Liberia Calls for African Leadership in the Blue Economy at Seafood 4 Africa 2026

Dakhla, Kingdom of Morocco – February 4, 2026 The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Hon. J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., along with the Consul General of the Republic of Liberia in Dakhla, Hon. Johnnie F. Fallah, participated in the Seafood 4 Africa 2026 Conference, marking Liberia’s inaugural participation in the high-level forum.

Speaking as one of the special guest representatives of African countries, Hon. Saygbe described the event as a pivotal moment for Africa’s blue economy.

“Seafood 4 Africa is more than a conference; it is a declaration that Africa is ready to take ownership of its blue economy, steward its aquatic resources responsibly, and transform them into engines of inclusive growth, food security, and shared prosperity,” he stated.

Hon. Saygbe highlighted Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen fisheries governance, expand sustainable aquaculture, and attract private-sector investment. He further emphasized the importance of enhanced regional cooperation to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and to protect marine ecosystems across the continent.

Additionally, the Director General and the Consul General leveraged the platform to engage leading Moroccan fisheries companies and investors ahead of Liberia’s first post-war National Fisheries Investment Conference, scheduled for 30-31 March in Monrovia. The conference aims to accelerate growth and unlock new investment opportunities in Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

Liberia’s participation in this continental conference stems directly from the Consulate General’s proactive engagement in July 2025 with the President of the Dakhla Chamber of Commerce and Services, who also serves as Head of the Seafood 4 Africa Annual Conference.
