Today is not just any day…
70 years ago, precisely on the 5th of June 1956, months after the discovery of crude oil, on a quiet land in Otuabagi- Oloibiri in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, something happened that would change Nigeria forever.
The earth was pierced.
Oil was first spudded.
It marked the beginning of an industry…
But it also marked the beginning of a story we are still trying to rewrite.
Because while energy brought growth, it also brought questions
about our environment, our communities, and our future.
And today… if we listen closely…
🌍 We hear Mother Earth speak.
And we hear her.
But what is she saying?
She is saying:
“Protect me.”
“Preserve me.”
“Do better than before.”
And from that realization, in 2015, an idea was born…
An idea bigger than any one person.
What if we could teach the next generation differently?
What if children understood energy not just as a resource, but as a responsibility…
and a history they must preserve?
That idea gave birth to a movement.
Today, through OLOGEDI Initiative, we are in schools
not just teaching energy…
but shaping minds.
We are introducing young people to oil, gas, and clean energy
and how they can coexist responsibly.
We are raising children who will not repeat the mistakes of the past…
but will build a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future.
Because the truth is simple:
🌍 The environment is not separate from us.
It is OUR responsibility.
And the next generation is already rising
in classrooms, in competitions, in conversations —
ready to take their place.
So today, on World Environment Day,
we don’t just celebrate…
We listen.
We reflect.
And we commit.
To protect.
To preserve.
To educate.
To act.
Because the future of our environment
depends on what we teach today.
Happy World Environment Day.
