Minister of Mining Makes Courtesy Call on Ministry Staff
The newly appointed Minister of Mining, Hon. Thoko Tembo, MP, paid a courtesy call to the Ministry's headquarters and met with Senior Management and staff before assuming office .
During the meeting, Hon. Tembo urged staff to remain focused on the Ministry's vision and work together towards achieving its goals.
“Every person within the Ministry should understand the vision of the Ministry. With that approach, we implement and work as a team,” said Hon. Tembo.
Director of Administration Martin Nkasala briefed the Minister on the Government of Malawi's target for the Ministry of Mining to contribute 10 percent to the country's GDP by 2030.
“I assure you that the staff is ready to support your leadership. Under your guidance, we are confident that we will achieve this target,” said Nkasala.
Director of Mines Burnett Msika highlighted progress made through policy and legislative reforms.
“We have registered notable progress in advancing key reforms, including the development of the ASM Policy and reviews of the Explosives Act, Petroleum Act, and Petroleum Taxation Act,” said Msika.
Director of the Planning and Policy Unit Patricia Zimpita said the Ministry continues to build strategic partnerships with development partners.
