Buchanan, Grand Bassa County-A delegation from the Liberian Senate Health Committee headed by Senator Dabah Mabande Varpilah has visited Grand Bassa County as part of efforts to assess challenges affecting the delivery of healthcare services and identify areas requiring legislative and administrative attention.

The delegation held discussions with Grand Bassa County Superintendent Hon. Karyou Johnson and representatives of the County Health Team at the County Administrative Building in Buchanan.

The meeting focused on key challenges confronting the countyโ€™s health sector, particularly staffing gaps and the need to strengthen the availability of essential health services across the county.

Among the concerns raised was the need for volunteer health workers who are currently supporting healthcare delivery to be considered for placement on the Government of Liberiaโ€™s payroll.

Participants noted that addressing the staffing shortage would help strengthen healthcare services and improve access for residents, particularly in underserved communities.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the Senate Health Committee to hear directly from county health authorities about existing challenges and the support needed to improve the overall health system in Grand Bassa.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured several health facilities in Buchanan including the Liberia Government Hospital, County Drugs Deport, and Doctor's Quarters with the objective to observe conditions on the ground and gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing healthcare workers and patients.

The visit is intended to provide the Senate Health Committee with information that can inform ongoing discussions and interventions aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, addressing human-resource gaps, and improving essential health services for the people of Grand Bassa County.

Grand Bassa County Superintendent Hon. Karyou Johnson and health authorities expressed the importance of continued collaboration between the national government, the Legislature, and county-level stakeholders in addressing the health needs of residents.

Those in attendance include Hon. Thomas Yaya Nimely, Hon. Numene T. H. Bartekwa, Hon. Wellington Geevon, Hon. Johnny Kpehe, Hon. Botoe Kanneh among others.
