As part of its mandate, the Office of the Ombudsman recently undertook a nationwide Integrity Education and Awareness outreach on the National Code of Conduct and the Ombudsman's mandate. The outreach, which took place from August 11 to 19, covered B**g, Lofa, Grand Bassa, Rivercess, and Sinoe Counties, and the engagement was led by the Executive Director of the Office of the Ombudsman, Mr. Saa David K. Nyuma Jr.

The essence of this nationwide integrity education and awareness initiative was to enhance public understanding of the Office's mandate, the National Code of Conduct, and other related matters. The outreach also brought together participants from diverse sectors of the public sector, including but not limited to local authorities, law enforcement officers, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, youth and women's groups, among others.

Liberia’s Ombudsman and ActionAid Forge Partnership to Combat Sexual Harassment in the Public Sector

Monrovia, Liberia – August 20, 2026 – The Office of the Ombudsman and ActionAid Liberia have initiated a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening women's rights within the public sector, with a specific focus on eradicating sexual harassment.

The development follows a high-level meeting held yesterday, August 19, between the Chairperson-Designate of the Ombudsman’s Office, Atty. Etmonia Mueadeh Martin, and the Country Director of ActionAid Liberia, Madam Elizabeth Gbah-Johnson.

During the productive discussions, both female leaders jointly discussed conducting public awareness campaigns centered on key provisions of the National Code of Conduct for all Public Officials and Employees of the Republic of Liberia. The specific sections under review—Sections 1.3.24, 11.3, 11.5, 11.6, 11.7, and 11.8—address various aspects of sexual harassment, underscoring the commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and dignified work environment across government institutions.

The two entity heads resolved to combine their institutional expertise to advocate for stronger enforcement of these provisions and to empower women in the public sector. They emphasized that this partnership marks a significant step toward ensuring accountability and protecting the rights of all employees.

Further details regarding the scope and timeline of the awareness campaign will be announced in the coming weeks.

In a significant step toward institutional renewal, the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman- Liberia today engaged with the newly nominated Chairperson, Atty. Etmonia Mueadeh Martin, and Commissioner Sagie F Kamara Sr.

As a Member of the Cabinet's Communication Network, today, our Head of Communication, Mr. Francis KD Cooper, participated in a Strategic Communication session organized by the Cabinet Secretary. The session was convened to ensure that all Government Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions align on a unified communication messaging and strategy. Liberian Ombudsman Team Participates in Forensic Investigation Training in Namibia

Monrovia , Liberia, July 29, 2026– A delegation from the Office of the Ombudsman of Liberia, led by Commissioner Etmonia Mueadeh Martin, actively participated in a three-day capacity-building workshop in Windhoek, Namibia. The training, which ran from July 22 to July 24, 2026, was organized by the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC).

Held under the theme "Forensic Investigation and Digital Case Handling," the workshop brought together Ombudsmen, investigators, and governance experts from across the region. The primary objectives were to strengthen investigative capacities, enhance digital case management systems, and promote the use of technology in advancing accountability, good governance, and the protection of human rights.

Ombudsman Commissioner Attends Prestigious Stanford University Fellowship on Democracy and Development

Monrovia, Liberia, July 27, 2026: Commissioner of the Office of the Ombudsman, Cllr. Lamii Kpargoi, is participating in the prestigious Fisher Family Summer Fellows Program on Democracy and Development at Stanford University’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL).

The weeks-long fellowship brings together 26 accomplished practitioners from 19 countries who are working to advance democratic governance, strengthen legal institutions, and promote economic reform in their respective countries.

During the program, fellows engage in lectures, seminars, and collaborative discussions led by some of the United States’ leading academics and experts in democracy, governance, public policy, economic development, and the rule of law. The program provides participants with the opportunity to exchange experiences, examine emerging global challenges, and explore innovative approaches to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting accountable governance.

Cllr. Kpargoi’s participation reflects Liberia’s continued commitment to advancing good governance, integrity, and the rule of law through international learning and collaboration. The knowledge and professional networks gained through the fellowship are expected to further enhance ongoing efforts to strengthen public institutions and promote ethical leadership in Liberia.

The Fisher Family Summer Fellows Program is one of CDDRL’s flagship executive education initiatives, bringing together senior public officials, civil society leaders, legal practitioners, policymakers, and development professionals from around the world to examine practical solutions to contemporary governance and development challenges.

The event brought together public integrity institutions and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to strengthen collaboration and enhance the collective fight against corruption in Liberia.
