I was honored to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Association of Evangelicals of Liberia (AEL) during its Ministry & Development Partners Appreciation Dinner at Monrovia City Hall.

While I had the honor of receiving the certificate, the recognition is actually for the City of Monrovia and the work being done by the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to improve our city.

AEL President Bishop Dr. Robert S. M. Bimba also presented a light kit to support our sanitation workers and pledged the Association’s partnership in building a cleaner and greener Monrovia. He further called on the National Legislature to increase support for MCC, recognizing the significant resources required to keep the city clean.

I am deeply grateful for this recognition, but I dedicate it especially to the men and women of MCC who work day and night to keep our city clean. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf also commended the progress being made and encouraged communities to take responsibility for cleaning their surroundings, noting that when communities do their part, “the job is half done” when MCC intervenes.

I acknowledge that challenges remain, but with stronger partnerships and collective action, we can overcome them.

I therefore encourage other churches, institutions, businesses and community organizations to follow AEL’s example and join us in building a cleaner, greener and more transformed Monrovia.

This recognition belongs to the City. This work belongs to all of us.

I’m proud to stand here today at the official opening of Diaconia Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institution’s new office in Monrovia. This is more than a milestone for DMDI — it’s a meaningful step forward for financial inclusion and small business growth in our city.
As Mayor of Monrovia, I believe financial institutions have a responsibility that goes beyond lending. Yes, capital is essential, but so are financial education, proper bookkeeping, business coaching, and market linkages. When we support entrepreneurs with these tools, we don’t just reduce risk — we increase the chances of long-term success.
I’ve always said that strong micro and small businesses are the backbone of a resilient economy. They create jobs, drive innovation, and contribute to sustainable growth. That’s why I’m encouraging DMDI and other institutions to take a more holistic approach — one that helps entrepreneurs build not just businesses, but systems and connections that last.
This new office is a symbol of progress, and I commend DMDI for their continued commitment to our people. Let’s keep building a Monrovia where opportunity is within reach for all.

MCC AND ICA COMMUNITY RESTORE VITAL DRAINAGE AT 18TH STREET

Monrovia, Liberia | August 1, 2026

Today, the Monrovia City Corporation joined ICA Community leaders, youth, and residents for a major cleanup at the intersection of 18th Street and Coleman Avenue.

For years, plastic waste, vegetation, mud, and debris blocked the drainage, causing severe flooding, stagnant water, health risks, and major inconvenience for residents and businesses.

MCC provided cleaning tools, safety gear, trucks, a front-end loader, and a backhoe. Working together, sanitation teams and community volunteers removed the accumulated waste and reopened the drainage channel.

Water is now flowing, the streets are more accessible, and the community is cleaner and safer.

Residents celebrated the transformation and expressed gratitude to Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, MCC, and everyone who participated.

This is what true community partnership looks like. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Monrovia.

As part of this year’s Independence Day celebration, the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) proudly shared the spirit of Liberia’s 179th Independence with communities across Monrovia.

This year, we paid special tribute to Stockton Creek and Fiamah, the communities that host our waste transfer stations, while also reaching residents of Center Street, 14th, 15th, and 16th Streets through feeding programs and activities for children.

It was our way of saying thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping Monrovia clean. Seeing the smiles on the faces of our children and residents made the celebration even more meaningful.

Together, we celebrate our nation, our communities, and our shared commitment to a cleaner, stronger Monrovia.

Today, alongside the Mayor of Paynesville, Hon. Robert Bestman, and the Ministry of Public Works, we launched a major cleanup of the Japanese Freeway one of Liberia’s most important road corridors.

The exercise covers the entire freeway and includes clearing blocked drainages, cleaning sidewalks, removing illegally dumped waste, and addressing encroachments along the road reserve.

This road was a generous gift from the people of Japan. Keeping it clean is a shared responsibility. Every cleanup costs taxpayers time, fuel, equipment, and money, yet illegal dumping continues.

Let’s break that cycle. Please stop indiscriminate dumping, encourage others to do the same, and help protect our environment.

A clean City starts with all of us.

Monrovia Is Taking a Bold Step Toward a Cleaner City

I fully understand the growing concerns of our residents about waste management across Monrovia. Every day, I hear your frustrations, and I want to assure you that your City Government is not standing still. We are committed to delivering a sustainable, long-term solution not just temporary clean-up efforts.

Today, we reached an important milestone in that journey.

The Monrovia City Corporation officially engaged 30 Liberian-owned waste management companies to begin Phase One of our Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Solid Waste Management Framework.

I had the privilege of meeting with representatives of 11 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and 19 Community-Based Enterprises (CBEs) that will provide organized door-to-door waste collection services across Districts 7, 8, 9, and 16. By empowering Liberian businesses and community organizations, we are creating jobs while building a more reliable and sustainable sanitation system.

This marks a fundamental shift in how waste will be managed in our city. Government cannot do it alone. Lasting success requires strong partnerships with the private sector, communities, and every resident of Monrovia.

The Monrovia City Police, the Monrovia City Court, and other relevant institutions will work alongside us to ensure the effective implementation and enforcement of this new system.

On Monday, July 13, we will hold a public press briefing to announce the approved service fees, explain how the new system will operate, and outline the responsibilities of households, businesses, and institutions.

I ask for your patience, cooperation, and support as we implement these reforms. Together, we can end indiscriminate dumping, improve public health, protect our environment, and build The Monrovia We Want a cleaner, healthier, more resilient city for every resident.
