🌊⚡ Big things are happening in the North Sea.

We're providing a €1bn financing to Elia Group in order to support the second phase of the Princess Elisabeth Energy Island: an innovative project that will help bring more offshore wind energy to homes and businesses across Belgium, and beyond.

Located 45 kms off the Belgian coast, the island will act as a hub connecting offshore wind farms to the electricity grid, helping make energy supplies more reliable and supporting Europe's transition to renewable energy.

As EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot said: "Energy prices are a major concern for citizens, and a key reason for the EIB to invest in a better integrated and more resilient European energy system."
The impact goes beyond Belgium: by helping connect energy networks across borders, the project can contribute to a more connected, resilient and sustainable Europe.

Because investing in local resources leads to a more autonomous Europe tomorrow.

That’s why we don’t design banknotes. 💶

But if we did, we would still think of the scale.

We leave the design of the next euros to the capable hands of our colleagues at the European Central Bank. Because we are the European Investment Bank; we don’t print euros, but we know how to best invest them for Europe’s prosperous future.

What you see on our beloved, yet fictional banknotes:
🚄 The Lisbon-Porto High Speed Rail: a €3 billion package to connect Portugal’s two biggest cities by fast train, with €875 million signed so far.

🌬️ Offshore wind in Poland: €2 billion helping power more households with clean energy, on the way to nearly one-tenth of Poland’s electricity by 2030.

🤖 TechEU, our “love letter” to the EU’s innovators: EIB Group plans to mobilise €340 billion by 2028 for tech, clean energy, space, housing and biotech.

🏡 Support for affordable housing across the EU: a record €5.2 billion in 2025, rising to a projected €6 billion in 2026.

These are just 4 of our highlights from our midterm strategic report. Want to see more? Click the link in bio.

Note: We used AI in some parts of our euro proposals.

Every thriving vineyard begins long before the first harvest. It starts with healthy planting material, careful research and the right conditions for it to grow. 🌱🍇

That is why this investment matters.
Approximately €600,000 has been invested in modernising vine and fruit-tree research and production infrastructure at the National Institute for Applied Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (INCAAMV).
Through the “Fruit Garden of Moldova” Project, INCAAMV now benefits from:

🌿 A new 396 m² cold storage facility, worth €423,818, that will help preserve the quality of vine canes and cuttings;
🌿 A vine nursery covering more than 20 hectares, supporting both research and the production of planting material;
🌿 Specialised tractors and equipment to make essential nursery work more efficient—from soil cultivation and fertilisation to mowing and herbicide application.

This is more than an investment in buildings and machinery. It is an investment in the people and science behind Moldova’s vineyards and orchards—and in turning agricultural research into practical results for producers.

The work is part of the €18 million “Fruit Garden of Moldova” programme, initiated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and supported by the European Investment Bank. The programme will rehabilitate and equip 13 educational and research institutions across the country.

Stronger research. Better planting material. A more resilient future for Moldovan agriculture.

🚇 The largest infrastructure and urban development project currently underway in Europe is taking shape beneath Greater Paris.

The Grand Paris Express will reshape how millions of people move around the region, with 200 km of new lines and 68 new stations set to serve around 3 million passengers every day by 2031.

And we are continuing to back it.

Our Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle and Société des grands projets President Jean-Francois Monteils marked our latest €3 billion financing for Line 15 West, a 22-km stretch connecting 11 stations from Pont de Sèvres to Saint-Denis via La Défense business district.

Once complete, Line 15 will form a 75 km ring around Paris, making journeys between communities easier without having to pass through the centre of the capital.

With this latest financing, our support for the Grand Paris Express now totals €6.5 billion.

A war-damaged school in Kyiv oblast has reopened for the new academic year.

For the first time since March 2022, 119 students in Lukashi village are back in their local lyceum. Damaged during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the school has been transformed into a modern, accessible and energy-efficient learning environment, with upgraded infrastructure and a new protective shelter. The €1.07 million reconstruction was financed with €690,000 from the EIB and €385,000 from the local budget, through the EIB’s €340 million Ukraine Recovery Programme.

Across Kyiv oblast, we are supporting the restoration of 72 facilities under the Ukraine Recovery Programme, including schools, healthcare and municipal infrastructure. Rebuilding Ukraine means more than restoring buildings, it means restoring safe spaces, communities and opportunities for the next generation.

Partnerships grow through honest conversation, shared priorities and a determination to turn ambition into results.

At the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, EIB Global Director-General Andrew McDowell welcomed Mr Бямбацогт Сандаг Byambatsogt Sandag, Chairman of Mongolia’s State Great Khural, together with Members of Parliament, Ambassador Bold Luvsanvandan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Gombosuren Amartuvshin, Consul of Mongolia to Luxembourg Philippe Cahen, Consul of Luxembourg to Mongolia, Dashdavaa Hulan, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliament administrations.

The Chairman expressed his interest in reviewing the proposed EIB forestry and bioeconomy framework loan when it is ready for consideration by Parliament. This potential investment could support healthier forests and landscapes, greater climate resilience, sustainable rural livelihoods and new opportunities in Mongolia’s green economy.

The discussion also looked beyond financing. Chairman Byambatsogt invited EIB to share its perspectives on Mongolia’s new and revised laws concerning forests, water and protected natural areas—important foundations for protecting the country’s natural heritage while supporting sustainable development.
Renewable energy, sustainable transport, agriculture and SME financing also emerged as promising areas for future collaboration.
Behind every framework and investment are people, communities and places. By working together, Mongolia and the EIB can help turn long-term green ambitions into practical improvements for everyday life.

Let’s start with simple math:
New school year + EIB financing = modern classrooms, upgraded campuses, student accommodation, and research funding.

For us, back to school means investing in spaces where students can study, build practical skills, and prepare for what comes next.

What do these four places have in common?

From coastal cities to Alpine valleys, Europe is home to diverse landscapes, communities and economies.

But behind these four pictures is a common story: investment. EIB financing is supporting projects in:

🇦🇱 Northern Albania: €50m for sustainable development, connectivity and infrastructure
🇭🇷 Split, Croatia: €49m for urban development and investment in cities
🇮🇹 Puglia: €150m for a more sustainable and resilient region
🇮🇹 South Tyrol: €345m for sustainable energy and infrastructure
