The Buddhist monks on their 2,300-mile Walk for Peace choose to walk barefoot as a powerful, intentional practice. Some monks embrace this tradition fully, feeling every step on the earth as a way to stay deeply present, humble, and connected to all living things. By going barefoot, they let go of separation and ego, experiencing both comfort and discomfort with mindfulness and grace, reminding us that true peace comes from being open and grounded.
Their faithful companion, Aloka the Peace Dog, walks beside them (with shoes when needed!), adding joy and lightness to the journey. Now approaching Charlotte, North Carolina, the group has already touched countless hearts in South Carolina with their gentle presence and message of compassion. Over 77 days into their 120-day walk, they continue to show that kindness can bridge any divide.
