MERA Raises Awareness on Renewable Energy at Star Private Academy

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) today conducted a renewable energy information session at Star Private Academy in Mzuzu as part of its efforts to promote adoption of clean energy technologies.

Speaking during the event, MERA Renewable Energy Regulation Specialist, Macmillan Chisale, encouraged students to embrace renewable energy solutions as a way of protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development.

Chisale highlighted the benefits of clean energy technologies such as biogas and solar energy, noting that they provide reliable sources of energy while reducing environmental degradation.

On behalf of the school, Gracious Nkhata commended MERA for organizing the awareness campaign, describing it as an important initiative that equips students with knowledge on renewable energy and environmental conservation.

MERA remains committed to raising awareness and nurturing a culture of renewable energy adoption among students and the general public.

MERA at Malawi Energy Week 2026

We’re at the 2nd Edition of Malawi Energy Week, 1–5 June 2026 at Mzuzu Shopping Mall. The event has been organized by the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi.

MERA’s Renewable Energy Regulation Specialist, Macmillan Chisale, met with renewable energy (RE) exhibitors to guide them on licensing for importation & sale of renewable energy products.

Key reminder: From 1 September 2026, MERA, Malawi Bureau of Standards and Malawi Revenue Authority will enforce Energy Regulation By-laws. All companies must have a license for importing, selling, installing or maintaining RE technologies.

This move is to protect consumers from substandard products and promote a safe, compliant RE market in Malawi.

Can you spot the future engineer, plumber, teacher, lawyer, illustrator, meteorologist, and orthopedist in these photos? Earlier today, they visited the MERA pavilion at the 36th Malawi International Trade Fair, underway in Blantyre.

It was amazing to see the next generation asking big questions about powering Malawi’s future. PowerPlus Control Systems and Waste and Innovation Hub seized the moment to further spark the learners’ interest in clean energy solutions.
