EMBASSY JOINS BIBAK KUALA LUMPUR’S 14TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

KUALA LUMPUR – The Philippine Embassy joined BIBAK Kuala Lumpur in the celebration of their 14th anniversary on 30 August 2026 at YMCA Brickfield in KL Sentral.

BIBAK Kuala Lumpur is a Filipino community organization that brings together and represents Filipinos from Benguet, Ifugao, Bontoc, Apayao, Kalinga, and provides a platform for members to celebrate their heritage, preserve traditions, and share Cordilleran culture with the wider community in Malaysia.

Ambassador Maria Angela Abrera Ponce thanked BIBAK President Ms. Annie Rose Batuyog and expressed immense pride in seeing the rich traditions of Benguet, Ifugao, Bontoc, Apayao, and Kalinga celebrated together on one stage.

Kalinga Governor Hon. James S. Edduba, who was guest of honor, remarked that physical distance cannot diminish the community's connection to its shared history, values, and cultural identity. He encouraged overseas Filipinos to protect and pass on their living heritage, including traditional music, dances, language, and stories, to the next generation. Governor Edduba further called on members of the Cordillera diaspora to strengthen unity, support fellow kababayans, and serve as proud ambassadors of the Cordilleras in Malaysia.

A highlight of the event was the Search for Ms. BIBAK 2026, with Ms. Jennifer “Jenny” Fongafong from Bontoc, Mountain Province, crowned as the winner from a field of seven (7) candidates.

Anchored on the theme “Cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can benefit all of humanity,” the celebration affirmed the value of cultural diversity as a source of strength, fostering mutual understanding, solidarity, and a stronger sense of community.

The Ambassador was joined by Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Roussel Reyes, Vice Consul Patricia Laggui, Labor Attaché Jocelyn Ortega, and Attachés Hannah Patricia De Castro, and Aina Abrencillo. END
