The Ministry of Internal Affairs convened a Capacity Building Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming for Local Governance today, Wednesday, bringing together esteemed county officials, members of the County Council, and dedicated partners from Lofa, B**g, and Nimba.

Cecelia J. Gould, Director of the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit, emphasized that this training is guided by Liberia’s decentralization agenda, the Local Government Act (2018), and the National Gender Policy. Its primary objective is to enhance gender-responsive planning, budgeting, and service delivery at the county level. Participants will collaborate to develop county-specific gender mainstreaming action plans that align with national priorities, ultimately fostering inclusive governance and improving access to services for all community members—women, men, girls, and boys alike.

Liberia and Sierra Leone Validate Draft Agreements on Land and Maritime Borders

A three-day Joint Technical Committee meeting began today in Bo, focusing on the validation of draft framework agreements concerning the reaffirmation of the land boundary, the delimitation of the maritime boundary, and the enhancement of cross-border cooperation between Liberia and Sierra Leone. The session will take place from November 25 to November 27.

Technical experts from both countries are working together to finalize legal texts in accordance with international protocols and national laws. Once validated, these documents will be submitted to each country's authorities for signing at a later date.

The 17-member Liberian delegation is led by Hon. D. Emmanuel Wheinyue, chair of Liberia’s Technical Border Committee. He emphasized the importance of community involvement for the sustainable implementation of these agreements. Dr. Ahmed A. Sannoh from Sierra Leone expressed that the agreements could transform shared borders into "bridges of opportunity" for commerce and cultural exchange.

This meeting is part of the African Union Border Program and is sponsored by GIZ. It aims to establish the institutional framework necessary for peaceful and development-oriented border management.
