FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
National Audit Office Clarifies on a Fake Document in Circulation
The National Audit Office (NAO) wishes to inform the general public, stakeholders, and the media that a document currently circulating in the public domain, purportedly authored and issued by the National Audit Office, is fake and did not originate from the NAO or the Office of the Auditor General.
The said document, which alleges the handover of corruption case files to the Anti-Corruption Bureau and references named individuals and specific monetary figures, has not been prepared, approved, issued, or authorized by the Auditor General or any officer of the National Audit Office. Its contents are therefore false, misleading and do not represent the official position or work of the NAO.
The National Audit Office operates within clearly defined constitutional and legal mandates and follows established institutional procedures for the communication of audit outcomes and official engagements with oversight and law-enforcement institutions. Any legitimate public communication from the NAO is issued exclusively through its recognized official channels and formats.
The circulation of fabricated documents bearing the name and insignia of the National Audit Office is a serious matter. The NAO strongly condemns this act, which has the potential to mislead the public, damage reputations, and undermine confidence in public institutions. Appropriate measures are being taken to address this matter.
The public and the media are therefore urged to disregard the said document and to verify any information attributed to the National Audit Office through its official platforms or by directly engaging the Office.
The NAO remains committed to professionalism, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in the ex*****on of its constitutional mandate.
