Vice President Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah SC, JA. (Rtd) has underscored that economic transformation is non-negotiable if Malawi is to achieve sustainable development and prosperity.

Speaking at the 2026 Lakeshore Business Leaders’ Summit, the Vice President called for an immediate end to governance gaps that continue to stall national progress. She emphasized that transparency and accountability are critical pillars, warning that even the most well-crafted economic policies cannot succeed without them.

Dr. Ansah highlighted key economic challenges facing the country, including persistent trade deficits, low industrial output, and severe foreign exchange constraints. She noted that industry currently contributes only modestly to Malawi’s GDP, with manufacturing remaining underdeveloped.

“We must be honest about where we stand. This must change,” she said, urging both public and private sector leaders to work collaboratively toward building a resilient and productive economy.
