Mabanja okwana 27,180 ndiomwe akuyembekezereka kupindura nawo mu ndondomeko yaboma ya zipangizo za ulimi zotsika mtengo ya Farm Inputs Subsidy Program (FISP) ya 2026 - 2027.

Mkulu wa za ulimi mchigawo cha ku madzulo m'boma la Dowa Matilda Mtambo anafotokoza Izi pa nkumano wa khonsolo ya Dowa (District Executive Committee - DEC) omwe unachitika lachinayi pa 2 October.

Mchigawo cha ku mmawa kwa Dowa (Dowa east) mabanja 10,265 ndiamene atapindure, ndipo mabanja 16,915 ndiamene atapindure mchigawo cha ku madzulo (Dowa west).

Iwo anati anthu omwe akupindura mu ndondomeyi akuyenera kutsatanso ndondomeko zakakonzedwe komanso kagwiritsidwe ntchito ka feteleza wa Mbeya.

"Izi zili chonchi chifukwa ndondomeko ya chaka chino ya FISP ikulimbikitsanso ntchito za kasamalidwe komanso kubwezeleretsa chonde mnthaka (Intergrated Soil Fertility Management).

"Alangizi a za ulimi a m'madera (Extension workers) azipereka upangiri oyenera pa kapangidwe, kasungidwe komaso kathilidwe ka feteleza wa Mbeya," anatero

Opindura akuyenera kusonkha K20,000 pa thumba lililonse la feteleza (Urea, NPK), komanso K10,000 pa makilogaramu asanu a mbewu ya chimanga.
Ndondomeko ya FISP yachaka chino yagwiritsa ntchito magulu a alimi ( Farmers Organization) kupeza anthu omwe akuyenera kupindura nawo mu ndondomekoyi.

--- 27,180 HOUSEHOLDS TO BENEFIT FROM 2026 - 2027 FISP IN DOWA ---

A total of 27,180 households in Dowa district are expected to benefit from the 2026/27 Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (FISP).

Chief Agricultural Officer for Dowa West made the revelation during a District Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Out of the total, 10,265 beneficiaries are from Dowa east, while 16,915 are from Dowa west.

She said beneficiaries would be required to actively engage in the production and utilisation of Mbeya organic fertilisers for participating in the programme.

“Integrated Soil Fertility Management has also been included as part of the programme. As such, Extension workers shall provide technical guidance on the preparation, management and application of Mbeya organic fertilisers,” she said.

To redeem, beneficiaries are to contribute K20,000 per 50 kg bag of fertilizer (Urea, NPK), and K10,000 for 5 kilograms of maize seed.

This year, FISP has adopted section-level farmer organizations (FOs) as the primary and smallest units for beneficiary identification and distribution of farm inputs.

DC DOWA DEMANDS QUALITY, DURABLE CDF PROJECTS FROM PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS

District Commissioner for Dowa James Kanyangalazi has demanded prospective contractors to be engaged in the infrastructure development under the Reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF), to deliver quality and durable projects which will bring meaningful impact to the people in the district.

He made the remarks on Wednesday when the council held a meeting with the prospective contractors to strategize before signing contracts and rolling out projects, which he highlighted are performance based.

"We want each and every project to be delivered in accordance to contracts, designs and time. Each should be value for money. Projects should be resilient to effects of climate change like floods, heavy winds, heavy rains and changing temperatures," said Kanyangalazi.

"Of importance again is that we are going to give contractors project advance money like through bank bonds. We want to make it clear that every money from Dowa must be used in Dowa.

"We do not expect contractors to utilize our money in other projects elsewhere because that would mean depriving the people of Dowa of good timely projects," said Kanyangalazi.

Executive Director for Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (FISD) Limited Company Kondwani Nanchukwa said this was an important engagement.

"But as FISD, we are very much committed to offer both quality and timely projects. These are projects for the development of the country. And as FISD, we are a home-grown company, so we are very much geared to offer the best," he said.

Iwo alankhura izi pamene anali ndi nkumano ndi makontilakitawa pofuna kuunikirana zina ndi zina, asanasainirane makontilakiti.

"Chitukuko chilichonse chibwere mu nthawi yake, chikhale malingana ndi mgwirizano, ndalama iliyonse igwire ntchito yake. Malinga ndi kusintha kwa nyengo, zitukuko zonse zikhale zopilira ku mphepo ya mkuntho, mvula yamphavu, madzi osefukira ndi zina.

DOWA ACHIEVES 94 PERCENT TARGET IN MEASLES - RUBELLA VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

Dowa District Hospital has managed to vaccinate 213,296 children out of 226,911 targeted, representing 94 percent achievement in the measles - Rubella vaccination campaign

Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Coordinator at Dowa district hospital Precious Mlotha described the campaign as successful, attributing the achievements to good collaboration between health workers, mobilizers, chiefs, parents and communities.

"Considering that we had just concluded the third and fourth rounds of the polio vaccination campaign, we did not expect such a good turnout of guardians with eligible children to receive the measles-rubella vaccine and Vitamin A supplements. However, parents still brought their children because of the importance of the vaccine.

"This is a good development as it means more of our children will be protected against the disease," he said.

Chief Wenera I, Austine Mkadayenda, said traditional leaders helped to sensitise communities to take eligible children for vaccination and provided health workers with vaccination points within their communities to implement the campaign.

On Monday, September 28, the department of information from Dowa District Council with support from the Malawi Human Rights Resource Center, through the NCA/DCA Malawi Joint Programme, took part in 2026 Annual Media and Access to Information commemorations held in Lilongwe.

This is as one of the efforts to strengthen the council's capacity in provision of timely information to the public.

During the ceremony, Minister of Information and Communication Technologies Dr Shadric Namalomba urged all information holders to abide by the ATI law and ensure public information flows smoothly to the masses and all information seekers are assisted in accordance with the law.

"The ATI is critical to enhancing transparency, accountability, governance and citizen participation. Citizens should not beg for information that is already theirs, by right," said Namalomba.

Habiba Osman, Executive Secretary of the Malawi Human Rights Commission, which is spearheading the implementation of the ATI, said there is steady progress, with around 150 public institutions already having designated ATI officers.

She however said there is a need for adequate administrative sanctions for non-compliance.

The event was held under the theme "Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder".

The ATI legal framework provides for the public's right to request and receive information held by government's bodies.

MVERA ARMOUR BATTALION HOLDS 2026 HIV/AIDS OPEN DAY

The Mvera Armour Battalion on Friday September 25 held its 2026 Armour Battalion HIV/AIDS open day at Mvera Armour.

Second in Command at the regiment Lieutenant Colonel Clifford Pakhosi Chirwa said the aim was to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment methods available and to counter discrimination.

"Our enemy is no longer on the battlefield only, but also dieseases such as HIV and AIDS which has claimed many of our soldiers. We can be soldiers, but we are humans too and prone to infections.

"That is why we conducted the campaign to raise awareness on prevention and treatment measures that are available like abstainance, faithfulness, use of condoms, PrREP, PEP and others," he said.

Chirwa who was guest of honor at the event said a healthy battalion can serve the nation better.

Director of Health and Social Services for Dowa Dr Ronald Mhango commended the exercise saying it is the right step in reducing HIV prevelence.

"As a district, we are doing quite well in reducing HIV prevelence, and we have intensified efforts like provision of HIV testing services, ART and the newly introduced PrEP.

"But we need to hold hands to fight the pandemic," said Dr Mhango.

The event was held under the theme "Tisakhale ndi wotenga matenda mu MDF" (Ensuring zero new HIV AIDS Infections in MDF).

DOWA DISTRICT COUNCIL CALLS FOR INCREASED INVESTMENT IN FISH FARMING IN THE DISTRICT

Dowa District Council has called for increased investment in aquaculture, saying fish farming can improve smallholder farmers' livelihoods and contribute to Malawi 2063 Agenda.

District Fisheries Officer for Dowa Manson Msukwa made the call during a media tour of fish farming activities by Masopatali Club under Machentche Cooperative in Traditional Authority Dzoole.

The initiative is being implemented under the IAAM Project, with support from the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada).

Msukwa said aquaculture is a profitable venture due to growing demand for fish, while also creating employment opportunities. He then called for more support and investment towards fish farming in the district.

CDF Canada Integrated Agriculture-Aquaculture Specialist Tionge Soko Nyirenda said the project promotes integrated farming, combining fish production with crops, livestock and agroforestry to diversify farmers' income and improve household nutrition.

Masopatali Club chairperson Godfrey Phiri said the 29-member club received 6,000 fingerlings and 22 bags of fish feed as start-up support. The club expects to harvest about 1.5 tonnes of fish, generating an estimated K16 million in revenue.

Phiri said the club plans to reinvest the proceeds in fish feed, fingelings and expand the clubs pond and those of individual members.

DC DOWA URGES CDOs TO BE PROFESSIONAL

District Commissioner for Dowa James Kangalazi has urged the newly recruited Constituency Development Officers to work with integrity and professionalism as they discharge their duties under the Reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He made following a three-day orientation for Constituency Assistant Procurement Officers, Assistant Accountants, Assistant Works Officers, and also Constituency Development Committees (CDCs) chairpersons which was held at the council chamber.

The training aimed to equip participants with knowledge, skills, and professional values required to effectively perform their duties in accordance with the Council's policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and applicable regulations.

“For the CDC chairpersons, we shared with them the government's mission, our vision as a council and what we expect from them.

“With the new constituency staff, we shared on how government systems like procurement, financial management, audit work. All this is to ensure we are on the same footing as we implement the reformed CDF,” said Kanyangalazi.

The District Commissioner thanked the government for the Reformed CDF which is annually allocating MK5 billion per constituency, and highlighted to the participants that people have a lot of expectations from the reformed CDF.

"This he said required hard work, professionalism, integrity and collaboration and safeguarding government resources if we are to deliver," he said.

In his remarks, Dowa Mphudzu CDC chairperson Levison Jimu Banda said the orientation came at an ideal time as communities await projects under the reformed CDF. He urged the officers to work hard.

Bungwe la MACODA ku Dowa lapempha adindo kupitiliza kuikapo mtima pofuna kutukula miyoyo ya anthu omwe ali ndi vuto lakumva.
