there’s a buffalo at the end who’s VERY happy about it.

The rains will (hopefully) be easing soon, leaving everything lush, green, and full of life.

There’s a quiet shift happening here — a sense that a new season is just around the corner.

With some exciting new things underway and a truly wonderful new team on board, there’s a fresh energy at the lodge that we can’t wait to share.

We’re looking forward to welcoming guests and volunteers again — to the work, the people, and all the moments in between that make this experience so special.

A Heavy Loss. A Deeper Resolve.

We are devastated to hear that Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservancy—founded by extended family and so instrumental in helping us establish our own volunteer programme—has lost one of their black rhinos to poaching.

It’s a tragic reminder of the constant threat facing our wildlife and the urgent need to protect what remains.

Imire’s work has inspired and shaped ours, and this tragedy is a sobering reminder of why conservation efforts matter—why we need more boots on the ground, more eyes on the bush, and more people willing to act.

If you’ve ever wanted to be part of something meaningful, to contribute to conservation in a real way—consider volunteering. Your time can make a difference.

Had a lovely 10 minutes with a pair of White-backed Ducks, who were completely relaxed as we punted around the Elephant Marsh in our wooden boat. Always a treat to see, as they’re largely nomadic and not a common sight for us. Another treasure of our Marsh!
