election, when former President Goodluck Jonathan, a son of the South-South, sought re-election, the South-East and South-South overwhelmingly threw their support behind him.

According to published analyses of INEC's results, Jonathan secured approximately 93% of the valid votes in the South-East and 91% in the South-South. Meanwhile, Muhammadu Buhari, the APC candidate, won the South-West, taking the majority of votes in five out of its six states.

The question is simple: When the South-South needed political solidarity the most, who stood by them?

The 2015 election results tell a story worth remembering. As we look ahead to 2027, political loyalty, fairness, and solidarity should matter.
