Government Releases Funds for Mzuni Library Construction to Resume
Government has assured that construction of the Mzuzu University(Mzuni) library will resume without further delays after funds were made available for its completion.
Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, gave the assurance on Tuesday during a visit to Mzuni's main campus, where he reviewed ongoing development projects with university management.
He said there are no financial challenges affecting the project, confirming that the contractor now has the necessary funds to proceed with work.
Mzuni Vice Chancellor, Professor Wales Singini, confirmed receipt of the funds and expressed optimism that construction would now progress smoothly.
Msaka commended the university's development progress, noting that ongoing infrastructure projects were transforming both the institution and Mzuzu City.
He also highlighted other projects, including the Africa Centre of Excellence, the Skills for a Vibrant Economy building, a modern auditorium complex, and Hotel Mzuni.
Professor Singini said completion of the 5,000-seater library will address long-standing space challenges and improve teaching, learning, and research.
The library project, initially expected to be completed in 2022, will also include an auditorium, audio-visual facilities, and an archival centre.
