It pleased the Embassy of Japan in Malawi to invite the sport of KENDO on Japan Day. On Saturday, 26th September 2026 Kendo Association of Malawi joined the Japanese community to commemorate the day as part of cultural exchange.
在マラウイ日本国大使館が主催する「ジャパン・デー」に、剣道をご紹介する機会をいただきました。2026年9月26日（土）、文化交流の一環として、マラウイ剣道協会は日本人コミュニティと共にこの日を祝いました。
We were able to perform Kendo Demonstrations with a team of players from Blantyre sponsored by CFAO Mobility Malawi Limited, a Toyota Company where our President Mr. Austinie SOMBA works and the official sponsor who provided us with mobility, food and accommodation. At the event the Toyota company displayed the latest model of a New Toyota Hilux.
Interestingly, His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador Mr. Yasushi NAITO, JICA Malawi resident representative, Mr. TANAKA alongside young kids joined to play KENDO.
Please enjoy seeing the pictures!
特筆すべき点として、内藤康司 在マラウイ日本国大使やJICAマラウイ事務所の田中所長も、子供たちと一緒に剣道を体験されました。

Jigeiko over Somba senpai & Matsush*ta Sensei

21/03/2026

Today we extend our deepest appreciation to Matsush*ta Sensei Masanobu, a distinguished Kendo expert from AKIMO Dojo, Maputo (Mozambique) under the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for visiting Malawi between 18th – 22nd March 2026.
Sensei graciously joined our practice session at Blantyre Sports Arena Dojo today 21st March 2026, and we are truly honored by his presence and guidance. Despite the day coinciding with Eid ul Fitr, and some of our members attending prayers, we still gathered around 20–22 players, mostly beginners, who came together to welcome our visiting Sensei.
Sensei Matsush*ta dedicated the session to the foundational basics of Kendo—emphasizing how to properly hold the Shinai, how to swing correctly, and the essential posture and discipline that form the heart of traditional Kendo training. Our members greatly benefited from his expert instruction and humble spirit.
We are also deeply grateful for his kind donation of:

2 brand new Shinai
1 pair of Kote
6 packs of Tenugui

This generous gesture will go a long way in supporting our growing community of Kendoka in Malawi.
Thank you, Matsush*ta Sensei, for sharing your knowledge, time, and kindness with us. Your visit has truly inspired and motivated our members as we continue strengthening Kendo in Malawi.
Arigatou gozaimash*ta, Sensei. 🇲🇼🇯🇵
