Hon. Solomon Cheapoo Calls on President Boakai and Legislature to Act Following Major Drug Seizure
Hon. Solomon Cheapoo, Representative Aspirant for District 13, CEO of 91 Bravo Company, and recipient of the U.S. Department of Defense/U.S. Army Integrity Medal, is calling on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and members of the National Legislature to take decisive action following the reported seizure of narcotic drugs valued at approximately 19 million USD.
In a public statement, Cheapoo questioned the manner in which authorities are handling the case, particularly the continued use of the phrase “persons of interest” despite the scale of the drug consignment.
“After confiscating 19 million USD worth of narcotic drugs, you still say ‘persons of interest’? Who delivered it there?” he asked. “We know how quickly poor and vulnerable people are often named and prosecuted, so the public deserves clear answers in this matter.”
Cheapoo further alleged that corruption and compromise within certain law enforcement institutions have historically undermined Liberia’s fight against illicit drugs and organized crime.
According to him, a drug operation involving such a massive quantity and street value could not have been carried out without the involvement or protection of influential individuals or high-ranking operatives.
He therefore urged the Boakai administration and the Legislature to ensure a transparent investigation, publicly identify all individuals connected to the trafficking operation, and restore public confidence in the country’s justice and security institutions.
The statement comes amid increasing public concern over narcotics trafficking and growing calls for stronger accountability measures within Liberia’s law enforcement sector.
