RWANDA HIGH COMMISSION IN MOZAMBIQUE COMMEMORATES KWIBUKA32
In concurrence with the UN General Assembly decision (No 72/550 dated 26/01/2018) designating 07th April as the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, Rwanda High Commission in Mozambique joins the world in commemoration of the same (Kwibuka32).
Observing from how far we have come, kwibuka32 is a time to reflect on Rwanda’s journey of rebuilding strength, resilience, and unity. Falling to new generations to sustain and carry forward this progress, adapting to current global challenges to achieve Rwanda’s aspirations
Even though the scar feels just as deep, and painful, Rwanda’s hope runs deeper, and the joy of seeing what the new generations will make of this new Rwanda, outweighs the grief.
It is however, worthy to note that Genocide ideology still lingers in the form of denial and revisionism, as so are some genocide perpetrators still at large in the region, it is our noble role to fight such either through legislation or international cooperation to bring to justice these genocide fugitives wherever they could be, that will be an indication that the world has come together to say ‘Never Again’.
Rwanda has always been appreciative that the Government of Mozambique ratified and signed legal instruments of Extradition Treaty and Mutual Legal assistance in criminal matters, which is to facilitate in bringing to justice genocide perpetrators, other countries are called upon to emulate the good deed.
Throughout the commemoration week that starts on 07th and ends on 13th April, Rwanda High Commission will have the national flag fly at half-mast, film documentaries on Genocide against the Tutsi will be shown at the Embassy during morning time, and the condolence book will be open for messages.
On 12th April 2026, there will be an actual commemoration of the event at Serena Polana Hotel.
