When a society embraces women leadership, everything thrives. My philosophy on women empowerment has been simple... akin to a person who chooses to use only one limb. In time, the 'redundant' limb develops atrophy and affects the overall strain on the body. When women can not occupy space to contribute, they lose sense of being useful, but also, it is all of society that loses the huge impact of women's invaluable contribution to a thriving society.
I joined the Liberia Women's Legislative Caucus under the leadership of Pro Tempore Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence as they launched their 5-year strategic plan. We see in these women, purpose and vision to use their office to empower even more women. Liberia has been a pacesetter as the first African country to democratically elect a female president. The resilience of Liberian women is phenomenal despite the daily hurdles they face, much like many women. In crossing each hurdle, they are further strengthened, emboldened, and empowered. I joined the Women's Legislative Caucus at the launch and had the honor of sharing my thoughts. We, as women, must be intentional about raising and nurturing young men who believe in women as equal partners with each gender utilizing their unique gifts and strength to do good in all spheres of life! Also at the event was the UN Resident Coordinator, and the UN Women Country Representative.

The ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority recently held its Advocacy and Sensitization meetings on Competition and Consumer Protection Laws in Monrovia, Liberia. These meetings aim to formulate and enhance policies and laws that will strengthen competition at both the national and regional levels within the ECOWAS community.

During the meeting, I emphasized the significance of these efforts, stating, “Competition policies and laws foster an equitable environment, deepening regional trade integration for the ECOWAS community. By implementing robust frameworks, we ensure fair competition, which is crucial for economic growth and development across all member states.”

The sight of Liberians boarding a bus to return to their homeland, greeted with heartfelt cheers and farewells from Ghanaians, is a poignant reminder of the enduring bond between these two nations. The Liberian Civil War, which began in 1989, forced many Liberians to seek refuge in neighboring countries, including Ghana. For years, Ghana provided a safe haven for those fleeing the horrors of war, demonstrating immense compassion and solidarity.

Throughout the years of displacement, Liberians found not just refuge but also a second home in Ghana. The shared experiences, cultural exchanges, and mutual support forged a strong and lasting relationship between the people of these two West African nations. This bond is exemplified by the warmth and celebration seen as Liberians embark on their journey back to rebuild their lives in their homeland.

This moment reflects the resilience and enduring spirit of the Liberian people and the generosity and empathy of Ghanaians. It underscores the importance of regional solidarity and the humanitarian values upheld by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which continues to strive for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.

As these Liberians return home, they carry with them memories of Ghanaian hospitality and friendship, a testament to the deep-rooted connections that transcend borders and conflicts. This chapter in the shared history of Ghana and Liberia will be remembered as a symbol of hope, unity, and the unbreakable human spirit.

It was a pleasure to pay a courtesy call on Vice President Jeremiah Kpang Koung of Liberia this afternoon. Our conversations centred on strengthening ECOWAS - Liberia ties and the immense potential Liberia has to offer in the Agicutural sector.

The VP was gracious to express his desire to work with ECOWAS in accelerating Liberia's development given the vast natural resources through equitable partnerships and leveraging on the youth demographic of Liberia.

Liberia has such potential and I look forward to the current administration formulating sound policies with concrete implementation for Liberians' collective benefit of its vast resources.

Great engagement with the Hon. Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate. We spoke on several issues from adequate funding for security agencies, substance abuse in Liberia, the speedy enactment of the legislation that supports the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) and ECOWAS commitment to accompany Liberia in its Socio economic development and democratic gains. Of course as a woman leader, the conversation on women empowerment through positive role modeling amongst others was an opportunity not to miss. Wishing Hon. Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence every success in her new role.

I had the honor of paying a courtesy call on His Excellency, Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia. I was accompanied by staff of the Resident Representation diplomatic mission and ECOWAS Radio. During our meeting, I also had the honor to decorate him with an ECOWAS pin. Our discussions centered around his vision for Liberia and its convergence with some of the work ECOWAS is involved in Liberia. His ARREST agenda (Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism) ties into the vision of ECOWAS - An ECOWAS of the people, Shared Prosperity).

He envisions a journey of poverty alleviation, self-sufficiency, holistic education, civic values, active citizenship undergirded by the rule of law in a peaceful country. He also believes in working to ensure that Liberia's foreign relations lead to a more prominent role in shaping international politics. Liberia actually played a pivotal role in the founding of the OAU, now AU, as well as shaping ECOWAS as an effective regional bloc.

His audacious agenda requires a government administration that works with urgency made up of individuals submerged in service to Liberia. After Liberia's last elections in October 2023, its democratic credentials have seen a quantum leap. I believe that with steadfast pursuit of this vision, Liberia has a bright future. I'm proud to have been a part of the electoral process working in my current capacity.

I look forward to an exciting era ahead for this 200-year-old republic as I work to complement national efforts. Long live Mama Liberia. Additionally, I got to experience his sense of humor when he shared a joke on the rural-urban drift, saying people did not understand that COAST stood for 'come over and see trouble." That cracked me up. 🤣🤣
