FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JOINT PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE UNITY PARTY NATIONAL CADETS’ UNIT (UPNACU) AND THE TERTIARY EDUCATION STUDENTS’ CONFEDERACY (TESCON)

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – JANUARY 31, 2026: The leaderships of the Unity Party National Cadets’ Unit (UPNACU) and the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON), the student wings of the ruling Unit Party, issue this joint communique to address and debunk the baseless and malicious allegations regarding the mammoth gathering of students and young people from different groupings at the postponed confirmation hearing of Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, Minister-designate for Youth and Sports, earlier scheduled on Friday, January 30, 2026.

We state categorically and without reservation that neither UPNACU nor TESCON received a single cent or any form of financial inducement from Atty. Kruah or anyone acting on her behalf to organize the turnout witnessed at the Capitol Building. Our assembly was a purely organic, self-initiated, and voluntary show of solidarity.

Atty. Kruah serves with distinction as the Vice Chair for Inter-Party and NEC Affairs of the governing Unity Party. Our presence was not "hired"; it was a celebration of our leader and a historic moment for youth inclusion in governance. We were there to support one of our own who has consistently championed the cause of students in our party and across Liberia.

We take serious exception to and frown upon those attempting to make mass gathering at confirmation hearing look like a criminal act. It is deeply concerning that when young people organize to peacefully support a peer, it is labelled as a "crime" or a "paid event," yet similar turnouts for older politicians are hailed as "grassroots support."

We believe these allegations are the desperate gasps of certain "old hands" and status-quo gatekeepers who are angry and threatened by the fact that young people are finally taking over the Ministry of Youth and Sports—the only ministry specifically designated to serve our interests. The era of youth being used merely as political tools is over; we are now the leaders we have been waiting for.

We will not be intimated by the status-quo as we can assure the public that we will double the number you saw on Friday at the next confirmation hearing. We’ll negotiate with our principals and various presidents to allow more students to assemble.

We respectfully urge the Honourable Liberian Senate and the Committee on Youth and Sports not to give an iota of credence to these fabricated stories of "sponsored trucking." These distractions are designed to stall the momentum of a highly qualified nominee.

We pray the Senate to proceed with the confirmation process in accordance with the law, focusing on the competence and vision of Atty. Kruah. The Senate must not allow the noise of those intimidated by generational change to interrupt the constitutional process.

To those spreading disinformation, we ask you to desist. Your propaganda cannot dampen the spirit of the Liberian students and the youth. We remain resolute in our support and look forward to the successful confirmation of Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, Minister-designate of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Republic of Liberia.

Jointly done on this 31st Day of January 2026 by the Unity Party National Cadets’ Unit (UPNACU) and the Tertiary Education Student Confederacy (TESCON).

Joint Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – January 29, 2026: The Unity Party National Cadets' Unit (UPNACU) and the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) issue this joint call to action to all members, student leaders, and the youthful population of Liberia.

Tomorrow, Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM, the Minister-designate of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, will appear before the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports for her confirmation hearing. As the youngest nominee in the history of this Ministry at age 35, Atty. Kruah’s appointment represents a historic generational shift and the direct inclusion of youth in national governance.

The UPNACU and the TESCON hereby urge members to gather at the Capitol Building tomorrow by 1:00 PM to stand in firm solidarity with Atty. Kruah as she presents her vision for youth empowerment and sports development.

We recognize Atty. Kruah’s distinguished background as a public servant and legal professional, and we believe her leadership will bring renewed energy and professionalism to the sector.

We respectfully urge the Honourable Liberian Senate to see this nomination as a win for the young people of Liberia and to proceed with a swift confirmation to ensure the Ministry’s vital work continues without delay.

Let us assemble in peace and unity to witness this historic milestone for our generation.
